Oh, I have another one. I'm not sure if anyone know this, but Child in Time by Deep Purple(The drum and guitar breakdown before the long solo starts) sounds like Homecoming by Green Day(The last part before the song ends).
And a Green Day album rumored to be released in October this year!
maybe in chords but comon' we all hear different sounds and waves this is good but i don't get the meaning of the video.. anyway long live to GREEN DAY YEAH!
Saying that music is being ripped off is like saying spider man is a rip off of super man. yes there will be similarities, but most of the time it's inspiration or just coincidence.
I didn't get the first two comparisons, but "Little Girl" and "Misery" sound so much alike. And "Last Night On Earth" has always made me think of The Beatles.
Green day has their own unique style. I wouldn't say their ripping themselves off though. They're just chord progressions anyway, and most of the bands they "ripped off" were just part of Billies wide variety of influences. Misery and viva la gloria? WTF? Not even close, Although there has been a few times they have came a little too close.
They get inspiration from some of the oldie bands...there's a difference.
Billie Joe has named bands that inspire him: The Clash, Queen, The Who, AC/DC, The Ramones, The Beatles.
If bands didn't have other bands that inspired them, then there would be no music. I am pretty sure the bands i just listed were inspired by other bands and musicians too.
Hey guys, stop giving shit to GD and the person who was putting this together, There's only so many chord sequences and tunes to go around. Least GD ripped themselves off, unlike Avril Lavigne...
well you got to be influenced by someone. it was funny because i showed my grandma the song "last night on earth" she doesn't know green day at all and she said "who is this? John Lennon?"
who cares about the comparisons? Most of the similarities are between green day songs so it's normal. The only one you would recognise without beeing a musician is Deadbeat Holiday and American ulogy.
Bravo for the video, but mainly all that matters is that Green Day kicks fucking ass!! Billie Joe for ever :))
Nunca lo repetiré porque me gusta Green Day muchísimo, al igual que AC/DC, pero see the light tiene hasta el mismo tempo!, incluso, fue tan así, que canté You Shook Me All Night Long, como iba a decir: esa era descaradamente igual. // Never will repeat it because I like Green Day a lot, like AC / DC, but to see the light has the same tempo! Even went so well, I sang You Shook Me All Night Long, as he would say that was as blatantly.
note that these are comparaisons made by MUSICIAN... you might think it don't sound the same, it's ok, bue please when you comment, try to know what you're talking about! ;)
i just laugh at all videos, showing 'how bands rip others or themselves'. Some notes sometimes coincide, so what? Green Day was playing ac/dc shook me all night long so nothing astonishing about 'see the light' coincidence to it. It's just a matter of inspiration, thats normal I think.
I was thinking about making a video like this, but you beat me to it. To me, 21st Century Breakdown was blatantly a more rock 'n' roll oriented album, but I also heard a lot of inspirations from earlier songs.
I WISH I COULD DISLIKE THIS MORE THEN ONCE... of course there music is going to sounds similar!!! all bands music sounds similar well because its the same people making the music >.>
All right. Billie Joe is collecting inspiration from other songs, from other bands, or their own. What's the problem? Green Day fuckin' rocks anyway! <3
I'm one of Green Day's biggest fans but I have to admit when I first heard the album, I immediately heard the similarities between 1) Horshshoes and Hand Grenades and Main Offender by the Hives 2) The Static Age and Church On Sunday 3) See The Light and You Shook Me All Night Long by ACDC
The beginning of See The Light is much more like Born In The USA, but still, a few chords being the same is not rip off, the melody has to be the same or the chord progression of at least 5 chords, that is, 5 chords played in the same exact order.
Listen to "Know your enemy" and "me against the world", listen to the drums. They kinda sound the same. But the guitars are way different. "Me against the world" is in Drop D and "Know your enemy" is in standard. Their rythym is also different, its just the drums that kinda sound the same.
I don't agree with all of your comparisons but i have to say some of them are really right, like Prostetic Head/Horseshoes&HG, Static Age/Church On Sunday etc.. Yet i don't think In My Life/Last Night on Earth or VLG(Little Girl)/Peacemaker and a few others look like each other... but that's just what I think ;) Good point for some of the songs though!
by the song do da da if billie sing but now your stuck with me stuck with me stuck with me then the part of i cant seen being in the video (or something like that) in the static age likes of it came after the part with stuck with me
The guitar-part after first chorus in Jesus of Suburbia is exactly the same as the chorus in 21st. century breakdown, only tuned down and with regular chords
The majority of the similarities that you pointed out are VERY slight. Not very noticeable or noteworthy at all. Lots of them are just similar in the style or type of song, not the melodies or anything else. Not enough to be interesting.
i disagree with a lot of these, it not as bad as some artists- and with their own songs it dont matter if it sounds similar to their own! also wiith peacemaker and little girl its the whole point as its like a story in the album that why they next to each other
Idiots. Green day had this riff in their song prosthetic head from 1997 in the album nimrod already. So if you wanna talk, the hives stole it from them. remember, "PROSTHETIC HEAD- NIMROD- 1997"
I also disagree with a lot of these.. they don't sound similar. And i am in NO way defending their originality because frankly to me, they aren't except for a select few songs. Jesus of Suburbia is one of them... damn good song.
I'm going to posit one of the following two theories: that, @squall1729 put it, this is simply how Green Day plays: lots of power chords, and only a few musical keys to sing comfortably in, so there is inevitable overlap. The other theory is that this is intentional, as it contributes to the overall musical theme of Green Day (whatever musical theme one can find). So saying, "Oh THESE GD songs sound like these OTHER GD songs," you could sub in The Ramones for GD and come to the same conclusion.
green day rock anyway, these songs are still more close to their own past songs than other band's songs, except for see the light that it's really almost identical to shook me all night long
well, if you knew well.. this happens all the time and ur kinda comparing the songs af if they were plagiarisng but.... most of the songs compared are greenday songs with greenday songs :P hey i mean, thats just plain wierd
GREEN DAY--->Macy`s day parade GREEN DAY--->Static age (de macy's day parade, cndo dice "Then I realized what it took To tell the difference between Thieves and crooks") (de static age nada mas empezar a cantar) comprobareis que es EXACTAMENTE EL MISMO TONO GREEN DAY--->deadbeat holiday GREEN DAY--->American Eulogy (en deadbeat holiday, nada mas empezar a cantar) (en American Eulogy, minuto 0:40") Comprobareis que es EXACTAMENTE EL MISMO TONO
Waiting (Green Day) and Downtown (Petula Clark) are so close that I'm guessing it must be intentional.
Green Day's style though is so power-chordy that I wouldn't be surprised is every song overlaps with some other song out there, so their popularity is more about the performance and delivery than compositional innovation.
yeah yeah 13 notes... that's true but you forgot somthing... green day don't do music only with notes... they, and every other musician, do chords... how many chords in music? ∞
Horseshoes and Handgranades and Prosthetic Head/ See the Light and Shook me all night long!! LOL!!!!! They're very much similar!! But who cares???? =P
ok ill admit the first time i heard static age i though of church on sunday.... but there are only so many chords and so many riffs and so many notes in the world. and music has been around for how long? theres bound to be some stuff that sounds similar
sorry but who cares about the similarities? all their songs are brilliant and thats all that matters .. alot of songs sound like each other like the beginnings of Give me novacaine and fall out boys beat it but still its all great music and when i make music with my band we sound a bit like the the killers by accident so my point is that oh well never mind most songs sound like other songs
oh boy, you definitely have brain/ear troubles... it seems obvious that those parts are similar... depends of the songs you'Re talking about. I you talk about Horseshoes and Hangrenades, Static Age, See The Light... you were totally drunk, not me !
ALSO, GREENDAY´S SONG "EAST JESUS NOWHERE" REALLY SOUNDS A LOT LIKE CATCH 22 / STREETLIGHT MANIFESTOs "RIDING THE FOURTH WAVE", I HOPE YOU COULD PUT IT UP ALONG WITH THE OTHER SONGS ... THANK YOU ! ^^
you could compare "riding the fourth wave" with "welcome to paradise" by green day and maybe you do know, which one was out first... then again it sounds like some kind of traditional folk tune to me.
there is a similarity between peacemaker (from about 2:30 to 2:45 in the song) and REMs it the end of the world (anywhere after about 20 seconds into the song)
I think you have a horrible ear, because except for the Prosthetic Head/H&H, few had any similarities. The one I mentioned is based on the same SCALE, so it will have that similarity, but the rest are completely lacking in Tempo and you just seemed to "link" them through tonality and tone, but not actual scale.
Actual ripoffs would be groups like Panda, a Spanish band.
Out of all of these, Horseshoes and Handgrenades and Prosthetic Head are by far the closest. Nice obeservations by the way, there are some interesting similarities and you draw some scarily close parallels here.
ok green days new album is amazing and yes some songs do sound a lil similar but in this day and age it is really really hard to be original cause basicly everything has been done but i dont think they sound that the same like some people consider zeppelin the greatest band of all time but they had soooooooo many songs that people could say are rip offs
The music is damn near identical. Listen to the clip of American Eulogy you have here, and then Deadbeat Holiday and NGFL. NGFL and Haushinka are songs 1 and 12 respectively on Green Day's Nimrod album.
hell i know about american eulogy, you obviously didn't read the video description.... BUT What Nice Guys Finish Last and Haushinka have to do with that ?
You're half right, I didn't actually read it all the way through and DBH is at the end. My point with NGFL is that it is another song (in addition to DBH and your other ones) that sounds just like American Eulogy (in this case, the mass hysteria part). I was kind of suprised not to see it in the video.
Haushinka sounds like Horseshoes and Handgrenades, and I think guitarjunky was just pointing that out as another similarity.
Ah ! Ok ! When I get it explained, I understand ! You were talking that I should have mix AE | DBH | NGFL, knowing that the chorus of DBH is the verses of NGFL
I found a lot of similarities between their newer & older stuff, but.. those just aren't it. :\ Those aren't that similar sounding, though they may have a similar musical make up.
I think they're the best now (for me since the beginning). Agree with some of your links, I get much more similarities in phrases, meanings, stories not here
Oh, I have another one. I'm not sure if anyone know this, but Child in Time by Deep Purple(The drum and guitar breakdown before the long solo starts) sounds like Homecoming by Green Day(The last part before the song ends).

