  • great video i love fishing for flaties

  • where is dat ?

  • good vid. i love fishing for flathead.

  • @kll508416 thanks mate. There are a few others up with better cameras if you are interested.

  • man i love flathead, and great vid

  • Nice vid mate top job, looks such a peaceful place to wet a line.

  • Top stuff mate, nice to see a quality fishing video without heavy metal music drowning out everything. I'll be getting my first Kayak in around 2 months time to do some soft plastic fishing in the Lake (this is Lake Macquarie btw). I also have found success with the Gulp 3 inch minnows, fishing for flatties from the shore. Anyway, keep up the good work.

  • heyy great vids you got here mate , keep em coming , im land based in sydney and catch a few flathead the biggest iv gcaught on a soft plastic had been a 56cm model and lost a big 90cm+ model , i was using a small squidgy lobby and a 100mm squidgy wriggler if i wanna target eating size flathead up to mosnters , should i upsive my plastics or keep em the same ?

  • @BigR000 - Thanks for the comment mate. I tend to use small lures (SPs and HBs) in shallow water where the fish will spook easier, and bigger out deep. A 3in gulp minnow (smelt or similar) has proven deadly. I've also caught flathead up to mid 70s on 1 3/4in paddle tails. I never seem to catch much size out deep. I haven't had a lot of success with squidgy plastics, always seem to do well on gulps but they can be a pain to store.

  • @SurfanFish yEAh thanks alot mate , well the first soft plastics i ever fished with were gulps , but neva caught anything with them for about 2 mnths aand then switched to squidgys and in my first seshion i caught 6 flathead over 40cm and 68cm one awsome , uhmm soo do u rcon that i can still catch really big flathead using smal plastics , or should i stick to the great big ones fro em ?

  • @BigR000 Just experiment mate. I mainly fish solo so don't see how others go. I find I catch plenty on the 3inch. I go up in size for snapper but that's deep water stuff.

  • looks like a great way to get some alone time what brand of kayak is that one your in in the clip great clip keep up the good work

  • @zappia08

Its a Viking Espri. A very popular all rounder and easy to set up for fishing. The solitude is probably more important than catching fish. There are a few other videos up in the espri as well as a couple in a new kayak

  • I find it relaxing just watching it at home on my PC. I can only imagine what it would be like out there on the water...

  • @JeanMarcSalama - I have 2 kayaks J-M, just be aware, if you come out - I will save the kayak first.

  • what is somthing you can recomend for a newbie to lure fishing for flat head and bream from my kayak i liv in the sunny coast QLD

  • @Dylan3Brady Slow troll some diving lures. For flathead, they need to be close to the bottom to hit regularly and kick up sand, mud etc. Maybe get 1 or 2 proven lures (go to a good tackle shop) until you are catching fish and see the action of the lure then experiment with cheaper stuff. Anything with a good action will catch fish. Focus on flathead to start with. Get a book or DVD on soft plastics and try them as well.

  • NICE! 2:54

  • Great video man. I love flathead and Bream,. Did you use a hard body in this video?

  • @chopzmasta07 Both HB's and plastics.

  • @SurfanFish Thanks, are your HB's surface or divers?

  • @chopzmasta07 - shallow divers

  • @SurfanFish Nice, I went today, got drenched and tried blades for the first time, picked up two flatties about 36 and 38 cm, had to keep one because it swallowed the lure really deep and by the time I got it out the poor bugger was dead. Keep fishing mate and keep the awesome vids coming. Have you ever used berkley gulp 2" nuclear chicken minnows? They are gun lures I highly recommend them.

  • @chopzmasta07 Tend to use 3in minnows a lot - p'seed, smelt. Only seem to catch anything on NC in deep water. Don't mind blades, good when the fish a bit shut down. Don't get out much due to work so make the most of it when I can.

  • @SurfanFish Hey, try using the squidgy flick baits with the resin jig head. Fish them in the shallows around structure at the run in or run out tides and you will see the bream you will nail on them. The only berkley I use now is the 2" minnow, I have gone to squidgies for the soft plastics.

  • hey mate

with your gulps that you use. do you just let them sit there or do you reel them in?

  • @roitkrualbow5 Depends on the gulp type. Mostly use flick minnows and bounce them along the bottom. Have a look a another video I put up a few days ago. It has a few seconds underwater showing what it would look like to a fish.

  • @SurfanFish berkley 2" minnows rock.

  • Great vid mate nice too see ya catch & release as well. Tight Lines

  • sorry i carnt stop watching this video it is so good just won $40 in my fishing comp today got a 3 kg flathead when i finshed weighing it it slaped my in the face then jumped out of my kayak thanks for telling me the gulps you used i used them and i hade heaps of fish on thanks again NICE VIDEO

  • @rubyfish771 Good catch mate and more to spend on fishing gear. I haven't fished for a while but will get back into it over the next few months, hopefully with a new camera. Depth of this fishing is anywhere from 30cm up to around 3 meters. There is another ok video of the same area walking the creek. Search for Creek Walk Flathead

  • @SurfanFish thanks mate you do heaps of great videos i love fishing :D what is ur bigest flathead u have caught

  • how deep is it there

    ?

  • Great video mate, just wondering what breaking strength line you were using?

  • Thanks. Generally use either 4lb or 6lb braid with 10lb leader in that type of water.

  • once again what gulp are you useing and nice rods

  • mainly 3in minnows in smelt or moldy cheese. Also use ecogear SX40 hard bodies (expensive) in the creeks and estuaries.

  • hey nice video were about is that i am in newcastle

    :)

  • Glad you liked it. The compilation was from a week or so fishing several waterways between Port Mac and Hat Head.

  • thank you i will have to go up there fioshing in my kayak what fishing kayak do you have

    :) james

  • A Viking Espri. If you have not already, consider joining a kayak fishing forum for heaps of great information. AKFF and KFDU are 2 good examples.

  • cool have fun have you ever be down to newcastle its gfreat place to fish
