  • Ar fheabhas ar fad. An bheirt ar fheabhas

  • Genious!

  • Bravo for Polenzani! But in this duet I love Keenlyside's performance. He sounds perfect and powerful, Listen carefully also at 2:19 to his voice!

  • FINALLY a tenor that understands that the Bb at 02:19 is piano ! :)

  • @Emajor7b5 I like the piano Bb too, but technically the score does say forte every time that Bb is there.

  • @Emajor7b5 Wow. As a tenor myself (having never sung the piece or studied it) I didn't even realize that was a Bb. I didn't realize it got that high until the obvious bit at the end.

  • What a treasured pairing. Magnificent.

  • This is super. Normally I can't stand to hear Keenlyside if I can see him, whether in person, on video or in HD, but here he's just fine. (Maybe in concert, no 'acting'?) Usually this duet is not well balanced between the singers, but this version is. Nice tenor!

  • they are so, good.... future goal :)

  • The Metropolitan Opera House in New York City is blessed to have both of

these singers on their rooster. I saw Matthew Polenzani in "Don Pasquale"

on Saturday and he has such a sweet lyric tenor voice . Simon Keenylside

is also a fine singer. Bravo for this duet.

  • @Fegen on their rooster??? lol

    loved the duet

  • @kokofied Thanks for pointing out my error. I feel so stupid. I meant roster.

"singers on their rooster" that is so funny. Ha! Ha!

  • Keenlyside doesnt have a huge voice, but it resonates impeccably. love it.

  • my god ,tenor not schön ,sehr musikalisch ,aber so viel hals beim singen ,und ehrlich gesagt ,keine besondere stimme.....,simon schön ,wie immer

  • I can't believe thats Simon Keenlyside! Somebody please go watch the video where he sings "Deh Vieni Alla Finestra", He looks so different!

  • Bravo Bravo!!!!!

  • Yes, yes, it's quite beautiful. But when is someone going to mention the homosexual overtones of this duet? Since when do two men prefer to give up their chase of a beautiful woman in order to preserve their friendship?

    Stuart

  • @heasmans all day. bros before hoes.

  • Does somebody know know where or how is possible to get a recording of Simon Keenlyside´s Eugen Onegin ? Thank you for your help.

  • the singing is EXCELLENT. but can they BOTH please go get their suits fitted? it hurts me.

  • No Hamlet is not bland and yes Simon K has paid his due. His fame and recognition are well deserved. And his French is PERFECT. As a French national, I have never heard such level of perfection in singing my native language by a foreigner.. I understand his German is brilliant too. Chapeau bas, Monsieur Keenlyside. And such virility too..

  • Anche la sua pronuncia italiana è eccellente!

His italian pronunciation is excellent too!

  • @chiaranotte They are singing in French!

  • I love Matthew's Voice!!! He blows Roberto Alagna out of the water!! Unlike Alanga he's a smart singer who knows his limits. He's not obsessed with being the next Pavarotti, he's obsessed with being an excellent singer.

  • @Matthewcoakley08 ur being ridiculous they are both great singers.

  • @LoudFast1234 Im not saying Alanga isn't a great singer, he was at one point but he is loosing it fast because he sings things that are clearly beyond his limits.

  • Well, I had *heard* that Hamlet is bland. I saw it on Saturday and "bland" is the last word I would use. "Riveting" more like, certainly when performed with such commitment and energy. SK lived up to his reputation. He'll be in next year's HD Don Carlo.

  • Pedomano wrote: "He is certainly the handsomest of the new crop of baritones..." He's not new. He was born in 1959 and he made his debut in 1987. "-- very sexy with a beautiful voice." Oh, yes!!! HD cinecast of "Hamlet" from the Met on March 27th. I imagine he will breathe some life into a rather bland opera. Really looking forward to it.

  • yes, he is so handsome :-)) i mean Simon.

he was great in MET HD Live Hamlet:-)

  • he breathed lots of life :-) in hamlet , did you see it?

  • he doesnt look like somebody born in 1959.

my brother was born in 1960 and he looked much younger.

  • Simon Keenlyside FTW

  • Would be great without the lousy tenor.

  • These guys are just great. Love how the tenor just floats the b flat

  • Both fabulous. Keenlyside is especially eloquent.

  • Wow!

  • This is such a finely placed, remarkably assured effort, in concert, of two of the world's great vocal technichians. Bravo, indeed!

  • very good singing

  • I love Simon! He is certainly the handsomest of the new crop of baritones - very sexy with a beautiful voice.

  • i love Simon too - there are plenty of very handsome baritones (Gunn, ... not to mention 'our' Teddy Tahu [Bare] Rhodes, etc.) - Simon sings the best

  • absolutely yes :) The Hugh Jackman of baritones, no? :D

  • i watcher him yesterday and i thought he looks like david thewlis:-)

  • Bravi!!they are amazing!!

  • braviiiiiiiii!

  • ok...soooo does anyone else hear Polenzani at 2:19? Gorgeous

  • indeed...

  • @Grandtenore : what an apparent easyness in these high notes !!, smooth and and soft increase. I do agree !

  • Yes, that is the best way to sing that Bb, many tenors should learn

  • @Grandtenore agreed! Amazing!

  • absolutely wonderful

  • WOW... absolutely stunning... makes you wish they were singing for you and fighting over you! lol *sigh*

  • Completely WONDERFUL :-)

  • Wonderful, both of them. Bravissimi!

  • If you listen with your eyes shut, you will hear one of the loveliest of renditions available here. Just listen. It will rip your heart out.

  • We returned them the illusion of taking The Essence!!!

    Bravo!!! Bravissimi!!!

  • Noticing how much I really REALLY ike the IU singers right now.

  • if someone knows him, please tell him to get a web site!

  • keenlyside has a very good website

  • Yes I know but Matthew prefers to stay more private, I assume. It's hard to track what he is doing though I think I have a handle on it now.

  • Heavenly.

  • I loooovvvvvvveeeeeee this video!

  • Simon Kennlyside and Matthew Polanzani are fantastic singers. Matthew is still so young and achieving so much. Simon is a bit older, but he has done incredible things and he continues with great roles. Also, I met them both in person at the end of their respective performances. And they are amazing human beings, so warm and nice gentlemen. They are just great!

  • I don´t think so really. His movementes are about being uncomfortable on stage without a character, and being Simon K.. It's normal in many artist to be shy when they are not in custum. I think this is the case about Simon.

  • You are absolutely right on. If you watch him in character (Don and Papageno in particular) his movement is all in character.

  • This is truly wonderful. For those of you who love Simon's singing, check out his recording of Schumann's Ballade der Harfner, op. 98 a-2. It is out of this world.

  • OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

That's all I have to say.

(Simon is one of my favorite baritones, I met Matthew and he's awesome, and this is one of my favorite pieces!)

  • So beautiful! (The guys and the music:) )

  • Polenzani is really wonderful. Look up his "danny Boy" it is meltingly beautiful

  • Polenzani is awesome! He has been in so many different productions at the met but his David in Meistersinger has to be my favorite.

  • Simon has such a beautiful voice and style.

  • One of my favorite baritones singing today. One of my idols in my study of voice.
