@airforceonedown.You can only play so fast using heel down. You might be the fastest heel down player in the world, but I guarantee there will be people who can play faster heel up. It's simply because when you're playing heel down your ankle muscles are restricted to a point.
@maS10045.Playing with a metronome will help you keep time, but it won't make you faster. The only thing that will help you play faster is fluctuating in and out of speeds you don't usually play.Check out George Kollias.
I play heel up, but but I barly use my legs, It is mostly a anckle motion with my legs barly moving, you could say they are twitching, and I dont no how to slow that down at all, I cant find a slow technique that is comfortable for me, or that I can do comfortably, even just using my legs it feels awkward, But if I ever want to play fast I cant have my ball of my foot on the bottom of the pedel, and using a leg and ancle twitching motion, Any advice?
You have to use the bigger, slower muscles to play slower parts, it's just how the body works. If you play double bass from like 100 bpm and gradually increase your speed, you should be starting out using a lot of your legs, because you have more control with them at slower speeds. As you increase, your legs should move less and your ankles eventually end up being the main thing moving. Again, it's just how the body works.
it depends on what works best for u, theres no right or wrong in pedal method, and for the guy who said you only gain speed with heel up...WRONG.... im sure your familliar with travis smith of trivium, well he plays heel down, so there ya go, thanks for the vid bra!
i practise alot with a metronome but i dnt seem 2 b gettin anyfaster, i feel uncomfortable wen i sit high so i sit bit lower and my left foot goes like behind my knee sorta cuz jus feel comfortable. but i dunno why i dnt seem 2 b gettin any better.
when you say neutrel does mean like pedals at a 45 degree angle from the ground and bass head? and also how long do you think it takes 2 get so fluent at double kick?
one thing that i find REALLY helps me, mentally, is say... play 8th note triplets on your right hand, and play 8th notes on your left hand, and 16th notes on the double bass, its hard to do at first, but... its weird
ive been playing drums for about 4 years now... and iv never really taken lessons iv always just taught myself. one thing i really love to do, for anyone out there that cares, is throw a triplet with the kicks down as close to a snare tap or a symbol hit as possible... somthing for noobs to try i guess :)
Thanks man, and you're right, too many kids start out with all their stuff like the pros. You have to start at a neutral point and then from their develop tastes and what not.
i know you said you are self taught in other videos, as am i. ive been playing for about a year and a half now and im curious on the progress i've made.
i used to get so discouraged when i heard slipknot x.x and now its like...slipknot really isnt much compared to my current biggest influence (behemoth) Inferno is a BEAST. i can only play one song by them and its still pretty sloppy lol.
fuckk man can u make a video on how exactly u kick the pedals cause i think im doing it wrong

Its not so fast cuz Ur not usin only ankle. Dont anything but ankle - its the key of fast double bass. This is advice of G. Kollias himself.

how long did it take for u become excellent at the double kick?
oldman10 3 years ago
Umm, it took me quite a while to get where I'm at. Probly a good 2 years to get good at it. It really takes time, practice, and consistency.

i like how you mentiond the joey thing.
too many people out there think they can start out at high spring tension because the pros can. when it obviously doesnt work that way.
great vid,and good tips.
