Jacques Brel wrote in French and Flemish - meaning unstandard dialects of the Dutch language. I read pleanty of translations ... guess it didn't come off... she has lost someone on war and is torn between love of her homeland and hatred of the war that took her lover.
Needs to work on her French pronunciation (badly), but still a lot of feeling in her voice. I have little formal vocal education, but I know what I like, and I love her voice. She not emballished, it's like she's talking to the audience (a good thing!!).
