A distinction has to be made between "secretive" which implies wrongdoing, & "secret" which simply means private. Freemasons are private citizens who believe in all peoples' right to privacy.

Lucifer is not the devil or satan. Please research this for yourselves. Lucifer is only mentioned in the bible twice, but refers to a fallen Babylonian King and not the Devil. As well Lucifer is an English word that is derived from the Latin word "lucem ferre" which relates to the planet Venus also known as "Daystar". In the King James Bible, Lucifer is refered to only once - the only refernce in the Bible - and it is not Satan.
A single line referencing Lucifer from Pike's Morals and Dogma is taken out of context (like so many political ads do). That line is followed by Pike teaching the people to look for the origins of customs and rituals.

Dear sir their are parts of a persons life that they want to keep a secret. However this does not mean that this person is a bad person or that he does not care for his fellow man. It justs means there are some aspects of his life that he doesn't want exposed to the world. Now for example the red cross doesn't distribute how much money they made every year but that does'nt mean they are bad people.

The word "Lucifer" originally means "morning star." Isaiah explains that some king was to fall like the "morning star." The New Testament used this word, Lucifer (which was Latin, not Hebrew), to be synonymous with "Satan." They were probably unrelated for some time.
Recognize that "Lucifer" also means, due to it's position as morning star, "bringer of light." So the masons are trying to get in touch with "the bringer of light."
Most are Christians. They just use terminology differently.
