The NSX is genius in my opinion. To look at it from an enthusiasts stand point and think about the arena in which it entered, at a time when the Ferrari 348 was the "Comfortable Driving sports car." Honda said we can do better, and technologically, aesthetically, most of all reliably they did. Yes it doesn't have Ferrari racing pedigree, but what it did have was a gear box that you never had to fumble with and engine you could work on in your own garage. A drivers car that would dance if pushed.
i hate to start arguements but i just don't consider this a supercar per say. it's a sports car. its easy to drive fast, and it's balanced because its v6 is in the middle and i think thats fantastic. but it's not fast enough in my mind. supercars shouldnt be so "easy to drive" maybe i'm missing something. can someone tell me what made this car a supercar? why is it so special?
@Luvablevin yeah i agree. i talked to someone recently who used to work for honda and worked on and drove many nsx's. he said to think of it as an f1 car with a body on it. nough said
I;d buy the NSX over something as cliche and overrated as a Ferrari and Lamborghini. Any rich douche bag with deep pockets can run off and buy a Ferrari or Lambo, it takes a real car enthusiast to choose a NSX. Ferrari and Lamborghini owners just want image, NSX owners want a race track warrior that can be driven everyday with image as a bonus, but image comes last. Plus the NSX is cheaper to maintain, which means if something breaks it won't cost you your entire life savings.
@flurry Both the NSX and Z06 are awesome. Reliable, driver enthusiast prides and joys and bargain supercars. Lets not turn this into a useless flame war please.
Honda confirmed the flashy concept Next generation of NSX will be names HSC. It keeps some of the classic eyecacthing characteristics of the NSX and combines it with a more modern , slightly futuristic facelift.
Because a Honda being sold at $90K+ was ever going to sell. Basically, Honda got happy after winning a few F1s & made the NSX & throwing it out there with barely 300bhp. Now if it would have been sold for $50K w/350bhp, it would have sold like Dollar Tree products. Or for $90K, at least give it 500bhp with near matching TQ.
The car was never meant to sell to the masses. It was meant to attract people into the Acura showroom to buy Integras and Legends. With the R&D costs, aluminum and titanium components and hand built labour...the break-even price of the NSX was over $100K a unit. The 290 HP was to meet Japanese emission standards. It is still, 20 years later, one of the sexiest and best handling cars ever built. ps. The Nissan 370z meets your needs of 350hp/$50k! Hardly an NSX, is it ?!
There is no denying the greatness of the NSX. It's truly a phenomenal machine. The flagship of Honda indeed. Why buy a 370Z when the NSX is lighter, lower, & sleeker? Not a comparison, even by today's standards. The NSX also had 290bhp here in the US. This car should have had higher bhp variants, both turbocharged & N/A. Honda wouldn't have lost money on any of them. Should they bring back the NSX today, it would still be a smash hit if Honda were to play it's cards right.
Then why do they still cost alot, Vicki? The owners don't want to sell their NSX...
In the US you can get a Corvette/Muscle Car of that Era for $300/dirt cheap used or $2500 in good condition. Toyota Supras and Nissan R32s of that Era are far more expensive than that in good condition. However, no more than $25K for those even in best conditions.
A Mint condition NSX with working pop ups? $39-45K... but thats moot since the owners will never sell.
i dont care if this car isnt popular - thats what makes it special. i dont care if it only has a V6 with only 280hp - thats what makes i nimble. i dont care if people say it looks like a ferrari - thats what makes haters look like idiots. i would have this over any european supersport ever
@sootyferrari65 Nisaan GTR is known as a super car killer which it is and you can get one for £50,000 which aint much in this day and age. The NSX back in the 90s cost £60,000 which was a hell of alot for a car tagged as Japans attempt in making a super car
@mmcsafi They were also a bit that Japanese Ferrari clone and many reviewers complained that it was too easy to drive. For a car like the Skyline GTR 280 hp doesn't sound like too little (and most tune them for more), but when compared to a Ferrari like the NSX was it can seem like too little.
Real shame because it's such a great handling car with an awesome engine sound. Think reviewers found it a bit too good.
this car is so much fun to drive. the prrrr sound behind your ear. the low low seating with excellent visibility. the ease of driving. the splendid interior ergonomics. its the perfect sports car. sad to see it gone. i would buy it when i'm rich just to drive it around town.
Lexus, Accords, Camry, , etc yes Americans think about practical cars but performance is all about perception and horsepower.....not real performance. This is changing somewhat as the Z06 and ZR1 are finally offering good handling to go with all that power. But their interiors and build quality is still not there.
I mean Americans don't think. They buy was is popular --- I'm talking about sport cars. UK made the NSX 2002 type r car of the year. This car ran the ring in 7:56 sec with only 290hp and did 12.5-12.8 1/4 times. Its weight is 2800 pounds. But it never made it to American because american don't want true performance unless it has mucho horsepower. Ask a race car driver and they will tell you a stiff light car with great aero and balance is the greatest driver car you can have.
@cptnsx now you must ask yourself why would we americans want all that horespower? why would we apparently spit in the face of anyone who even suggested a v6? I'll tell you why it's because our idea of a track has no curves it's a quarter mile long and we burn rubber getting to the other side so how do you get there quickest? you gut a car stoke the motor and put the pedal to the mother fuckin metal...oh and twin turbos with a couple of superchargers thrown in for good measure don't hurt
I have a 1992 NSX with only 65K miles with lower stiffer springs, upgraded sway bars, transmission rebuilt to NSX-R specs plus an intercooled 500hp supercharger. I get looks and pictures taken all the time. Plus I have taken the car to track and trapped at 121 (in 3500 DA). The car can handle this power all day long doesn't need a TCS. No rattles, no squeaks and the driving position is the best. Honda sat on a goldmine. It should have evolved like the 911. Minor changes upgrade power.
I disagree 60-80K was the right . The materials and build quality justify that. The problem was perception. Americans love horsepower. When it can out with 270hp that was too low even with the great performance times (for that era). It should have had 300hp. Then in 1997 it should have gotten the 2002 outer update with a 3.5L engine making at least 350hp. In 2002 it should have had another minor update (plus interior) and a 3.8L iVTEC 9K redline and 400hp. That would have sold.
