  • I would never live in America. Is awful.

  • I think "campy" is the best word to describe this video.

  • lol @ Cobham: 3:05

  • wow this shit sucks!

  • LOVE BOBBY ..THIS STINKS THOUGH

  • did he ever play this in concert?

  • Oh God-was this Bob's answer to "We Built this City. On Schlock and Roll" ?I caught this act around the time of this release and they were great, but THIS...this is just putrid.

  • wtf?

  • I thought it was Bobby from Taxi.

  • this... really hurt to watch

  • This song is from WEST SIDE STORY right?

  • bobby is so coked out here haha

  • Wow, that's a rare sight indeed. In the 1980s, an American act that sings about the plight of Asian immigrants, and also features Asians in the music video. But this song is still extremely corny and is just too gosh-darn earnest.

  • Wow, never been a big Bobby fan but he just got some cred in my book. That perm alone is badass!

  • billy cobham?? talk about hired gun.

  • This video is Terriblarious!

  • Poor Bobby, lol. I love him, but this is more embarrassing than the Baba Booey apology video!

  • is that the bassist from little feat?

  • @TheDennisQuade

Yeah that's Kenny Gradney. I got to meet him one night and he was a great guy.

  • whys the drummer suddenly have his shirt off

  • This video always cheers me up... it's so hilarious to see Bob watching Asian teenagers. Priceless...

  • Come on, folks, these guys are just having fun! Do you really think this is serious? Do you have ANY idea who Billy Cobham is????

  • I have lost so much respect for Bob after I saw this video a while back. Realy sad.

I saw him playing with rat dog last year and all I could think about was this video :(

    Rip Jerry

  • This is why bob weir should be kept on a short leash.

  • ha cheese dick!!!

  • Simply put, this is a stunning piece of art.

  • That kid at 1:15 stole Bobbys shorts !!

  • @PhillyPhunk

Ya, that must be where he got the idea! ha lol

  • @PhillyPhunk

Ya, that must be where he got the idea! ha lol

This must been the last time he wore pants lol

  • aweful

  • Robert Hall Weir at his finest.

  • some people obviously have no life other than to piss on something a world famous musician did at one time in their career..........good luck, Mr. can't have a name without the F word it in......you must be a nice guy, should come over for thanksgiving dinner....LOL......now, go piss off and leave me the heck alone....

  • This is so incredibly bad....

  • Bobby, Bobby.......*headshake*

  • i can't belive bob wier is in this band

  • @notmefuckingname -- It's HIS band, man......get with the program

  • @tiedyekeith still, this is so unlike the dead, its like bob had a phase where he changes with the time and went fuckin 80's, idc if its bob wier, this shit sucks.

  • @tiedyekeith nd the "bobby" that the bands name is named after, is not bob wier, the singers name is bobby, "get witht he program," dumb ass

  • @notmefuckingname It's Bobby Weir's band. Weir goes by Bobby as well. He had a band right before this that was called the Bob Weir Band that had Cochran in it. Bobby Cochran sang on this song, but Weir sang most of their songs. What do you say when Weir sings one of their songs? The singer's name is Bob? Probably not. It's Weir and not Wier.

  • WTF?!?!?

  • I could only cringe as I watched the band laying on blankets. Bob Weir watching a chinese pick up basketball game...please....this could be the sickest thing iv'e watched in a long time........

  • I would rather castrate myself with a fishing knife then watch this display of suck ...ever again.

  • Everyone go watch the "Easy to Slip" live clip from '81 for proof that this band was actually pretty good. I don't know what's up with this - it's certainly a Bobby Cochran vehicle.

  • what the fuck is mapingthefreakout going on about...apt. name!

  • what was bobby thinking? / on?

  • it takes really good musicians to put that much suck into something like this....

  • This is more cheese than Velveeta could dream of.

  • Jesus, there's so much about this video that's just plain WRONG, I don't even know where to start. I don't know what's funnier, Bob's bad hair day or the whole Bobby Does Chinatown subplot.

