  • has anyone got a few seconds long clip where at the end they just say 'what now?...' '... pub?' 'pub.'

  • To you British, you pay some kind of tvlicence fee just like I do

how does it work? can you avoid it? I live in Sverige and I have

    never paid any tvlicence.

  • You know you're in trouble when a puppet talks to you in your mums voice.

  • People complaining about Ads on the BBC - you aren't on the BBC, you're on Youtube. This video is available around the world - why should people who don't pay the licence fee get it for free?

  • @david552 because this is uploaded by BBC Worldwide, which doesn't receive a penny of the licence fee . . .

  • @AidanLunn true, it was uploaded by BBC Worldwide, which is the commercial arm of the BBC and therefore the intention in uploading the clip was for it to act as an advert for the DVD release and sales in other markets - but that undermines my argument.... how? The program was made using BBC licence money, but is now being rebroadcast on Youtube.... so Ads are to be expected.

  • @david552 Yes, also made using the money from the independent production company (Kudos), which is part-owned by Mr Murdoch, and money earned from BBC Worldwide.

And anyway, these people don't get it for free. Think to yourself why "free" commercial stations, like ITV, do cost you.

  • Kudos made the show, so they are in charge of advertising the DVD release. In fact, if you look on the DVD release, you won't find a single BBC Worldwide or 2-Entertainment logo on there - so the DVD release hasn't even been touched by BBC Worldwide. the BBC advertising a DVD release that they are publishing and that they didn't even make, only funded, is actually illegal. Hence why they're not doing that.

  • @AidanLunn the clip functions as an advert for the program and a promotion for the BBC in general - regardless of the specifics of this case. I must ask - why the fuck are you even talking to me? WHAT THE FUCK IS YOU FUCKING POINT?

  • @david552 My point is that in your comments, you are linking "the BBC" to "BBC Worldwide" advertising this. They're not the same company, as I said when BBC Worldwide is a *separate* company. It's BBC Worldwide advertising this, *not* the BBC, as you put it..

  • BBC Worldwide is a separate company that works on behalf of the BBC and several other broadcasters here as a sales agent - the commercial arm of the BBC. That doesn't necessarily mean it's actually *part* of the BBC.

I should know - I used to work at BBC Worldwide.

  • Adverts?? oh im sorry..isnt that we are FORCED to pay the licence fee..coz the BBC wont use adverts for revenue??? sod ya dictionary ill spell it for you..HYPOCRICY!!!!

  • @dreggs37 they do use adverts for revenue, along with the licence fee. Look up how Doctor Who gets its funding. this is BBC Worldwide that uploaded this - you know, that completely separate private-funded company that acts as a sales agent for the BBC.

  • @dreggs37 and you spelt "hypocri*s*y" wrong. Your attitude towards the dictionary seems to be why you can barely spell and for all the grammatical errors in this statement of yours.

  • @AidanLunn erm, sorry I must be the only guy who types after a few beers..you sad twat....shame people like you exist to just attempt to belittle others when you have no clue what they actually mean..let me guess, you work for the BBC and the licence fee we are forced to pay, pays your wages?

  • @dreggs37 Took you 5 months to come up with that? Wow you must be clever and fast at typing.

I'm the sad twat, when you're the one who is focussing on some kind of political achievement related to something as trivial as a TV licence?

The BBC doesn't take advertising. BBC Worldwide, however, does. And LoM was made by Kudos, not the BBC so any money from the advertising here goes to them.

Go ahead, search for my name on BBC programmes. You'll have a long search as I've never worked for them.

  • One of my favourite scenes is the one at the end of Season 2 Episode 2 where there is a bit of an emotional scene between Sam and Gene with the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road song in the background.

  • Ads. on the BBC.

I have to go eat my hat, and apparently my pig is flying away...

  • Some of the most epic television ever.

  • What episode is this?

  • I want to cry when I watch Sam after he hears his mum on the telly :,)

  • 'Think of it as a tax on bad people'

If Gene Hunt ran the police, there would be a lot less crime in my opinion.

  • @UNSCForwardontodawn Yeah, nowadays it's too political, Gene just runs in, kicks ass, locks 'em up, and goes onto the next.

  • the face of the pub owner was like WTF

  • Putting televisions into pubs has killed the British pub. I hate everyone who sits in a pub watching TV instead of staying the fuck home. Pubs are supposed to be for socialising. Or at least they used to be.