@NakedSnakeBlGBOSS The GT-R and NSX are polar opposites, man, in almost every single way. No one who really likes the NSX and has a understanding of why would like the GT-R. Not only that, the GT-R was the NSX's mortal enemy throughout the 280ps age and the car the first NSX-R had to shit on to claim title of fastest JDM in 92. The new GT-R has evolved even further away. The only thing that car is super at is bringing absurd amounts of speed to people who shouldn't be going that fast.
In a way, you are quite convincing. In fact, somehow, when NSX succeeded on appealing to the high profile figures in Hollywood and so on, GT-R failed to do so. Why do you think it is?
I wouldn't be surprised if Honda was aiming to be the fastest with their NSX back in the days, but really, I prefer GT-R still.
and is restricting testosterone flow of a monster next gen v10 supercar and injecting some estrogen in their lineup to develop a safer, far less intimidating sports car. i guess nissan and lexus wont be getting any competition from honda in the super car category, tisk tisk honda, still hope it comes out good, but we'll all know no matter how good it comes out, it couldve been a lot better
i apologize for my previous comment, it was based on older knowledge and with more research ive found that acura/honda have ditched the 550hp v10 nsx project and has opted to develop a hybrid sports car instead for production though u can still see the v10 beast on the circuit but, sadly, not the roads. yes, the car industry's economic plummet has honda by the nuts
little do they know that they'd be developing another NSX though its being developed by hondas big brother, acura, though by new design, its unrecognizable as an NSX. i hope it kicks ass anyways and gets the respect it deserves though i always thought it was always a little overpriced, but price aside, still a japanese legend that still kicks ass on the circuit as much as it does on the road =)
Fifth gear is bertter than Top Gear . Top gear was so biased as expensive european car as good and the other are sucks. What do you thinkg about Jeremy Clarkson? I wonder why such a man who have no clue about a car can talk so bullshit could selected as a presenter. his comment is wrong and discriminating and have strong prejudice. and I wonder track time of the top gear is not true.
I agree with the comments below. Toyota and Honda's hatred for sports cars is annoying. Celica and MR-2 gone!. No replacement for Prelude or S2000. The front-engined (blasphemy) NSX replacement has been canceled.
maybe toyota is getting it (back) my brother had a AE86) but I believe Honda has thrown in the towel. but its their own fault. it's like some in mgmt that works high up hates performance or chooses not to listen to what their customers want. Porsche has it right esp with the 911. Minor changes and continuous power upgrades plus lightweight driver focus models (plus a turbo class). What if a NSX and S2000 turbo came out as well in addition to type R models. All bases covered.
@kuel "Don't see the NSX as a super car ??" <-- Mate, Ayrton Senna will be spinning in his grave if he reads your comment. Please do some research ... =___=
@metraus u dont even get what i was trying to say, im telling the reviewers to not see it as a SUPERCAR but to see it as a sports car, cuase they're comparing it to ferraris and lambos etc, personally i see it as a wonderful sports car as well but no where near the "supercar" name........ but then again i dont see a gtr's, or porsche 911's (except the turbo) as "supercars" either, personal preference, and i did my research douchebag
@kuel Oh my, ROFL !!! Well, I don't have much to say to an ignorant kid who has no idea about NSX or GTR35. Call me whatever you want because I think your replies will entertain me from this point :-D
@metraus hhhmmm im ignorant because im giving my opinion based on what i kno and not basing it off of what others say... totally makes sense =), and calling me a kid? well at least im OLD enough to afford a nsx?
and maybe because i have driven a few of these cars in my life so i can actually GIVE a opinion on it. but hey what do i kno, im just a ignorant kid that likes to entertain =/
@kuel You can afford a NSX ? Ok, that means you fully understand its "Ownership Cost", right ? I ask you this question because quite a few buyers don't research it enough before they purchase their desired sports/super cars. Some of them will cost A WAY MORE than the car price itself and it's amazing to see how many people don't realize this. There was a time I seriously considered to own a NSX but the O/C made me to get other cars ... You wil pay more for something more exclusive, simple !
@kuel Just a sports car? Unfortunately, when you develop the first all- aluminum body and engine, as well as the first commercial vtec production car...how car you call it anything other than a supercar? Better performance than its competition as well !
I saw a red Acura NSX today. I don't understand why it was discontinued. It could (and still can) compete with Cayman's and Evora's. Just imagine what Honda could produce if they gave the NSX another go.
@marshknute buyers cant justify the price tag for the car. $70,000 for a car that only makes 270hp. if the car had at least 350hp to 400hp, that thing would have sold like hot cakes.
@VpY22 You are 100% correct. The first thing someone asks about a car that looks like a NSX is how much horsepower. When you say 270, its over. Saying stuff like power-to-weight ration this, gear torque multiplication that, only looks like an excuse. My 1992 NSX has 500hp with the intercooled supercharger and in reality is to fast (122-124 traps in good DA). But all I have to say is 500hp.....no more questions are asked.
i agree with what they said at the end, when ever you see someone in an nsx, they know exactly what they're up to. unlike when ever you see someone in a ferrari, usually some douche with a lot of money.
first off you miss my point entirely, the TL is a fucking 4 door sedan, not a sports car. who cares about "fast". second the rsx sold great, when they discontinued it, they got such a outcry they put in another run of production to satisfy the consumers. acura does not like the idea of a "cheap" or "young persons" car in there line up, they want to be known as a luxury company.
@sausagenmuff What about the Honda Accord Coupe? It has two doors. Does that make it a sports car? Maybe Honda should take up the RSX then. What's your case that the RSX is a sports car? What about the Prelude? Is that a sports car? What about the M5 or the CTS-V? There's always the Civic.
I would take this over a ferrari anyday

