  • and because of Korea war,

You Japs could rise from the ruins of WW2

If theres no Korea war you Japs won't make anything and would still stay in the 3rd world.

  • You Japs are just fucking asshole

Jap supported Korea to become rich?

how about the natural resources you japs stole from Korea during the colonization??

Japs are always like this... hide their weakness and insist their strength

and they even tweak the truth!!

  • Japan better fix up their politics lest they want to end up in a situation where they need a bail out with their huge debt. Their current account surplus is going to go down. They are hollowing out due to high yen and stuck in a stagflation domestically. They keep deficit spending as if they are in fantasy land where money grows on trees with ineffective stimulus packages that add up to the debt of 200%+ of their GDP thats about $10T+.

  • Funny, nobody gives credit to access to US market and knowhow. It contributed to the development of both South Korea and Japan. Japan did give some aid however it is a relative small thing to the overall development of Korea. Japan itself was also a developing nation in the 60s. Just further up the development curve. Now both countries are relatively close in terms of where they are development. The ties break is the politics of the countries, Korea seems to be favored given what they did in 97.

  • @redwhitedude the real thing that activated the economy of Japan was the Korea war. Not was the direct help of US, with not so good results as in Japan the Korea/Taiwan economy was boosted by the Vietnam war. Japan already had corporations with industrial power like Mitsubishi to offer machinery to the US in Korea war. South Korea had not technology, in 1965 Samsung was still a woolen textile company just men went to Vietnam. For Both Japan and Korea the innovation came of its own effort

  • @AZURA888 I don't deny the korean war got the ball rolling. That was the spark but access to US market and knowhow helped it along once it got going. Korea just got off to a later start Japan in 1950 Korea in the 60s.

  • @redwhitedude External factors that boosted the Japanese Economy: Korean War - Access to US Market - US knowhow - US economic help. Internal Factors: low corruption at least till 1980, very high percentage of investment, politic stability.

In Korea: implementation of a state driven capitalist economy. Vietnam war, severe control of government over nascent companies and workers, public investment and active effort of the state for creating big conglomerates and protection of private chaebols

  • Damn, I wish Mexico could do this. We had the chance after WWII, but politicians of that time, ruined everything.

  • @Billyscccu It still better than most of latin america. In fact in may the best in latin america. They need to clean up the crime and corruption in that country.

  • @redwhitedude Well, you may be right. I haven't visited any other latin american country (I'm from Mexico but I've visited USA, Canada and Europe). The main problem here is corruption and obsolete institutions, definitely. That's the root of all evil in Mexico: corruption and obsolete institutions.

  • Doesn't matter both north and south were ravaged by war. North built its industries with Russian and Chinese aid. While south built with US and Japanese aid. Whatever japan did was mostly undone by the war. It did give north korea an initial advantage. A lot of this westernizing was due to politics. Japan took advantage of the overthrown of the tokugawa to westernize. Joseon the political system was evolutionary lasted 500 years was unable to make the necessary radical changes.

  • Japan sold uncountable many weapons to Korea when the Korean War occurred. This is WHY Japan became wealthy country in Asia after World War 2.

Modern Japan is made of many Korean's bloods and sacrifices.

  • @0920fall The funny thing was the weapons factory that the us was bombing in WWII were not being used to supply the US forces in Korea. The 180 degree turn on US policy on Japan between 1945 and 1950.

  • @0920fall You know I notice a lot of pointless arguments on youtube on who contributed what and who should get credit. Just accept as it played itself out like that. Just take the point of view of adding bits of info to correct inaccuracies

  • 아~ 눈물난다 ㅠㅠ

아래 쪽바리들 니들이 한국전쟁덕에 부활한건 알고나 있냐?

  • lol this miracle of han river thingy makes me laugh! What country wouldnt become rich if they were aided $80 Million dollars? Even Libya will become rich!!

  • Comment removed

  • @iloveinazumaeleven A large amount of aid has been poured into the developing world but none of them has actually 'economically' developed as yet as Korea has. Following the Korean War, Korea was poorer than two thrids of sub-Saharan Africa. What happend to those countries then? Don't you think they should've been developed by now providing that they've recieved an enormous amount of aid too? It's not as simple as that, don't rush to judgement without taking into account many other factors.

  • @iloveinazumaeleven Aid does not necessarily mean the development of the country is given. If you give aid but the politics of the country is messed up it will squander all the aid.