  • the best part about being born in the 90s was not being a part of the 80s

  • I like Bob's shirt. That's the only positive thing I have to say.

  • wonder why they didn't put this in "Coming to America?" Oh yeah, Eddie wasn't even this sold out.

  • Man I love ya Bobby, but this is a queer as a Football Bat.....

  • Would you guys expect any less of bob weir? HE WANTED TO TURN THE GRATEFUL DEAD INTO THIS!!!

  • Completely Cheesy...perfect vehicle for Bobby

  • This song, video, and all evidence of its existence should be destroyed.

  • wish i never saw this lol :( if this is the first time you have heard of bob weir please go listen to the dead he is actually one of my favorite performers and a great singer and rythm guitar player.

  • just had to dislike, it's funny as hell, but gotta be honest on this internet thingy.....

  • Check out Kenny Gradney slappin' da bass!!

  • Billy Cobham is one of the best drummers to ever pick up a pair of sticks. I couldn't attach the link, but do a Youtube search for "George Duke with Billy Cobham - Rush Hour" if you want to see what I mean. Maximize the screen and turn up the volume. Unbelievable stuff.

  • Is the guy playing drums "High Tower" from Police Academy?

  • Is that drummer the same guy that played T.C. on Magnum P.I.?

  • i feel cheated

  • I kinda wish I'd never heard or saw this, lol!

  • Cheese it up, Bobby. Thankfully, Brent does not appear to have been a part of this sham, having quit before they made this craptastic song/video. Imagine that, Billy Cobham reduced to playing pop music.

  • @hal9000lovesdaisy hey dumbass, Billy Cobham was at the top of his game when this was made, just look at all the stuff he was doing during and after this. Sure it's a cheesy video but Bobby Cochran put together a great band and Bob weir and Billy Cobham and the rest were nice enough to help.

  • I guess this is B and the M's "born in the usa"? Can't blame them for trying for a hit and you have to look at it in cotext of the crap that was popular at the time. It's still pretty funny though.

  • @stuco except 'born in the usa' wasn't a pro-US tune

  • whoever made the Rick James "cocaine" video appear in the Related Links tothe right:

you are an internet genius. kudos, and well played.

    ::doffs cap

  • The comparison with JGB here hits hard, but Jerry is Dead and Bob is playing three hour shows with Furthur. Bob is a bit goofy, does not take things too seriously, adapts, and he is alive and healthy long after Jerry is gone. Who is crazy now?

  • @padgds Jerry is dead so he was crazy? wtf

  • This is so bad it hurts. This worse than culture club! Ha

  • To Catch A Predator - China Town Edition

  • Almost as bad as Ratdog.

  • hahahah bobby, im freinds with his daughter, hes great man

  • Ilove the production on this, where is Too many Losers ?? that is a great song, very well produced , I want to hear : Too many Losers , its good ...

  • Why is Dave Coulier singing?

  • Skaters, China Town, the Essay's and Hippies together again at last...thank god...

first listen I hated it...second one a little less....

    Go America!!!

  • Wow is that bad. It's so bad it's good! Like a parody. If you're not familiar with the drummer, that's Billy Cobham, one of the fastest, most powerful, and most influential drummers of all time. A monster.

  • Borat on Bass

  • Comment removed

  • but...don't they already live in America?

  • @canadianchewie1 ahahah i think so i really dont get these bums ahahaaa

  • CRAPTASTIC!!!

  • holy shit.... WTF Bob Weir.

  • Sweet Jesus this is the gayest thing I've ever seen. Bob seems to be having a lot of fun though.

  • Lol. JGB vs. Bobby and the Midnights, i think we all know who wins.

  • I hate Bobby even more after watching this....Jerry must have cracked up when he saw this :-)

  • God that is AWFUL.

  • HOLY S!

Is Bob Weir pantless at like, 2:35 & 2:39? O_o

    looks like it...

  • Is this from the album When You Beat Your Meat In The Street?

