I don't know much about camera but I think i will get this one instead of the 5d ii, are there filter for different types of looks, is it easy to use, is it good for filming short films? clomtl could you please answer, thanks - Sebastian(ThatMovieGuy55)
how come every time i try to view this in 720p HD, it gets all laggy and skips? is it my internet connection or brand of computer or something the guy who made the video did wrong??
salut , c est une tres bon video excelent travail , je suis un guitariste et j aimerai que tu m a donner le titre de la chanson que tu as utiliser dans cette chanson .
@TheBurlybrad There is definitely a little bit of noise, but not near as much as using the auto focus. Zooming on telephoto lenses also produces some noise.
I'll make a video tonight with the sound intact so you can hear it based on a couple different lenses I have.
With the more expensive lenses, I don't believe there is near as much noise from focusing. Unfortunately, I don't any expensive lenses so I can't actually vouch for them.
@TheBurlybrad An external mic would be able to pick up auto focus, but it's not likely that it would pick up manual focus. Same for the zoom. The noise on manual focus mainly comes from the mic being inside the camera body which picks up vibrations from the lens.
@TheTaspatses The cropped sensor gives a 1.6 scale factor for the EF lenses. For the 50mm f1.8 II, it would end up being effectively the same as an 80mm EF-S lens -> 50mm * 1.6 = 80mm.
@131dgbaatka I haven't read anything saying that 64gb sd cards won't work, so it should be fine.
One limitation of the camera is that it can only record clips up to 4gb in size in one continuous shot. Once the 4gb limit is hit, recording stops, and you have to hit the record button again to start a new clip.
@Smalskin The camera does not add the ability to zoom to a prime lens. The only lenses that can zoom are the ones from the following categories: Ultra-Wide Zoom, Standard Zoom, Telephoto Zoom.
@MrLukasDiSparrow Yes, you can zoom while recording. If you have a lens that can zoom for normal picture use, it will zoom in video mode as well. I've gotten fantastic battery life. I rarely ever use a flash which definitely helps, but overall the battery life on these cameras is amazing. It never hurts to have a spare, though.
@MrLukasDiSparrow The low light performance is great, but it depends a good bit on what lens you are using. In this video, I used the 50mm f1.8. It's nice and cheap and gives great performance, but no zooming. The 50mm f1.4 & 50mm f1.2 give even better performance, but they're quite expensive. You can get zoom lenses down in the low ~f2.0 range, but those are even more expensive.
@fidanM The only thing you can do manually while shooting video is focus. You can change the white balance, color profile, auto focus mode, and video resolution, but that is all. To get complete control over the exposure you need a much higher end camera.
The main reason for doing video in cameras like this is to get the same depth of field look in video. Keeping the main subject in focus is extremely hard, but I think it gives a nice look. Also keep in mind, this was the first video I shot with the camera, and my first time ever doing manual focus.
The autofocus on this camera leaves a lot to be desired. I've heard that some of the newer cameras can do full time autofocus during video, but I haven't seen it in action.
Just wondering - I have a Canon Rebel XSi which doesn't take videos, and I'm thinking of upgrading to a T1i or T2i? How does the sound recording on the videos work? This may sound like a dumb question, but the only video camera I have is a crappy one I've had for years. Is there a built in mic like in normal video cameras, or do you need an extra mic attachment thing to take with it? (Because I see a lot of people carrying cameras with microphones around.)
Both the T1i and T2i have built in microphones, but neither of them are very great. Whenever you zoom or focus, it comes across quite loud on the video. They are pretty much the equivalent to what would be on any of the entry HD video camcorders.
The T2i has the advantage of an external plug for a microphone, plus some more configurable video shooting modes.
The 500D only does 20 fps at 1080p, but it can do 30 fps at 720p. I prefer higher frame rate to total size for the little bit that I do.
The 550D can do 30 fps at 1080p, and it also has a plug in for an external mic. The 550D is a much better camera for HD Video. If you can get a 500D for a good price, though, it's definitely not bad.

ThatMovieGuy55 4 months ago
@ThatMovieGuy55 . Yep you can use any filters that fit the front thread of the lens.
It should be fine for short films.
One problem I had with movie clips was it kept cutting out after a few seconds so you need a fast memory card to keep up with it.
If youre into videos do a search for magic lantern, its a firmware upgrade that goes on the memory card and gives you a LOT of video options.