For a German, you don't seem to know much about cars.

@Howie262 id buy a NSX over a ferrari any day. At least it wouldn't leave me stranded on the side of the road.

@Howie262 Why, so they can overcharge you for an unreliable car that no one can afford?

@Howie262 you realize the McLaren f1 designer looked at the NSX as a benchmark when making the F1......just sayin'

and is restricting testosterone flow of a monster next gen v10 supercar and injecting some estrogen in their lineup to develop a safer, far less intimidating sports car. i guess nissan and lexus wont be getting any competition from honda in the super car category, tisk tisk honda, still hope it comes out good, but we'll all know no matter how good it comes out, it couldve been a lot better
joedahoe428 1 year ago
i apologize for my previous comment, it was based on older knowledge and with more research ive found that acura/honda have ditched the 550hp v10 nsx project and has opted to develop a hybrid sports car instead for production though u can still see the v10 beast on the circuit but, sadly, not the roads. yes, the car industry's economic plummet has honda by the nuts
joedahoe428 1 year ago
little do they know that they'd be developing another NSX though its being developed by hondas big brother, acura, though by new design, its unrecognizable as an NSX. i hope it kicks ass anyways and gets the respect it deserves though i always thought it was always a little overpriced, but price aside, still a japanese legend that still kicks ass on the circuit as much as it does on the road =)
joedahoe428 1 year ago
Fifth gear is bertter than Top Gear . Top gear was so biased as expensive european car as good and the other are sucks. What do you thinkg about Jeremy Clarkson? I wonder why such a man who have no clue about a car can talk so bullshit could selected as a presenter. his comment is wrong and discriminating and have strong prejudice. and I wonder track time of the top gear is not true.