  • billy cobham is still trying to live this one down.

  • This is why Bobby is the best. Damn the blow was good in 84.

  • Holy crap wtf was Bobby thinking!... He went through a faze..pink polo shirts, super tight mini shorts, hmm..didn't he come out on roller skates once..(cow palace?).. Bobby used to put the Disco in the Dead!

  • "Pretty sure this is what happens when drug money runs out"

    Fixed it for you.

  • what a crappy video and what a crappy song

  • always the clown love it!

  • classic

  • To all the people who want to ralph:

did you ever hear of something called 'spoof', 'satire' or other 'joke'? Wake your mlnds and get it already! Don't ya'll know what a tongue in cheek JOKESTER Bob is? Apparently not, lol!

  • To all the folks who want to ralph:

ever heard of 'spoofs', 'satires', and other 'jokes'?

Wake your little mind and get it! Don't ya'll know what a JOKESTER Bob is? Apparently not!

  • This track was from the second Bobby & The Midnites LP: WHERE THE BEAT MEETS THE STREET (1984) which was an attempt to create some more contemporary sounds. Unfortunately the beat did not meet much commercial success, and the band split up soon afterwards.

  • @cryptical70 Hmmmm WONDER WHY? ROFLMAO

  • I read all 89 comments. No one noticed that the other Bobby is playing Weir's Cowboy Fancy? I guess he forgot to bring a guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • No, Bobby Cochran always played the Weir Floral Ibanez model.... There were two onstage in that band.

  • HAAAAAAAAAAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH.

    :: turns 4/7/72 dead back on ::

  • hysterical

  • he looks like he wants to molest one of those asian ballers. and what's with the cat in the briefcase?

  • This is really powerful stuff.

  • This has to be the most embarrassing thing that Bob Weir has ever participated in. They were obviously going for some commercial sound that is just grating. This was the Hey Day of videos and MTV so even great performers like Weir were making garbage videos such as this.

  • Vibe Tribe Rickroll!

  • Yes, Cocaine, Ronald Reagan, more cocaine, Mickey Mouse nostalgia for the 50's that weren't. All those pesky property taxes freed up for living the 'good life'. John Lennon and Bob Marley gone, Jerry getting smacked out and so on. Sad time to be a hippie. You had to be a punk to save your soul and sanity.

  • If it wasn't for that pesky Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, and the Grateful Dead, the eighties (and Bob Weir) would have treated to some of the finest rock and roll the world has ever seen since Huey Lewis.

  • OMG !! I wonder if Billy Cobham is even remotely aware that he's in this monumentally gawd-awful video. It makes one wonder, "why do people write songs ?"

  • jbfc

  • cocaine is a helluva drug

  • oh my gosh

  • You are a fag if you like this shit...butt fucking shit on the tip of a dick licker!!

  • Stop talking about what you and your dad do.

  • actually me and your Dad! Close enough...you could still jerk off to it.

  • This Is Awesome! I don't care what anybody else thinks. This band inspired me to be a musician. They were a great live act to see. Full of energy and lots of fun.

  • your inspiration is bobby and the midnights?

  • LOLLOLOL That is your inspiration? I cant take guitar lesson from you anymore...even if they are free!! JK bud did you see the cockbag response I got from the guy who fantasizes about incestuous pedophilia?

  • Yo bud some funny shit goin on in this thread!

  • wow really? your band must be a great show ...

  • Please man, please tell me you're joking. I can respect everything you said except the inspiration part. If this is your primary inspiration for making music... you are one of a kind.

  • Pretty sure this is what happens when the drugs wear off

  • holy shit this sing sucks ass.

    why, bobby? WHY?

  • COBHAM... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

  • funniest thing all week, holy shit its great. omg. and who says bobbys not the shit

  • Agreed! It is unfair to bash Bobby! Bob Weir, like Jerry, made the Dead what they were. What is not to love about Bob's vocals and rhythm guitar on a Jack Straw, Cassidy, Easy to Slip, Hell in a Bucket, Throwing Stones, etc? Weir is a genius!!!!!!

