Nintendo isnt about graphics, they're about inovation such as what will be the next step for gaming not just graphics and as far as I can recall their systems have been ahead of their time; like the nintendo ds with its touch screen wich sony it going to copy, motion sensors wich sony and xbox have copied as well,and not to mention how nintendo surpriced us with the 3ds at a price that anyone can afford. Lets face it their marketing plan its amazing creating fun and affordable consoles.
Nintendo as a company ,I think, is great because they have been making console prototypes. What really makes Nintendo ,as you said, ''blow away'' is the fact that Sony and Microsoft copy this new stuff and take them to the next level.

I like it already. I think Nintendo needs this to boost up their popularity but I still think that somehow they're shooting themselves in the foot. Okay, HD, with a Blu-Ray player, it's about time Nintendo comes with this feature. That means their games will look better too. Now what I don't like are the controls. I just don't see how a controller would look right as a stand-alone as a handheld touch screen system. Like somehow they're thinking backwards with this move altogether.
If you ask me, the Wii would've failed if it wasn't for one thing and one thing only, the solid-gold advertising campaign. If it wasn't for that then it would've failed, the Wii has poor third-party support, outdated CPU (you know there's a problem when there are cellphones with more CPU than Wii only 3-4 years after it's launch instead of 7-8), motion sensing that works only 50% of the time and shakes like a 5-year old on cappuccino, god awful online setup, and poor launch titles.
If Nintendo is actually thinking of releasing a new Wii this year or next year (which I think is a dangerous move since a lot of people are losing their jobs, and some are still looking for one), they probably will not use it full potential since it might be too expensive for people to buy. Like how PS doesn't use the full potential of it system since if they did, it would be very expensive for many people to buy it.
i think it will be just like before sure people will buy it but then in about a year or more it will be JUST like the wii and plus they need to hurry it up since it has almost been 6 years since the new wii

Releasing the Wii2 2 years before Sony and Microsoft release their next console would really help Nintendo gain control of the market and establish a reliable fan base, thus giving them a huge head start. Besides, graphics can’t really get that much more advanced before the human eye can’t register the improved details.

How about thinking for a second? The Nintendo Wii had worse graphics than the PS3 and the 360 yet it sold more systems, because of its innovation. If Nintendo innovates with this system they will likely sell more copies. With the new console entering the next gen so soon it will attract more hardcore games and will expand Nintendo's market. Until 2014 when the other consoles will release their better graphics however the evident lack of innovation. Innovation is what revolutionizes the industry.

the wii 2 is basically a "next gen" current gen console. they said its more powerful than 360 yet, when micro releases another console they will already be behind again.the controller is going to have a touch screen on it and i believe they are going back to a more traditional system with a controller or more hardcore and not continuing the motion gaming route
The reason I said Wii is like a filler was that, it was never Nintendo's intend to make it as a true successor to the GameCube. It's probably just an upgraded console with new motion control launch to hold players interest in Nintendo until the real successor arrive. Wii was released to test 2 things: 1- motion control gameplay, 2- will the gaming industry accept it. It seems the gameplay didn't really worked the way Nintendo thought it would and it seems more gamers are not happy about it.
C'mon you don't actually think Nintendo will go beyond powers of the PC when talking about graphic powers do you? Nintendo knows their limits in the gaming industry, going beyond what was currently out is gonna put them more in jeopardy than any other. @MolonyProductions The reason for that is cuz not everyone who own a PC really own it for the games, it much more than that. Some bought it to do projects, other bought it to surf the web, some bought it to start their own business, and so on. Gamers who game only on PC will have a totally different experience of gaming from those who game on console. Whereas on PC you have powers over innovation, on consoles you have innovation over power.
DvD size- about 8.5 gb standard size of game- 5-7 gb + blu ray does not enhance quality in any shape or form, just increases size of storage. Not enough storage? Just add a disk 2 Blu Ray is useless unless used for movies but who needs them when we have netfix?
@crazymad63: In order to support Blu-Ray, it would have to be more powerful in order to playback the video - if it will play video, which I imagine it must or there would not a be a reason for it. Wii2 could go the way of the Saturn - coming out at a time when we don't expect it. Nintendo also talked about graphics are not everything, now they want graphics. I guess they realized they cannot get a GTA game or other hot CURRENT games.
@n0gar Well this also the next generation. Im sure by the time Sony and Microsoft moves into the next gen, Blu-ray will probably be standard. And, obviously, HD has been pretty standard for a while. I think it was definitely necessary for Nintendo to move onto a new console, the Wii was embarassingly limited. Whether Wii2 will be good, however, has yet to be seen. I hope so, i really like stuff like Zelda, but the wii was crap.

I was a very big Wii hater on the newsgroups and of course the Nintendo propagandists were out there. I always said that if they got current graphics and back to what they once had, i would buy it. Obviously if they look like shit, that doesnt help, but the problem is the wii is full of gimmick, unpolished crap. If it had more games like Twilight Princess, Brawl, and SMG where the gameplay (and graphics) are a lot better and more full featured, it would be a more worthwhile system. Im hoping the switch to a controller rather than a remote will bring back better gameplay.
Not that the graphics of Wii are that bad though, Just get a good TV. And any Nintendo-made games all have great graphics. Like Mario Galaxy had AMAZING graphics.