I agree with the comments below. Toyota and Honda's hatred for sports cars is annoying. Celica and MR-2 gone!. No replacement for Prelude or S2000. The front-engined (blasphemy) NSX replacement has been canceled.
ultimateguitar553 1 year ago
@ultimateguitar553 Who's to blame? Why would they make cars that nobody buys?
thingsdemystified 1 year ago
maybe toyota is getting it (back) my brother had a AE86) but I believe Honda has thrown in the towel. but its their own fault. it's like some in mgmt that works high up hates performance or chooses not to listen to what their customers want.

metraus 1 year ago
@metraus u dont even get what i was trying to say, im telling the reviewers to not see it as a SUPERCAR but to see it as a sports car, cuase they're comparing it to ferraris and lambos etc, personally i see it as a wonderful sports car as well but no where near the "supercar" name........ but then again i dont see a gtr's, or porsche 911's (except the turbo) as "supercars" either, personal preference, and i did my research douchebag
kuel 1 year ago
@kuel Oh my, ROFL !!! Well, I don't have much to say to an ignorant kid who has no idea about NSX or GTR35. Call me whatever you want because I think your replies will entertain me from this point :-D
metraus 1 year ago
@metraus hhhmmm im ignorant because im giving my opinion based on what i kno and not basing it off of what others say... totally makes sense =), and calling me a kid? well at least im OLD enough to afford a nsx?
and maybe because i have driven a few of these cars in my life so i can actually GIVE a opinion on it. but hey what do i kno, im just a ignorant kid that likes to entertain =/
kuel 1 year ago
@kuel You can afford a NSX ? Ok, that means you fully understand its "Ownership Cost", right ? I ask you this question because quite a few buyers don't research it enough before they purchase their desired sports/super cars. Some of them will cost A WAY MORE than the car price itself and it's amazing to see how many people don't realize this. There was a time I seriously considered to own a NSX but the O/C made me to get other cars ... You wil pay more for something more exclusive, simple !
metraus 1 year ago
@metraus What kind of ownership costs are associated with the NSX?
thingsdemystified 1 year ago
@kuel Do you know what the design goals of the NSX were from the beginning? What car it was targetted to beat/match?
thingsdemystified 1 year ago
@kuel Just a sports car? Unfortunately, when you develop the first all- aluminum body and engine, as well as the first commercial vtec production car...how car you call it anything other than a supercar? Better performance than its competition as well !

I saw a red Acura NSX today. I don't understand why it was discontinued. It could (and still can) compete with Cayman's and Evora's. Just imagine what Honda could produce if they gave the NSX another go.
marshknute 1 year ago
@marshknute buyers cant justify the price tag for the car. $70,000 for a car that only makes 270hp. if the car had at least 350hp to 400hp, that thing would have sold like hot cakes.
VpY22 1 year ago
@VpY22 You are 100% correct. The first thing someone asks about a car that looks like a NSX is how much horsepower. When you say 270, its over. Saying stuff like power-to-weight ration this, gear torque multiplication that, only looks like an excuse. My 1992 NSX has 500hp with the intercooled supercharger and in reality is to fast (122-124 traps in good DA). But all I have to say is 500hp.....no more questions are asked.

if the NSX would have been $40 grand it would have sold like crazy. And I too always loved Harvey's NSX in Pulp!
diamonddollarday 1 year ago
@diamonddollarday yep. honda should have either lowered the price tag, or raised the hp.
VpY22 1 year ago
i agree with what they said at the end, when ever you see someone in an nsx, they know exactly what they're up to. unlike when ever you see someone in a ferrari, usually some douche with a lot of money.

sausagenmuff 1 year ago
@sausagenmuff The TL isn't slow. They stopped making those cars because no one buys them.
thingsdemystified 1 year ago
@thingsdemystified
first off you miss my point entirely, the TL is a fucking 4 door sedan, not a sports car. who cares about "fast". second the rsx sold great, when they discontinued it, they got such a outcry they put in another run of production to satisfy the consumers. acura does not like the idea of a "cheap" or "young persons" car in there line up, they want to be known as a luxury company.
sausagenmuff 1 year ago
@sausagenmuff What about the Honda Accord Coupe? It has two doors. Does that make it a sports car? Maybe Honda should take up the RSX then. What's your case that the RSX is a sports car? What about the Prelude? Is that a sports car? What about the M5 or the CTS-V? There's always the Civic.
