This is very much like Kenpo that i learned in the 70s, and that was TRACO, later changed to Tracys after the falling out with Tom Conner. it worked back then (personal experience) and it works now. All you Kenpo Gods ought to get a grtip. Kenpo isn't all your way only,"
I think you guys are doing some good things. if you guys want some constructive criticism I think you are moving to fast in some areas and not allowing the Uki to react to the previous manipulation. Speed can be great and in the areas where you need speed you guys are doing it well, some areas require a control, or a pause you guys are missing opportunities in some points from speeding through.
Good stuff. One of the very, VERY few Kenpo vids I have seen that show good power and intent. I've studied the Tracy system of Kenpo for just over 10 yrs now, so I can appreciate how you present the system, even considering differences between the way you all teach it and the way we teach it (because differences are not necessarily deficits).
I can't keep responding to these fools. I have more "acting" to teach. By the way, not only do I feel my kenpo is strong. I feel others are weak. And if someone wants to elevate my skill and share with me something I may not have seen. There is room in my cup and room for just a few more "real life" demos with you so called "brawlers"
@TheAngrykaratekid15 This is Tracy's system as It was originally taught to me a long time ago. Things have evolved. Also, American kenpo has many of the same stuff with differant names. I guess what works for you right? I guess in your long history of Kenpo training you haven't learned that yet and its not even your fault.
I think Kenpo is full of great potential, but some of this is just plain silly and little more than toys imo. And they should hang a sign on the door that reads Kenpo/Jujitsu/Acting classes, cause the attacker is just goofy with with the acting ,..again IMO
I guess you didn't read the fact that this is a performance of the sankyu level of Tracy's Kenpo. Here is a small list of kenpo actors. James Ibrao, Adrian Emperado, Paul Mills, Larry Tatum, Frank Trejo, Frank Soto and Joe Simonet. Oh I almost forgot there is that one little guy you may have heard of, Chuck Liddell, heard he is a great kenpo actor.
I get so tired of kenpo guys throwing chuck out there, ffs he does mma, who cares if he trained kenpo before all the other shit he trains now ? i have watched chuck fight more than once and what he does look zero like any shit i see in any kenpo video
thats because the self defense techniques are not designed and were never intended to work in a "fighting" format. they are self defense ideas, not meant to be taken literally step by step. they are designed to teach concepts of the art and provide a base. many of them are from grabs, bear hugs, or haymakers for instance.
its doesnt make sense, and if you want to tape urself throwing hands with some guy at a bar..go for it. would i think its kewl ? doubtful. And fyi..i dont like mma or bjj or any of that shit either, im not one of those my art is better than your art guys..as i said i think kenpo is full of potential,,but it will take someone who adapts it for reality and trains it that way before i would want to be building my muscle memory to react in a way that just wont happen.
Theres really no such thing as adapting it to reality, regardless of what anyone will preach to you. You cant practicing maiming someone without serious jail time. Boxing, MMA, Traditional Arts, when you look closely they all have their strengths and weaknesses. People saying that MMA is PURE reality based dont really know streetfighting. As we most know, streetfighting is rarely between two people and never has rules. Whereas u can go to the ufc website and see their "fouls"/rules 4 urself.
You are absolutely right...many of these "actors", including Larry Tatum and Ed Parker were so natural that they ended up doing silly movies, even with their beer bellies hanging and all. On the other hand, Paul Mills is more of a metaphysicist now, preaching all sorts of worthless crap.
None of the other silly actors named here, with the exeption of Sijo Adriano Emperado, were tested street fighters. All the others live their lives demonstrating their worthless techniques against static ukes.
Train hard in what works for you but remember the history of the style you call your own. Next time Ill have a camera follow me around to me next Bar fight, bet youd think that was cool huh? Look me up if you ever want any acting lessons.
dude i am totaly wit u on it, theres no way that a person can pull all that shit all at once, the best individual can do is block and one counter, but no one gunna come at you wit just one treight punch or what ever
This is a DEMONSTRATION of a particular belt of Tracy's Kenpo. If we showed us trying to counter the defenses, you lose the pureness. Trust me we could have made it look a lot cleaner if we had "acted" more. But please Im always looking to learn something so teach away.
Hands down the best Kenpo I have seen in years. The other videos are even better.

umm, what he uses in the ring is kempo, buddy. Its because theirs a difference between self-defense techniques and sparring techniques and both work.
