  • One of the best monologs ever.

  • I've only just now heard this monologue. Last night I was watching a documentary about American film in the 20th century, and this clip was in it. Christ, what an effect these words have had on me- I haven't been able to get them out of my mind. They give one the feeling of having your heart and guts torn out and then trampled on in front of you.

  • Seriously I think Scorsese took some inspiration of this film for Travis Bickle besides John Wayne's Ethan in The Searchers.

  • Joseph Cotten was so amazing!

  • Cotten would do justice to the role of a Dostoevskian anti-hero. What a delicious portrayal of malcontent.

  • ASTOUNDING!!! Perfect portrayal of an intelligent psychopathic serial killer

  • I cannot believe that Joseph Cotten didn't win an Oscar for this role. He wasn't even nominated, was he? Shameful.

  • I think Uncle Charlie was related to Travis Bickle. Cotten is just SO scary and cynical in this one!

  • I love that quote, and the way he says it is beyond beautifull.

  • God, I love Joseph Cotten. He's so oily, it's glorious.

  • I just finished watching this on DVD. Mine has awful picture quality, everything's too bright and hard to see anything.

Thank you for uploading this scene!

    :D

  • This is the movie that should've been called Disturbia. Joseph Cotten is always great. Thanks for the post.
