John, you gave me the goosebumps!! You treat that organ like an old friend that you know so well! (you prob do) Thanx for sharing your gift that God has provided you with. God Bless, From Wisc
J'adhère complètement ! tant pour le style, la musicalité, la registration que le toucher ! Avec cet orgue "anglicisant" John Scott a très bien rendu l'esprit de Guilmant.
It doesn't get much better than this playing wise! Thee sound of this piece on John's cd from St Paul's (with the Gigout Grand Choeur and Liszt Ad nos) is wonderful. He really knew how to make the St Paul's organ sing. The left hand notes between 4' 24" - 4' 28" aren't in my copy - is this a different edition does anyone know?
It is quite rare to have a man so gracious and humble...but also a musical genius. Not only is he a wonderful musician and choirmaster, he is a wonderful person. We could not ask for a finer man at St. T or anywhere! -You're the best Uncle John!- :)
Joe, Thank you so much for these videos! I attend St. Thomas and see and hear John every Sunday. Sitting in the pew I never get to see him as he plays. Thank you so much for your two videos. I hope there will be more coming , and maybe even some DVD's. Isn't he just a musical gift from Heaven!
You know Joe, there a lot of us who would be happy to send you our money if you put together DVD's of performers such as this!! - You should also consider submitting these to the "Arts Channel" on cable. These are without a doubt some of the most remarkable videos of organists which have ever been made!!
It's called "Classic Arts Showcase" and it's on cable systems all over the world. I can't post a link, but they do have a website if you use "teh google". They run some of the Joy of Music vids, but yours are FAR better.
On cable tv - Google "arts channel" - I can't post a link here. They run Diane Bish and those old Virgil Fox kalidescope vids - These would be superb on there. They have literally 500 channels around the country - I get 2 here in Washington State. We need to get you more cameras too. This is the best of your vids for technical observation. TM playing the Schumann is next IMHO. You should be in Cleveland recording everyone who performs at OHS on their venue instruments!!!!!.
What a wonderful video--probably the best You Tube organ video I can recall! And what fantastic playing! I'm sure I've never heard such a clean, precise performace of this music--but with all the passion and excitement is piece requires. This is great work, Joe; keep it up! And of course I'll keep buying JAV CDs. How about one of him playing Guilmant??
And it's also great to revel in the Aeolian-Skinner sound.
Magnificent, passionate performance, John, and great recording technique, Joe. I am one of those who surf YouTube to glean lessons from the masters. I also have several JAV organ CDs that are impeccable - worth every penny. I hope I get another for Fathers day!
The same comment as in the A-minor by Bach: brilliantly played by one of the greatest English organists of our time. Hope he will come to the Netherlands soon to play upon our historic instruments.
Very nice indeed Joe! Organ & player alike seem very well suited to French repertoire. The videography is simple yet effective, and microphone placement sounds spot-on. Did you have several cameras, or did you do multiple takes to get the various angles? Oh, and can we hope to hear Mr. Scott on this organ in CD/SACD format in the near future?
Nice work, as usual, Joe. Now if you could just edit in some visuals of the magnificent building in which this organ is located ;-) I use Windows Movie Maker for my stuff, but my teenage daughter swears by Sony Vegas Movie Studio.
Better camera??? Holy cow! This one looks pretty good to me. :-)
