  • ABBA *is* wonderful, as are your videos, sir! Thanks for the work you put into these restorations.

  • @goldbergje,

Thank you, my friend. I have a lot of fun making these videos.

It was good to have you here. Please do come back.

    Regards,

    John

  • WOW John, I have a lot of catching up with your vids. For some reason, they are not coming up under my sub's vids with this crazy new YT change. Um missing many of my sib's vids now, and only crap that I am not interested in comes up.

So what was the mystery fix to make is blast out the neighbor's windows? I'll bet it was the himulator?

  • @umajunkcollector,

It's about time you showed up, old bean. Thought you croaked or something. :-)

All I had to do was replace a resistor with a straight wire. Walla, the volume jumped right up. The unit is now back in the hands of the owner and he's very happy with the results.

    Regards,

    John

  • Nice restoration, as for the song, it was featured in the movie "Mamma Mia!". I love "Mamma Mia!" a lot because of the song used in the movie with Meryll Streep. Great movie, I would love to watch it again.

  • John, What did Norm Leal tell you to do to make the volume louder? I like ABBA, too. I didn't think it was possible for someone who liked country to like ABBA, but what do I know? Great video. Keep them videos coming, Tom

  • Hello John,

    From the Netherlands; Thumb up!

I very much like your way of restoring old radio's. Your videos are a good learning proces for me. I very much appreciate the way you explain the things you do. Thanks a lot.

    Regards,

    Jan.

  • @Scheltes,

    Jan,

Thank you very much, sir. I'm glad the vids are helping. Just keep in mind the my way is not the only way, so always be on the lookout for better methods.

    Please drop in again.

    Regards,

    John

  • Wonderful job John...And yes I like ABBA too !...Thank you for sharing..and the link...Tec

  • @tectalabyss,

My pleasure, Tec. Another ABBA fan. :-)

    Regards,

    John

  • @rich6955

    Rich,

Norm told me to substitute a wire for R10, or simply jump across it. I did the substitution. I had previously thought about bypassing that resistor, but wasn't sure it would do the job. So not wanting my ego to get in the way...I asked the expert. As always, Norm had the answer.

The schematic is here. You might have to put the url back together before cutting and pasting.:

    nostalgia air .org/PagesByModel/204/M0025204. pdf

    Regards,

    John

  • @joernone Hi John, That is sure some substitution. If the schematic is correct, it tells us R10 = 470M-ohm. It is great to hear Norm's thoughts. However on your particular turntable, did you first, at least try and substitute a 500M or greater pot(entiometer) and just dial down its resistance to see if it made an improvement to volume?

  • @hedwig85

You might be thinking 470M is meg ohms. It's actually k-ohms. On the old schematics a capital M was used for kilo.

I'm done with the Zenith. It's working fine and will hopefully be handed back to the owner later this month. It's time to move on.

    Regards,

    John

  • Congratulations, John. You did a great job on that system. Thanks for posting all the videos!

    David

  • @dlutkins9,

    @dlutkins9

Thanks for hanging with me. As long as folks say they're getting at least something out of it, I'll keep the vids chugging along. Youtube is a lot of fun.

    See you next time.

    Regards,

    John

  • its nice to know there are still people out there like you John who are methodical in their approach to correctly restore/repair devices...not many left who actually care about what they do. I love your video's and this was an excellent way to end the series. and Many thanks. from SW Missouri....

  • @Barakuda318,

SW Missouri?...why, you're from right outside. It's always good to hear from a neighbor.

Thank you for the kind comments. It really is much appreciated.

    Please drop in again.

    Regards,

    John

  • I like ABBA too, and it sure is interesting to hear them playing on a brilliantly restored pre-war radio!

  • @vwestlife,

You know...I think ABBA would sound great on a hand-cranked turntable. :-)

Thanks for continuing to follow along. It's always good having you here.

    Regards,

    John

  • Now THATS the way to finish this series, John! What a satisfying moment that must have been for you to fire that baby up and play some ABBA! If that fellow John isnt happy with his radio now, He would have to be crazy! Once again, Thank you so much for these AND all your videos! I'll say it again, You're like a welcome friend stopping by for a visit! Best regards to you, Sir!

    Art

  • @DrOlds100,

Thanks, Art. I think John and his daughter will be satisfied with the result, but I'm more concerned about the daughter, as John himself is more into classic cars, Mustangs in particular. I understand he has a bright red Stang all souped up and looking good.

I'm glad to provide a little entertainment now and then.

Many thank fors the very kind words.

    Regards,

    John

  • John, Thanks for responding to my question. No, both grandkids have expressed interest (one six and one eleven) and I think it would be good to keep them occupied and out of trouble!

    Stan

  • @laredostan,

I'm glad your grandkids express an interest in Karate. It's a tremendous character builder. Our grandson, John, started at 4 1/2 years old. One day his parents walked him by a room in the gym where a Karate class was taking place. He was mesmorized by the students kicking and punching, and began begging to learn Karate. He's now a 2-degree black belt and 9-time Arkansas State champion for his age group...and straight A student. As I said: Character builder.

    Regards,

    John

  • You're a man of character! The world needs more men like you. AAA+++ Great video.

  • @ncautoman57,

Such good words. Hope I can live up to them.

    Thank you, my friend.

    Regards,

    John

  • You should of filmed yourself rejoicing to the completion of the job with Abba :)

    Great job!!!

    Penn

  • @Penn0920,

Before heading off to work this afternoon, wifey and I listened to a few of our favorite old albums on this radio. They sounded great. There's nothing like tubes. I believe the owners, John and his daughter, will be satisfied with the repair and restoration results. Sure hope so.

    Thanks for stopping in again.

    Regards,

    John

  • ABBA dabba do! Thanks John. Superb repair / recondition / restoration!

  • @Tobinindustrial,

Thanks. I don't know if the restoration was all that great, but the unit looks and sounds much better than before it arrived.

Thanks for being here. Please return as time permits.

    Regards,

    John

  • Oooh good bit of ABBA! I was not expecting that John! Excellent job with all of your projects. Keep up the good work!

    Jonathan

  • @jssawyer1993,

    Jonathan,

Thank you, sir. I keep trying harder. I glad you approve.

    Regards,

    John

  • Enjoyed the video John, by the way, can you give me a hint as to which vid your Grandson's karote tournament may be? I wanted mine to see it!

    Stan

  • @laredostan,

    Thanks, Stan.

My grandson's Karate tournament weapons competition highlights are in this vid. Is your grandson involved with Karate? It's a very cool sport:

1941 Zenith Model 6-S-597 Vintage Radio (Part 11).

    Regards,

    John

  • I agree with you 100%, John. I about jumped up and said "Yeah" when Dancing Queen started. ABBA was the greatest pop/disco groups of the '70s. (And Agnetha and Anni-Frid weren't bad to look at either!) :-p

  • @MrHarveyluke,

    Harvey,

No group was better than ABBA. It broke my heart when they split up. And you're right, the girls were A-one. Unfortunately, in later years it seems that Agnetha sort went of the deep end, becoming very reclusive...talking more with horses than with people Additional sadness for me.

    Thanks for coming.

    Regards,

    John