kurtcobain89 2 years ago 3
oh boy, you definitely have brain/ear troubles... it seems obvious that those parts are similar... depends of the songs you'Re talking about. I you talk about Horseshoes and Hangrenades, Static Age, See The Light... you were totally drunk, not me !
RankielGuitar 2 years ago
ALSO, GREENDAY´S SONG "EAST JESUS NOWHERE" REALLY SOUNDS A LOT LIKE CATCH 22 / STREETLIGHT MANIFESTOs "RIDING THE FOURTH WAVE", I HOPE YOU COULD PUT IT UP ALONG WITH THE OTHER SONGS ... THANK YOU ! ^^
antiamericanflag 2 years ago
Sure I will !
RankielGuitar 2 years ago
you could compare "riding the fourth wave" with "welcome to paradise" by green day and maybe you do know, which one was out first... then again it sounds like some kind of traditional folk tune to me.
fraenzchen85 2 years ago
there is a similarity between peacemaker (from about 2:30 to 2:45 in the song) and REMs it the end of the world (anywhere after about 20 seconds into the song)
strikeaviolentpose21 2 years ago
so.... yeah... what?
I would like to make two points:
1. When you compare a band to itself, there is bound to be similarities. no shit.
2. just because the drum beat is similar barely doesn't make it the same
3. Those chord progressions are common anyway
4. only, like, one or two of those sound even relatively similar

