Can u please help me out in installing Leopard in the late 2006 Imac. After starting the installing dvd my system is not displaying Macintosh HD in start up disk and after reading in Mac forum. I have partition my HD in GUID partition format but still its not showing HD in start up disk.Mac forum says that i can install leopard even if i have 667 Mhz speed with the help of Leopard assist software. but when i am installing its saying YOUR SYSTEM IS INTEL BASED. IT DOES NOT REQUIRE LEOPARD ASSIST.
i have a mac 17in with the same specs, how you did the upgrade? i looked for software snow leopard, and to install it requires to have the leopard 10.5 installed first.
@javdel160660To comply with the licence agreement for Snow Leopard, Tiger uses must purchase the Mac Box Set, which includes iLife '11 and iWork '09. Apple does not sell this box set anymore, so you may have to use eBay or something similar.
@javdel160660 its a lie. you just clean install it. get the 30 dollar disc and boot your compuer from your disc. then install. you loose everything on the hard drive but you have snow leopard. so back everything up
I have a PowerPC-G5 2GHz which looks exactly like your computer (without the built in camera) and i have no idea whether or not its intel, but ive done research and many sites are saying i cant upgrade to snow leopard...is this true?
@Gator115 Unfortunately you cannot upgrade your Mac to Snow Leopard. Apple used PowerPC processors prior to changing to Intel in 2006, so the latest version of Mac OS X that you could upgrade to is 10.5 "Leopard" (the last to support PowerPC). If you have not done this already, I would recommend it, although you may have some difficulty getting a copy of it. Leopard has a similar user interface to Snow Leopard and is is compatible with more apps, but be prepared for a performance decrease.
@JNArthur13 aww man, really? I have to spend over $100 just for a performance decrease? This sucks :( Like with regular tiger 10.4.11 I cant even download the most recent version of Firefox or Google Chrome, and youtube is really slow.
@Gator115 The performance decrease is just a possibility. I'm now running a 2011 OS (Lion) on a five year old Mac (after a RAM upgrade) and it runs fine for most usual tasks, so your Mac could be just fine with Leopard. If you have hard drive space to spare, you could install Leopard on a new partition and leave your Tiger install intact. That way you could boot into Leopard if you want to use the newer apps or boot into Tiger if you need more speed.
@MacintoshPlus1MB Thanks for your comment. I'll be posting a new video with footage of my Mac running Lion soon for anyone who is unsure how well their old Mac will run it.

@Gator115
>Performance increase
>Mac OSX
nope.avi
More lyk performance decrease.
Try upgrading Ram, (Should be DDR, I'd wiki your mac model to be sure).
And if that's not enough try Yellow Dog Linux.
It's free and much faster than OSX.

@Gator115
It's not Intel.
PPC-G5 tells you right off the bat.
Intel would be Pentium, Core, Atom, Celeron.
PPC (G3/4/5) are produced by IBM and sometimes a few other companies such as Motorola.

I actually like Windows! Both the Mac and PC have strengths and weaknesses and I enjoy using both.