  • Where is a credit to Land of Rising Sun, Japan, who was the sponsor of this MIRACLE? It was done by Japan money. Why do you hide the most important fact in history?

  • @NoNoSpice :) :) :)

modern south korea and taiwan "MADE IN JAPAN."

    the sad but factual truth.

  • @jexicon I don't know about Taiwan but South Korea had to go through destructive war which demolished a lot of stuff that was built in the Colonial period. Also Korea after 1945 did not have a skilled labor force so there is no carry over from the Colonial period. Just look at the clips on BBC-PBS documentary People's century -Asia Rising on south Korea.

  • @redwhitedude

Everything that was demolished in South Korea was built by the Japanese.

South Korea is an extension of Japan.

  • @jexicon Nope it's the other way around. Korea helped Japan along in its early days that is within the first millenia AD.

It was demolished but there were no skilled labor force to rebuild and move the country forward. Japanese left Korea with no skilled labor so if you think that Japan needs to be thanked I don't think so. They should have left us skilled labor but they discriminated and deliberate avoided bringing Koreans as skilled labor.

  • @NoNoSpice Japan left Korea with no skilled labor force. They dispossessed a lot of Koreans to give land to Japanese settlers. Also There was a Korean War which destroyed a lot of what was built in that colonial period plus the country was divided depriving the south of all the industries that the japanese had built in the north.

  • 일어나라 대한민국!

  • azazaz720 = total liar japanese

  • "horrendous actions by the Japanese" WTF? How the hell can you say that? Dont think Japan was the same as Nazis, idiot. Did Japan kill 10 million Asians, like Nazis did to Jewish? NO. Japan modernized Korea, just like Japan modernized Taiwan. Why do Koreans say Japanese were evil, when Taiwan says Japan was so nice, huh? Japan freed Asia from the 300 years of painful European control. How could you say this is "horrendous" idiot. Europeans are horrendous, using humans as slaves. Did Japan? NO.

  • @azazaz720

    The FACTS

    Korea forcibly annexed in 1910

Thousands of Koreans slaughtered for their Christian beliefs

Hundreds of thousands of Koreans conscripted into the Japanese Forces and countless thousands more taken as labours and comfort women to die in foreign lands at the hands of the Japanese

The theory, "The Greater Asian Co-prosperity sphere" basically involved kicking out the Europeans to replace them as oppressors and murderers to pillage resources for Japan

  • @azazaz720

Millions of Chinese massacred at the hands of the Japanese

The war in China involved brutal contests and executions involving swords and biological weapons

Gas was used in hundreds of cases by the Japanese against the Chinese

You Japanese better thank God that the Americans choose not to nuke more than two cities

  • Yes Japan was the Asian Mirror of Germany

In 1942, your people CONTINUED killing millions in the name of your Emperor in a war they started against a power they knew they couldn't win against. Japan deserved everything they got because of its sheer stupidity

Japan modernized Korea only so that they could exploit our labour for Japan. The 1950 War all but destroyed all of the Japanese built infrastructure.

  • @azazaz720

Now though, I do feel sorry for the Japanese people.

Your country and people have been forcibly castrated by the Americans and now your country is a mess both politically and economically. Japan killed millions of Chinese, now the Chinese have the capability to turn 150 million Japanese into dust through convectional and unconventional warfare. North Korea has the capability to turn Tokyo into a flaming wreck, do you see the irony here?

  • @azazaz720

South Korea, the closest thing you Japanese have for an ally in Asia, (do you see the irony again?) can barely stand dealing with Japan. On one hand you propose military co-operation and economic integration but on the other hand you Japanese claim ignorance to their oppression of Koreans and scream at us over Dokdo.

Utter bullshit and good riddance to you Japanese.

  • @johnlewisy Oh no... At this level there's no point discussing with you. You are so biased and you are completely brainwashed. I feel sorry you don't know the true history.

  • @azazaz720

LOL, I just recently finished a ISP on the Economic Rise and Decline of Japan, 97% asshole!

I think I know my shit on this man!

  • @azazaz720

Oh, I don't think I'm biased, just brutally honest! As for brainwashed, you should take a good look in your mirror.

According to your true history, WW2 was a happy happy time when the glorious Japanese forces "peacefully" and "respectfully" liberated millions of asians. They had no idea how many of those liberated asians were found dead in ditches later!

