You're premise that higher prices will force energy companies to invest other energies is quite silly. The higher the prices, the more money they get, the more money they get, the more incentive they have to continue producing the oil that is making them all the money.
You mean to say that ordinary Americans will be fed up with the high prices and force companies to invest in alternatives. So you advocate punishing ordinary citizens to get them to rise in revolt and make change happen?