  • @jjdecani Sometimes its cool to watch the football/rugby at the pub though!

  • Genious

  • Gene is GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • #FTW I just can't stop watching this show.

  • LOM XXXX :) "In a pub?"

  • Sam's mum is a sock puppet. lol

  • Oh, my God! That's Noel! Noel from Casualty! XD

  • pubs without TV's are better

  • john is an amazing actor but philip comes out with the best things even when it isnt in his script

  • well i must say this looks fantastic it was upsetting to hear his mothers voice poor sam :(

  • They did have TVs in pubs in the late 1960s even, it was just rare to see them and they weren't used half as often.

It wasn't like today where you get constant Sky Sports in the background.

  • favourite bits of this:

when gene throws the record out the window

when sam punchs the guy hes like "ahhh" then straight after "stay there" (must not of hurt long xD)

  • RED CORDUROY!!

  • john simm is SUCH an amazing actor.... just thought i'd mention it.lol

  • john simm is an amazing actor, but philip glenister potrays gene amazingly (cant think of a word :S)

  • he's friggin brilliant, so unddervalued he could be the next heath ledger

  • anythink more revolting than a dishonest hippie. XD

  • Seems cool, in spain we have the same series named as "Yesterday's Girl", it's a little bit different, but the plot is the same. I think i'll donwload the british one and compare with the spanish.

  • la chica de ayer was indeed based on this show. Antenna tres bought the rights and shifted it forward in time so it was after Franco.

  • What is the money for that same has??

  • It was a bribe.

  • Surely they had tv's in pubs in the 1970s

  • On a table, probably not on the wall.

  • i dont think they did

  • No it was not common like it is these days. It wouldn't hahve occured to people to go to the pub to watch the football or whatever like they do these days.

  • that hippie got knocked the fuck out !

  • "Stop being such a girl, think of it as a tax on bad people!" - This kind of writing's why this show is one of the best things the BBC's knocked out for years.

  • John Simm has a lovely smile!

  • Yes, I totally agree, glad you noticed too

  • Just watched the very last episode of the series, fantastic. It really pitted the anal naughties against the contrast of the more emotional reactive 70's certainly in the workplace, gawd you could even have a ciggie at your desk...them were the days (lol)

  • I fuckin LOVE this show.

  • yeah Gene hunt is a top bloke- so loveable, yet so infuriatingly politically incorrect! i am so in love with this series- my mum just bought the dvd and the second series is running in australia now- so i can get my weekly fix still!

  • What a wonderful character Gene Hunt is eh? Ashes to Ashes is awful, Gene has carried both Life on Mars and the Ashes series.... bring back Life on Mars please!!!

  • I love Ashes and Life on Mars but i think the Story of Ashes is Better its more Complicated, I love Gene hunt He makes it!

  • True, but I feel the writing and the characters and the setting (i.e. 70's music, cars and clothes) are superior to the 80s and its Ashes spin off.

  • :O

    dont cry! =) lool

  • yeah but like its rubbish my dad says they had tellies in pubs in the 70s..fuk all has changed

  • ooh, i spotted a continuity error! watch gene's position - he faces the bar, he faces sam...he faces the bar, he faces sam... :D

  • boys and girls you will be glad to hear there isa third series out next year.its now set in 1980!the series is called ashes to ashes.everyone is in it bar sam!cant wait

  • Where have you been? Everybodies known for the past 4 months.

  • 1981

  • how can it be 1981? they drive a 1984 audi quatro...

  • watch episode one of ashes to ashes she says "

    its july 1981 "

  • just found out, it is set in 1981 but the car is a 1984 model. Just a mistake made by the BBC

  • 1. you're sad 2. Just sit back and listen to Gene...no need to get picky. :D

  • 83 quattro

  • Hunt got it as a dodgy German import of course. Sheesh.

  • lol, course

  • the quattro came in 1980

  • Makes hairs stand on the back of my neck when characters on the telly talk to him as visitors in the hospital.

  • The best cop shower ever, crying out for

    third sreies.

  • YEH ME TO

  • I agree, except i think its the one of the best shows ever full stop, second only to The Sopranos, they really should have made it longer, I'm watching an episode right now and all i can say is Gene Hunt is a fucking legend!

  • aye.

  • check out my friends media film, its based on life on mars, just add the youtube address to the front of the link

    /watch?v=s16my1zGjcQ

  • I love the scene. its a real "chicken and the egg" joke.