  • @johnlewisy hahaha brainwashed people

  • @azazaz720

The person who I despise the most are ones who reject all wrongdoing and history itself to foster more hate and show the desire to repeat past mistakes.

I may indeed be biased to a minor degree because I am of Korean ethnicity but please be aware I am much more tolerant and more reliant on facts than most Koreans will be as a citizen of a multicultural nation.

  • @johnlewisy

If Japanese people in this modern world still hold even a bit of your mentality, I wouldn't wait for any co-operation or help from neighboring nations.

You have a serious problem that you should urgently and immediately seek help for.

  • @azazaz720

You on the other hand are an internet Hitler. You're probably a Japanese ultra nationalist or a nationalist at the very least. You look at Koreans and other Asians if they're animals inferior to Japanese and your head is in the past. Haven't you heard of something called "Facts on the Ground?". Here is the reality, Japan is in a stage of decline right now due to its decreasing economic competitiveness and demographic problems.

  • @johnlewisy OMG, just watch the video, stop trolling. I strongly think you should know the true history, not a distorted one.

  • @azazaz720

Very sad, the xenophobic ultra nationalist can't argue against the data. Run away little boy and stop crying!

I do like real history, I just don't like your version of it!

  • @johnlewisy You just dont want to admit the true history. It's okay.

  • Comment removed

  • BTW, Japan received MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FROM USA AS AN AID. LOL

  • Japan aided 80 million dollars in 1959. The Korean government's budget in 1959 was 25 mill. So Japan aided *3 the Korean governments budget. This helped Korea a loooot to develop.

  • @iloveinazumaeleven 80 million was NOT an aid, you LIAR, it was a small compensation of your fucked up country Japan for KILLING AND RAPING AND STEALING THROUGH ILLEGAL ANNEXATION.

    YOU STUPID LIAR, SHUT UP.

  • @iloveinazumaeleven

Well idiot, do you really think Japan could have recovered by itself after WW2? Two cities nuked, other cities devastated, millions of Japanese "settlers" deported from other nations and no funds or tangible resources to fund reconstruction. IDIOT

  • @johnlewisy In 1965 at the Treaty on Basic Relations between Japan and the Republic of Korea, Japan gave $800 million to Korea. btw, US didnt aid Japan $800 million, not that much. US didnt even aid Japan $50 million. Besides, every year Japan gave huge ODA to Korea. Why is this ignored?

  • @azazaz720

Are you really so ignorant about this? America spent billions buying supplies in Japan for the Korean War and to a small extent, the Vietnam War. Without those billions, Japan would have NOT had the capital to rebuild their heavy industries which provided income that could be used to expand their industries and rebuild infrastructure. Only idiots like you think that Japan could have got out of their hell hole by themselves.

  • Economic help doesn't matter if there is not the ambition, just see arab nations with a lot of money from oil and they has not the interest to expand their economy beyond oil because oil let a nation to hide corruption. When private capitalism goes tied with a imperialist government + time you get a power nation, a Japan, a Israel, a Taiwan, a SK and so is doing China and Rusia.

  • The miracle of economic freedom otherwise known as capitalism.

  • 지...지렸다

  • Do you know from where Korea got money of reconstruction? It was from Japan, US, and other European countries. Hangan's miracle had the supporters in the world. It was not done by Korean budget. To know this is very important for Koreans.

  • @NoNoSpice Japanese? European? Give me the records. hahhaha Japanese economy was made by USA, thank your USA master!

  • This has got to be one of the best commercials I have ever seen. I'm not even Korean and it made me tear up.

  • Anyone know the exact version of Arirang that's being played in the background?

  • The incredible of South Korea is that people that lived the miracle of being one of the poorest nations in the world until to be the 13º power of this world, is still alive. For me is amazing how EEUU 300 years ago didn't exist and at the begining was poorer than China, and now EEUU is the first power.

I mean, there is not small countries, rather small minds. Any of the poor places of today could be the richest in the future.

  • we are korean!

  • We had nothing, absolutely nothing therefore whatever we did, we could make something That surprised the whole world And gave us the sudden surre of joy and pride all these made us aim higher This time we will make it again because we are korea

  • Comment removed

  • i'm american and proud that korean is our best friend....

  • @Astro3100

Korea is a very small country which had Japanese industrialize it during the colonization and the Americans continued the process of developing South Korea through extensive aid.It would have taken much longer without Japan, or America, and the presence of a communist neighbor. North Korea is the major reason why South Korea received major assistance from America.

