  • Wow, I can't believe you have a 5 part video series for changing the frigging oil on your motorcycle. And you didn't even do the whole job! You just drained the oil and filled it up with new fluid. No filter, no filter o-rings, nothing. Wow man. Just... wow.

  • I have an 04 does the year matter? Please let me know..Thanks!

  • Very Good Video. Nicely, intelligently presented. Easily understood. Many thanks, Doug.

  • Tighty righty wtf wheres this guy from mars lol

  • This is a terrible video. You must change the oil filter at the same time as the oil. Think about it, dirty filter and dirty oil. Drain and replace oil with a dirty filter and you make your new oil dirty straight away.

First rule of oil change which applies to anything with oil, car, bike, generator, whatever, oil and filter changed at the same time. You also need to do it warm because otherwise the oil won't drain.

  • You should have it on its center stand.

  • Great Video man! Thanks alot, btw how often should the oil and oil filter be changed?

  • Comment removed

  • it's righty tighty..not tighty righty

  • Less talk more action

  • I agree, otherwise it's a great tutorial

  • good video man.

    good job!!!!!1

    well done.

tomorrow i'll change my friend's oil.

    thank's for the help.

  • hey when u change filter wheres the small o ring thing go i keep leaving it out becuase i cant find where it goes.

  • it goes on the oil strainer bolt.

  • i gotta question about measuring the oil level. all i can see is a black circle. how do u judge when it is a good time to change it, and how do u read the oil level ? should i see only black?.........

  • if you didnt get a response

if you look and all you see is black

oh oh its way past time to change oil

    you dont want black oil

take out dip stick and feel it with fingers and look at it

if its not clear like new oil or feels gritty

change it or look at your owners manual

  • Yeah yeah it's 5 months ago but maybe you never learned like I did.

Get your bike on the center stand on **Level** ground. If the circle where you view your oil is still ALL black that means it's over filled with oil. This would make your oil light go on and could possibly blow a gasket or something worse. If you look next to the circle you should see 2 lines. One upper,One lower.Make sure the oil level ( Black line ) is IN BETWEEN those two.Doesn't have to be perfect but in between.Hope it helped

  • u should've gotten motul motorcycle oil but good vid

  • thanks alot very clear and persise! but what about oil filter!???

  • r u gonna make a vid on how to change oil filter?

  • 20 bucks is a great deal! Next time im checking out eBay first. Live and Learn i guess!

  • Mine was under $20 with a large hard case at Advance Auto Parts. $19.88 with in-store lifetime warranty to be specific.

    Brand: Powerbuilt

Product: 1/2" DR. Needle Type Torque Wrench

    Model #: 944050 (Kit 68)

    UPC: 0 28907 27858 2

A coworker works at Autozone and told me that they cost about $20 there too.

  • you have inspired me to change my own oil on my 250 and save some money on the way

,but im wondering if i need a special torque wrench for a motorcycle or a normal one

    thnx

  • just a normal one. Remember that a torque wrench will have range of torque settings. Make sure the amount of torque you need falls closer to the middle of the range than the outer parts of the range. I hear that the outer parts of the range are less accurate.

  • good job man me sirbio mucho tu explicacion

  • mucho gracias!

  • thanx mane, your video was reassuring that i wasn't gonna fkup my new bike

  • good/ entertaining review!

lol when he was spinning the wrench by the socket i could see the handle flying off and hitting something

  • pretty damn good video but omg haha " see that sucker... its all hanging out" i couldnt help but laugh

  • Lol "death star looking thing"

  • I LOLed at that too.

  • I want some of what this guy's smokin'.

  • lol it just might be exhaust fumes lol

  • Thanks man! For a beginner, that was great. I just changed the oil on my Ninja and referred to your video a couple of times. I truly appreciate it.

  • wow good job! I cant beleive you broke that loose with one hand, I have to use two hands with a five foot breaker bar. Maybe I am tightening it too much.

  • omfg

  • Be sure not to strip the threads in the drain plug bolt or casing. As shown in the video, it did not take a lot of force to tighten the drain plug bolt. Borrow a torque wrench next time.

  • Hi...thanks for the instruction. Do you know how to change the spark plug on this bike?

  • good rule of thumb, let it sit for 4hrs before you change the oil. It will help you while your taking the bolts off & some of the old oil is still sinking through the engine when you change it... The filter is pretty easy, if you take off the filtercover youll see what I mean. 1 question though, do you know how to change out the air cleaner filter? Great Video!!!

  • Danmm Good job Rob for putting all the videos up.

  • your welcome.

  • Awesome videos Rob. Way to look out for us noobs! I've been wondering this same thing and accidentally stumbled upon these. Keep it up.

  • Thank you , glad you liked them.

  • Way too much detail for a simple oil change. But i guess some people need all the help you can get, would be nice to have a 1 part vid that shows the full operation instead of 5 parts.

  • Its directed to people who have never changed their oil in anything before. Its to demonstrate how easy it is to do for a complete newbie. After you have experience doing oil changes, i agree, this video will seem WAY TOO detailed.

  • Thanks it's like $40 for me to change the oil(Changed it once so far), so essentially I could save money after the second oil change....$40 Wrench+ Oil, then eventually just pay for oil. Now to save money on lubing that chain :D

  • I saw your comments on a bunch of other videos WAY too much and you sounded WAY to proud of this "oil change" video, so I HAD to come see what all the hype was about. Oddly enough, I now know how to change the oil on my 250, which I hadn't learned yet, so good work. But I must admit that commenting on so many videos about it was a little annoying. Just say'n. But again... like I said, I know how now... so I guess.. um... thanks? Rock on.

  • good call on the 10qt tank- solid thinking there. how much you want for that light?

  • Nice vid. I've only changed the oil once on my 250 and I didn't do the oil filter change. Looking forward to that series!

  • I think ill be changing the filter and cleaning out the oil screen very soon.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • nice vid!!!

  • thanks! I appreciate the comment. :)

  • Also, I was told that if i took off the filler cap (the cap where I fill in the oil), it will drain faster. makes sense.

I did not change the filter, because i didnt know how at the time. I understand its not a complete oil change, since the filter holds about a 1/2 quart of oil. Ill do that next time, as well as cleaning the screen.

Please comment or email me, if i did anything wrong, or could have done better.

    Thanks!

  • I was a bit inconsistent when describing the direction to turn the rachet to tighten or loosen a bolt. If looking at the head of the bolt, LOOSEN=COUNTER-CLOCKWISE, TIGHTEN=CLOCKWISE.

Also i was told that if the bike was on its centerstand, the oil would not dribble on the faring, like it did in the video.

  • RIGHTY TIGHTY - LEFTY LOOSEY!! =P My favorite way to remember, but i'm kind of a tard.
