I found out what the problem is. Brawl is a double layered disc and after a long time your wii gets dust in the lens disc reader thing which makes it harder to read big discs like brawl. I just have to get a wii lens cleaner and hopefully that will work. If not I don't know what to do. I have already updated my wii.
Well I can understand your frustration with Brawl not working on your Wii but just think of it this way, Brawl sucks. Super Smash Bros was amazing on Nintendo 64 but it completely changes on the Wii.
And for the money, like people above (or below) have stated, they have to give you a new CD and try to play that Brawl on a friend's Wii, and try to play another Brawl from a friend onto yours.
Well, not only is it complete nonsense that they won't give you a new Brawl... it's against the law. You could try using a different Wii (maybe you know someone else who has one, too). If it has the same problem there, the disc is damaged.
If that's the case, the store HAS to refund it or replace it with a working copy. You can prove you didn't do anything wrong with it (no scratches on the disc). I work in the software business and I know a thing or two about warranty :-).
Well what they told me was that they could give me a new copy but they couldn't give me money back. Ironically there were no copies left. I just want my money back because I don't think my Wii will read any Brawl discs. Do you have any idea why? It's just Brawl. No other game. I can't figure it out. It's very annoying.
Oh, if they are going to replace the game, that's acceptable and the proper way to resolve it. You see... the problem is that this particular disc wasn't printed right. It happens from time to time and I've fixed many such a problem by just sending a new disc. If there actually was a problem with the software that prevents ANY copy of Brawl to be playable on your Wii (which is quite impossible), it would not show as a read failure but as an error during playing.
Well, I tried it in my friends Wii and it worked. In fact my old Brawl that didn't work in my Wii worked in his Wii. It's like when I put a Brawl disc in it won't try to load it. You know when you put a game in how it makes the noise like it's reading the disc. Well when I put brawl in it just makes a noise like it's putting the disc in the drive but it doesn't spin in it to read it. And I have tried 3 different versions of Brawl and every one of them work fine in my friends Wii.
And that is wat i think!
i love it!!

Have you updated the system data? Also If it's less then a year old, I think Nintendo will fix it for free.

Fix it the American way: Hammer punch the Wii!
This ancient technique works on my old dvd player.