  • This vid is totally awesome! It inspires me! Now I want to go live in America! Not the America I live in now, but "this" America that the midnites sing about.

All I have to say is, the rock star gestures Bobby makes from 0:15 to 0.21 and especially 0.31-0.33 are the same f*kng annoying "look at me, I'm a rock star" gestures that drove me crazy when seeing him play with gd. Jesus Bobby, will you never realize how self-centered you are and learn it's about the spirit of the music, not about you??!

  • Borat on bass...that's the funniest thing I've heard all day...hahahahahahaha

  • is it any coincidence that all the young men in the video are wearing patented Bobby "daisy duke" shorts? totally lame.. lol I needed a laugh today.

  • Wow. I mean, wow.

  • Is that Borat on bass?

  • hahahahahaha holy shit bob

  • no snow no show

  • face. officially. melted.

  • worst. crap. ever.

  • epic

  • ahaha at the end when there laying on beach towels playing their instruments is fucking GOLD. The drummer FTW

  • this song and video is an embarrassment

  • It's a fine song you pop haters. Not great, but not bad. Don't have anything good to say about the video though.

  • cocaine is a hell of a drug

  • i love it! all of it!

  • I refuse to belive Bobby did this willigly. Maybe he got tired of doing good music and decided to change things up.

  • happy 4th of july. if you listen to it without looking at the vid, it's an ill song.

  • if you like shitty 80's pop.

  • Why didnt this ever make it into the GD's repertoire?????

  • Okay so who can pick out the man who had plenty of psychedelic trips back in the day?

  • bobby rarely tripped.

  • holy shit, im glad i wasnt born yet. christ bobby what were you thinkin man?! the 80's were rough...

  • pathetic. what a stacked band too.

  • hilarious ahhahaahha

  • this is high larious

  • ohmy i almost just pissed myslef!!! THX

  • I`m geeting sick watching this

  • Is this real?

  • This was not a show topper by any means 80's for sure but I do remember seeing them perfom this tune at the Waterbury Ct. Palace Theatre on bass was Stanley Clarke & on Drums was Billy Cobham. As a show overall it was smokin classic hard rockin Bob Weir

  • I remember hearing this song at a Midnights show, and thinking to myself that this is possibly the worst song I have ever heard. How could I have been so wrong? This rocks.

  • that was directed towards musicmonn by the way

  • Did he refer to everyone in China town as refuges?

  • Why I can`t give 7 stars to this video ??? ... is awesome !

  • And this Bobby wanker wants $100 for his band 'the dead'. Was it not Bobby who came out after Jerry died saying they would never used the name, then he went for the loophole. Bet Bobby boy spends more time trying to bang gullible spaced out (only kind he can get anymore) deadhead chicks than he does practicing for Dead tour 2009.

He is too arrogant to think he has to practice to earn his money, the wank-job is way too spoiled and egotistical.

    What a cheeseball!

  • first off,

your crazy.... so what if bobby had a terrible band, keep in mind it was the 80's, nothing good came out of the 80's, i saw the first show of the 09 tour and it was the greatest night of my life.... and practice??? he is bobby f'n weir... he doesnt need to practice, he is god. you dont know what your talking about. you were better off saying nothing at all

  • you should take your own advice !

  • bobby is awesome.. and ill stand by anything he does, theres no need to bash him for this song

  • loser

  • Comment removed

  • O.o

holy mother of all that is good and pure

  • I'm speechless! At the end, when they're laying on blankets on the beach playing while laying down...omg- and what did Bobby score in Chinatown?

  • This song is probably on the GM factory cassette that came with every new '84 Camaro.

  • MEGA-FAIL. Yes. So fail it succeeds.

  • heck that's why i liked bob to begin with

that bobby spit doesn't feel so bad anymore;)

maybe he can make cheese with that spit

  • I wonder if he plays this at the Bohemian Grove?

  • how did Bobby get Borat to play bass in his band?