@Marco72221 Sony is just a big Helper of Blu Ray and 3D Blu Ray but they don't own it. But the history of Nintendo and Sony,then it might be that Wii 2 will only get 25 GB while ps3 will get 50 GB up to 80 GB or as soon as Blu ray gets up to 160 GB then there will upgrade the wii 2 50 GB or 80 GB becuz Sony doesent want to loose its costumures for the next 4 years.

When I was younger, I had the Nintendo 64, then Gamecube, and then the Wii. But when I got to highschool, I got the 360 and I find that I play the 360 a lot more.
i think its a bad move. i think they should just wait another 2, 3 years and use the same technology the new xbox or new playstation is gonna probably use. Gunns, while your points are correct, I think Nintendo is a lot more about it's software than it's hardware, and all the great franchises that they own, each with thousands of fans that will be 100% happy to purchase a new Nintendo console purely for those IPs. I don't think they need AMAZING graphics and power, maybe just enough to surpass the current generation of consoles (whether that be by a small or large amount). Saying that, I would love to have better hardware on a Nintendo console.

I disagree with the statement that the Wii 2 will flop if it doesn't have super high processing power. Nintendo has never been concerned with having the best graphics on their games, and they have always been on top.
I think that the next Wii will have to surpass the type of tech used on the PS3/360 in order to survive. If they can manage to do that AND be released first it may just out-do both systems.
Sony and Nintendo should team up. Sony makes the hardware and gets the money from that, they both share money from multiplatform titles, nintendo gets money from games like mario, zelda, and sony gets money from games like uncharted, killzone, etc... That would be the ultimate console, sony and nintendo would not lose anything.

To hell with Wii 2. I want Nintendo to make a brand new console not a crappy upgraded Wii. The only way I'm buying a new console from Nintendo is the graphics need to look a million times better than the PS3 and 360 and they need more mature games with better online play. I want to see Mirrors Edge 2 running on the new Frostbite 2.0 engine. If Nintendo can do this and if the price is right I will be first in line to buy one.

DvD size- about 8.5 gb standard size of game- 5-7 gb + blu ray does not enhance quality in any shape or form, just increases size of storage. Not enough storage? Just add a disk 2 Blu Ray is useless unless used for movies but who needs them when we have netfix?

@crazymad63: In order to support Blu-Ray, it would have to be more powerful in order to playback the video - if it will play video, which I imagine it must or there would not a be a reason for it. Wii2 could go the way of the Saturn - coming out at a time when we don't expect it. Nintendo also talked about graphics are not everything, now they want graphics. I guess they realized they cannot get a GTA game or other hot CURRENT games.

@n0gar Well this also the next generation. Im sure by the time Sony and Microsoft moves into the next gen, Blu-ray will probably be standard. And, obviously, HD has been pretty standard for a while. I think it was definitely necessary for Nintendo to move onto a new console, the Wii was embarassingly limited. Whether Wii2 will be good, however, has yet to be seen. I hope so, i really like stuff like Zelda, but the wii was crap.

@metaitachi: I have not bought into the Wii BiiS, but from what I am seeing with this new system, I may take an interest in it. I was a very big Wii hater on the newsgroups and of course the Nintendo propagandists were out there. I always said that if they got current graphics and back to what they once had, i would buy it. It just goes to show that now graphics are everything. They used to have their people say it was the controller, well controllers don't bring HD.

@n0gar Not really. Maybe it is for you, but the main problem with the wii is the games are just shit. Obviously if they look like shit, that doesnt help, but the problem is the wii is full of gimmick, unpolished crap. If it had more games like Twilight Princess, Brawl, and SMG where the gameplay (and graphics) are a lot better and more full featured, it would be a more worthwhile system. Im hoping the switch to a controller rather than a remote will bring back better gameplay.

If Nintendo is going to release another console they will NEED to step up their game. Be real guys, as a gamer i thought the wii was fun but it was not good enough imo. If their new console can not stand up to the 360 or ps3, theres no point in making any new console. They should just stick to making DS and mario games for it.

@Marco72221 Sony is just a big Helper of Blu Ray and 3D Blu Ray but they don't own it. But the history of Nintendo and Sony,then it might be that Wii 2 will only get 25 GB while ps3 will get 50 GB up to 80 GB or as soon as Blu ray gets up to 160 GB then there will upgrade the wii 2 50 GB or 80 GB becuz Sony doesent want to loose its costumures for the next 4 years.

Gunns, while your points are correct, I think Nintendo is a lot more about it's software than it's hardware, and all the great franchises that they own, each with thousands of fans that will be 100% happy to purchase a new Nintendo console purely for those IPs. I don't think they need AMAZING graphics and power, maybe just enough to surpass the current generation of consoles (whether that be by a small or large amount). Saying that, I would love to have better hardware on a Nintendo console.

In regards to what you've said about nintendo trying to catch up i dissagre as i can't recolect nintendo ever trying to catch up , instead alwas doing things thair own way. It want be as fast as modern hig-end pcs but i bet it will be somewhere in the middle range of current generation of pc, which is already better thatn ps3 and xbox 360 anyway.

Sony and Nintendo should team up. Sony makes the hardware and gets the money from that, they both share money from multiplatform titles, nintendo gets money from games like mario, zelda, and sony gets money from games like uncharted, killzone, etc... To hell with Wii 2. I want Nintendo to make a brand new console not a crappy upgraded Wii. The only way I'm buying a new console from Nintendo is the graphics need to look a million times better than the PS3 and 360 and they need more mature games with better online play. I want to see Mirrors Edge 2 running on the new Frostbite 2.0 engine. If Nintendo can do this and if the price is right I will be first in line to buy one.
