maybe a Scott bike or Norco.... its better to buy a pro bike at the beginning because wit time you will get better and than (that's if you buy a beginner bike) you will need the pro one) if you buy the pro at the start you will not need to change it later

it all really depends on your price range. you'll find really good beginner/intermediate bikes for $400-$700. my friend that i just got into mtb'in just bought a 2008 Trek 4500 with disc brakes for $550 and it rides AMAZING! you definitely wanna stick with the main brands (trek, cannondale, specialized). good luck bro! see you on the trails!
