  • Not a bad job at all. Dutch is not easy to speak let alone sing!

  • I speak Dutch and i can her understand very good. Melissa is great!!! I say it again: it must be very difficult to sing this...It's very good.

    My congraculations!!!!

There's one correction: Brel doesn't sing about the war he sings about a girl he loves enter the towers of Gent en Brugge. (I hope you can understand my english a little bit)

When you want, i can write the whole text in Dutch.

  • Long time Brel fan here... well done! Very difficult material and you put a nice -- and uniquely American theater style -- personal stamp on it. ::thumbs up::

  • I've always loved the Elly Stone version of this song...but your performance sent a chill down my soul...beautiful, absolutely beautiful...

  • shows how much I know. I'm just a huge fan of the original Jaques Brel production, I have the CD, and it didn't sound like Elly Stone...of course she may have been the one who was off! Rock on, cherie!

  • i love jacques brel! You are a very good performer :)

  • congratulations, it must be very difficult to sing Dutch&english together when you speak english...

  • Thank you, it means a lot to hear from someone who loves Brel!

  • I think that it is actually Dutch. My research tells me that it is Dutch. Nice voice, but it doesn't seem like you really know what you are singing about.

  • Jacques Brel wrote in French and Flemish - meaning unstandard dialects of the Dutch language. I read pleanty of translations ... guess it didn't come off... she has lost someone on war and is torn between love of her homeland and hatred of the war that took her lover.

  • Needs to work on her French pronunciation (badly), but still a lot of feeling in her voice. I have little formal vocal education, but I know what I like, and I love her voice. She not emballished, it's like she's talking to the audience (a good thing!!).

  • Cette fille chante en néerlandais et elle ne chante pas en français. Et le néerlandais est un langue très difficile.

This girl sings in Dutch and not in french: it's very difficult to sing in Duthc.

Dit meisje zingt in het nederlands en niet in het frans: Nederlands is geen gemakkelijke taal en het is gemakkelijk kritiek te geven. als je zelf het verschil niet kent.