  • No, thank you I understand. Play Age of Empires you will have an idea what means to rise a country. I think the maniac of the north doesn't know who is bothering. South Korea could seems pacifist but is of wise to be patient. SK have been accumulating such economical and tecnological power since 50 years ago than actually is 31 times bigger than the resourses of NK.

  • wonderful but fragile, considering it has a maniac northern borther.

  • Africa can does it too. Diseases, bad weather etc... you can have everything against you but if you don't retreat and maintain firm in your objectives the growing would come. South Korea is a developmental state, they achieved their growing paying low salaries to their workers and had blood, but if you want to save, you have to do that. There is only 1 example of developmental state in Africa, is Botswana, with HIV in 48% of their population!! they are on 15K richer than Argentina, is amazing.

  • Could somebody please to translate in english what is saying the korean guy?. And of course we in my country Venezuela should to import South Koreans politics who help us.

  • it's pretty amazing that Korea could be the top 12 advanced and richest country in the world in only 50 years...

  • Sarah,

Let's not be too hard on Africa. They don't have confucianism. They have a lot a diseases from there being jungles, they didn't have even a bronze age civilizations before the Europeans came to colonize them.

  • I wonder why korea was able to become an economic power so quickly after the devastation of the Korean war and the Japanese occupation in WWII but most countries in Africa fail even half a century after colonialism ended??

  • hhaha i wana be a korean too.. =)

  • Gentle Sage-K got mugged by a bunch of shorty JP-gansters, sure it can happen, Korean brush off as a dirty day , Imp-Jap never built anything that is good for Corea industry, Jobs were strictly controlled, industrial skill works were non existent for Corean, except in Japan, Japs' Complete ransack of live stocks, natural resources, Korea had to struggle for 30 Yrs post WWll with nothing, just to kick in industrialization, After mere 30+ yrs, We are richest, healthiest economy in d World

  • Ah~ proud to be Korean :)

  • @fivejaws Do you know that JAPAN AIDED 80 MILLION US Dollars (Which was twice the Korea's government budget) to Korea in 1959 to support Korea's economic development?

  • @iloveinazumaeleven

Well the Japanese has invaded Korea throughout hundreds of years killing countless Koreans. In 1910, Japan annexed a sovereign nation and attempted to wipe out their culture. During WW2, hundreds of thousands of Koreans were conscripted when it wasn't their war and farmers lost their entire harvests to greedy Japanese soldiers.

Now in the modern world, Japan is declining while China and Korea are prospering. Financial compensation is not enough. Japan must act quickly

  • @johnlewisy Japan received huge financial AID from USA and took advantage of Korean War.

With that money, they compensated Korea, not aided. Do not communicate with this Japanese liar, "iloveinazumaeleven"

  • @Mayplestory1

Without the Korean War, they never would have jump started their industrial development.

I am really shocked at the ignorance and pride some Japanese show regarding their horrendous actions up to WW2. iloveinazumaeleven clearly being one of them.

Only a true idiot can spout anti-Korean crap on a video showing the economic recovery of South Korea

  • @iloveinazumaeleven It invaded and occupied Korea for 35 years, during which it exploited the people and natural resources. Given that, 80M USD doesn't seem much, regardless of the size of Korean budget at that time. Furthermore, Japan was able to jump start its economy by taking advantage of the Korean War. Plus, look at African countries. No matter how much aid you give them, many of them are not making progress. Korea stood up from the ruins and become one of the world's wealthiest nations.

  • @fivejaws Korea was able to be rich because Japan built the basic infrastructures in Korea during the annexation.

  • @iloveinazumaeleven

One thing, though, is that a great majority of the infrastructure was built in present day North Korea, the area that is now South Korea was left largely underdeveloped, and left for agriculture. Also, much of the little actually made in the are was destroyed during the Korean War. Last thing, before being annexed, Korea was already introducing electricity, telephones and the like. Without Japan, Korea might actually be better off.

  • @ThePhilipkwon True. Westernization was an established trend unfortunately Japan was faster at it than Korea.

  • @redwhitedude True. But I remember reading somewhere that Joseon, and especially Seoul, was developing at one of the fastest rates at the time. Only problem was that Japan started about half a century before, also at a fast rate. And, to the others on here, I will repeat, most, or all, of the industrializing of Korea done by Japan was in today North Korea, while the south was largely agriculture. Basically, in the long run, Japan helped north Korea more than South Korea during its occupation.
