  • me gusto el video esta muy didactico

  • cool tutorial! thnk u very much!

    (///_-')

  • I've heard that razor cuts cause split ends and damaged hair, and only scissors give nice control of the hair. is this true? thanks

  • @BocaNejra Improperly used razoring can cause split ends, yes....but so can a scissor cut. The biggest contributor to split ends is lack of proper hair maintenance. You don't have to "let your hair grow"... it does that anyway. But a healthy 1/4 to 1/2 inch trim every 6-8 weeks will still allow the hair to grow without allowing the dried out ends to split up the shaft. You can break off more than I can trim off.

  • Good video. Would have been nice to see a completely finished photo in the beginning so that viewers can reflect what specifics cuts will look like in the end.

  • Thank You! That is a great idea! I Will do that on future clips.

  • Sei a terra!!!

  • where you located

  • 20 minutes north of Boston, in the shore city of Beverly Massachusetts

  • Thanks.

  • Would it look good if I got only the back of my hair razored? (I have very thick and straight hair.) Or should I just get everything razored?

  • Razoring produces a texture and moldability that scissor cutting can not. If the style you are looking for has texture only in the back, then just razor the back. In this video I used a razor all over to produce whispy ends all over the hair design. I've done this same haircut with just scissors and it comes out looking completely different.

  • oops...I just noticed that you have a Wella Color Video theory lesson. Does that mean that you only use the Inspire line, from now on?

  • I did until it was discontinued (DRAT!) I still have about 125 tubes of creme base and 15 botles of pigment that I stretch out as much as I can. I also have Wella Koleston and ColorTouch to fall back on, when I'm completely out of inspire. Then I may have to switch to Logics.

  • Hi,

I spoke with Sunshine, today, and indeed she was very helpful and answered all my 1001 questions that I had for her. She told me that they teach the Framesi and Schwarzkopf colors. Do you use these colors at your cozy salon? How different are these colors than Provonia (spell??) and L'Oreal Prof. line (Eric Fisher uses these)? What are your thoughts on color.

  • 1. I'm disturbed that you were not contacted in a timely manner.

    2. GW teaches basic protocols, state heigene, buisness procedure and their own cutting pilosophy which as I said before is similar to VS & JD.based on 6 classic shapes. On this you form a foundation, and combine techniques to create ypur own original shape.

    3. I taugh Product Knowledge, the 6 classic cuts, Advanced Cutting techniques, and new design releases to working stylists in Grahm Webb Salons

  • (SORRY, ran out of room in the last comment)

    4. Ethnic hair is an education unto itself. To learn it properly, I recommend you find a school JUST for that. You will need ALL 1500 hours to learn its intricasies.

  • Thanks for your input. I left a message for Sunshine, the admin director at Graham Webb, on THURSDAY...and, she still hasn't called me back even though her voicemail says that she works Tuesday thru Saturday. This is making me a lil weary.

What does Graham Webb teach? Do they follow the Pivot Point, Milady or their own style? What did YOU teach there? And, why did you leave? Do they teach you how to work on ethnic hair, too? Do they give you an African-head manniquin (they do at Eric Fisher)?

  • My next question entails which school would you go to if you were starting over, again? Your choice is Eric Fisher Academy. He has won a NAHA award as a master stylist, and one of his students just won this years Student Award at NAHA; and at his school he teaches the Vidal Sassoon ABC cuts and color.

The other option is: would you to the Graham Webb Academy?

Where would you go? Both offer a 1,500 clock-hour course and both claim to train you for more than just state-boards.

  • ummm that's a hard one. Both sound like great schools with great backgrounds and I must admit, having taught for Graham Webb, I'm a little biased.

I think if I had it to do over again, I would appraoch the job placement officer of each of the schools and find out where they have placed previous students after graduation. The one with the longest list of great salons would win.

  • BTW good luck with your new career

  • Thank you.

  • you are using the Vidal Sassoon language....did you take any of their courses?

  • yes I have ...plus courses from John Delaria and Graham Webb. All three have very similar philosophies.

  • Keep up the great posts

  • I was just looking at how to do razor cuts (I don't cut hair) and found YOU! Now I'm checking out all of your stuff - It's mesmerizing to watch someone cut hair that truly knows their stuff and treats it as an art. Wish I could get my hair cut by you:( Great hairdressers are a GEM.

  • Um, can i ask a question..

Im actually going for an emo hair style

I have wavy hair,, every 2mos my hair gets too thick i dont know how to make it an emo hair..

Help..... I dont know what parts of my hair should i razor cut,.... help plsss..

  • The "emo" hair I see is flat to the head and shattered along both the interior and perimeter. (Adam Lambert-ish). I'd razor (thin-out) along the ends of the hair. You will probably need to straighten the hair too, to eliminate the "body" or fullness you are getting from your wavy hair. The straightening and application of some kind of silicone-like styling product will keep the hair frizzie free and make it move and slide easier.

  • Does your razor have a gaurd on it? Also, how often do you change your blade?

  • No, I never use a guard, but I live in Massachusetts. In some other states (Conn. comes to mind) The use of a razor without a guard is illegal.

As far as blade changes, I use a new blade for every haircut.

  • yeah, i got a question. well you see, my hair is not thick but not thin at all either. its also wavy but straightens out decently with the ironer. its currently right over my eyebrow and i was thinking of having it razor cut tomorow. or well, mainly the tips or something to make it seem softer and easier to move around and style. would this be a good idea?

also, where are you guys located? are you anywhere near Florida, Miami? Or you know anyone near who is good with razor cutting hair?

  • I mailed an address to you for a myspace page that belongs to one of the best stylists in Florida. She'll take care of you.

  • great vid HairCam... not only is it informative and a great teaching tool but it can double as a relaxation aid too...i have viewed over 750,000 vids and this is one of the ones i chose (parts 2-3-4 as well) to add to my "relaxing array" playlist for people with insomnia.

  • @jedirifleman oh good, i'm not the only one, haha!

  • @jedirifleman omg dude I got your playlist bookmarked! Watch it every night as I go to sleep! Thanks and great job!

  • lol i want to have my hair cut by you, my hairdresser sux i bet he never herd of a razor....but i do have difficult hair...

  • It was so refreshing to watch something that isn't a gimmick - delivered so precisely, by such an EXCELLENT educator. Kudos to the camera person as well, so many vids fall down with poor camera quality and shots.

I also loved the cozy salon feel, with the radio playing in the background.

I'd love to work with someone like this!