You're crazy asd

thats shit they don't even look a like, they have peaces like the static age and church on sunday but rest of m arent the same at all
niekolas 2 years ago 11
you obviously didn't hear Prosthetic Head, and it's called SIMILARITIES
RankielGuitar 2 years ago
I think you have a horrible ear, because except for the Prosthetic Head/H&H, few had any similarities. The one I mentioned is based on the same SCALE, so it will have that similarity, but the rest are completely lacking in Tempo and you just seemed to "link" them through tonality and tone, but not actual scale.
Actual ripoffs would be groups like Panda, a Spanish band.
I appreciate the effort, though.
JArrexte 2 years ago 3
this is why I wrote "similarities" instead of "the same"
RankielGuitar 2 years ago
Out of all of these, Horseshoes and Handgrenades and Prosthetic Head are by far the closest. Nice obeservations by the way, there are some interesting similarities and you draw some scarily close parallels here.

thanks :)

ok green days new album is amazing and yes some songs do sound a lil similar but in this day and age it is really really hard to be original cause basicly everything has been done but i dont think they sound that the same like some people consider zeppelin the greatest band of all time but they had soooooooo many songs that people could say are rip offs

American Eulogy=Deadbeat Holiday=Nice Guys Finish Last (Nimrod Album, same as Haushinka)
H41909 2 years ago
what Nice Guys Finish Last and Haushinka have to do with this I don't get it plz explain
RankielGuitar 2 years ago
The music is damn near identical. Listen to the clip of American Eulogy you have here, and then Deadbeat Holiday and NGFL. NGFL and Haushinka are songs 1 and 12 respectively on Green Day's Nimrod album.
H41909 2 years ago
hell i know about american eulogy, you obviously didn't read the video description.... BUT What Nice Guys Finish Last and Haushinka have to do with that ?
RankielGuitar 2 years ago
You're half right, I didn't actually read it all the way through and DBH is at the end. My point with NGFL is that it is another song (in addition to DBH and your other ones) that sounds just like American Eulogy (in this case, the mass hysteria part). I was kind of suprised not to see it in the video.
Haushinka sounds like Horseshoes and Handgrenades, and I think guitarjunky was just pointing that out as another similarity.
H41909 2 years ago
Ah ! Ok ! When I get it explained, I understand ! You were talking that I should have mix AE | DBH | NGFL, knowing that the chorus of DBH is the verses of NGFL
I'll take a look at Haushinka and HSAHG
RankielGuitar 2 years ago
You should have used Horseshoes and Hand Grenades and the end of Haushinka.

Haushinka ?

I found a lot of similarities between their newer & older stuff, but.. those just aren't it. :\ Those aren't that similar sounding, though they may have a similar musical make up.

A lot of their songs are in the same key, and they like to use a lot of the same chord progressions
itsGoboboy 2 years ago
I think they're the best now (for me since the beginning). Agree with some of your links, I get much more similarities in phrases, meanings, stories not here
