The other side of Teddy's love of nature wasn't as bright. After his childhood friend turned him down after he proposed to her, Teddy reportedly went on a long camping trip westward. Apparently during his riding, he went on a bloody rampage and shot nearly every living thing he saw.
@OldWorldAmerican It wasn't so much as a bloody rampage as it was a really long hunting trip. He just wanted to get away from people while he mourned the death of his mother and wife (both died on the same day February 14th)
I liked Teddy Roosevelt, and even thought he was a badass, until I read A People's History Of The United States and began to study his military career and political actions and their effects on the territories the US occupied. He was a sociopathic racist scumbag who advocated war and ignored war crimes which were just as horrific as those committed by Nazi Germany or anyother imperialist empire.
@PELLOWHEAD Most people in history have a side that by today's standards would be considered evil. Try to put it into the context of the time that he lived. Things were a lot more "wild" back then.
@thehoaxbuster But were they tied to a tree. The point of the clip isn't that he didn't hunt animals, it's that he wouldn't hunt animals that were tied to trees. I know in today's world a lot of people view hunting as barbaric but back then the attitude toward hunting was a lot different.
Preach it puppet! That's a pretty famous cartoon, in fact the cartoon made the bear incident famous, but it wasn't a cub, it was a large 600-pound bear. Teddy not only said no, he ripped the hunting guide pretty hard for that.

TR shot a lot of endangered animals.

@spinemelter2000 Is there documented proof of this? Were they endangered then or are these animals that are endangered now.
