I live in Indiana. I don't think they help the homeless much here because the homeless just sit on a bench near the canal that runs through the city. Yesterday, I saw two of them just sitting on a bench and sleeping.
I was homeless for 6 months. Homeless people have been labeled with such a BAD stereotype. They aren't all "crazy" or criminals. The majority of them are just an average person who is homeless because of circumstance beyond their control. Nothing to be afraid of.
I agree, too many stereotypes out there, they are people like you and me. There's too wide a barrier let's bridge the gap and lend a hand. We can each make a difference one person at a time.

I was downtown here in my city and I saw a homeless guy but I was too scared to approach him. I was going to give him a dollar but I chickened out.
