  • PJ, THANKS once again. This song along with A Kiss Is A Kiss - these two Rockin' Chairs obscurities, are among my all time favorites.

  • Hey, can someone help me get a hold of Lenny? Tell him to call Yoshi in Plantation.

    Enough said.

  • @GusGossert

Hey Gus, where U sendin this msg from ? The DooWop Hall Of Fame, I hope.

  • Rumors of my demise are greatly exagerated, "the curly-headed kid in the second row"

  • ITS GREAT SONGS LIKE THIS THAT MADE THE 1950S AND EARLY 1960S THE GREATEST TIME IN MUSIC HISTORY.

  • One of my favorite NYC doo wops, Gus Gossert played it, CBS-FM played it alot too, Please Mary Lou is also great

  • quite nice!

  • sorry to say gus had passed away some time ago in a place where he didn't want to be & the music he didn't want*to be with

  • It's very sad, but he did make a huge mark on this world before he died. That's more than many can say

  • Doo Wop will never die.

  • this is my grandfather! ask me questions, at the user name gabster814

  • That's really cool. Is he still in the NY area?

  • Nino & the Ebb Tides are not the Rockin Chairs, but the Ebb Tides sang backup on this and its flip side, and Nino (without the Ebb Tides) sang backup on an earlier Rockin Chairs song-A Kiss Is A Kiss.

  • That makes a lot of sense. Thank you

  • I read that Lenny Dean was the sax player and lead vocalist for the Rockin Chairs, a group from Queens Village.

  • hey.... i like this song...!

  • great song never heard it was never played upper midwest

  • Wow love this song...I too remember this song from the Gus Gossert show on WPIX...also remember the Vince Castro Bong Bong record which for some reason sticks in my mind as the #199 doowop of all time when 'PIX counted them down back in '72. People forget that when Gus was on the radio those shows were the ONLY oldies on the radio, there was no WCBS-FM oldies station. I think that's why he's more affectionately remembered (plus he had more personality) than Don K.

  • they also did mary lou and a kiss is a kiss

    rockin chairs

    ERIK VON

  • I remember it well. Thanks!

  • good song

  • thank you

  • I assure PJDW that Don K. Reed did indeed play this on the Doo Wop Shop, that's where I first heard it & fell in love with it. Went to the ole Relic Rack in Hackensack to get my copy.

  • Good stuff. I'm sure Don K did play it. I associate my first memories of this song with Gus Gossert's show

  • Nice 59 Release Bro

  • I much prefer the other side, Girl of Mine. More of a rocker, good for jiving to.

  • I really miss the Gossert. It was a shame about how he died. I have this song on a 45 rpm and I played it to death, just like I played Bong Bong, by Vince Castro, over and over again. By the way, Eddie Gries, the former owner of Relic Rack was a buddy of mine. He did a lot to keep oldies alive. stan6836

  • I also remember sitting on my floor and taping this song on my Grundig reel to reel recorder on Sunday nites with Gossert. 5hrs of sheer music bliss. Thanks for the memories. I also went to the Relic Rack and remember buying the Best of the Spiders Album

  • Like Gus Gossert, The Curly Headed Kid used to say... God Digs Doo Wopps!

  • Great song. I may have actually heard this years ago (it sounds familiar). Thanks for bringing this back for me.

  • You most likely have... You may have caught this on Gus Gossert, Don K. Reed, Dan Romanello, etc.. If you're in Staten Island or southwest Brooklyn you could have caught this on my old show or The Big Beat Show on WRSU

  • Bought the original of A Kiss Is A Kiss at Village Oldies(House Of Oldies?-267 Bleecker) in the 70's.Used to go to Strider Records in the 80's.Good guys-I know Bob passed away some years ago.

  • I picked up a few nice pieces from Village Oldies a few months ago. They only have a small selection of original doo wop 45s now but the kid working there said they might start carrying more.

  • This song reminds me of Sunday nites listening to the Doo Wopp Shop.

  • Strangely I don't remember catching this on the Doo Wop Shop, but I wouldn't be surprised. This song is a NYC cult classic just like The Clock by The Contenders and Bong Bong by Vince Castro

  • Ah yes i did listen to Gus, alas I don't recall him playing this, I first heard it courtesy of Don K. Reed and his Doo-Wop Shop.

Then began my search to buy it for my own. The old Relic Rack in Hackensack, NJ satisfied my quest. Thanks for a great posting PJ Doo-Wop.

  • My first exposure to this record was on a reel to reel tape of Gus Gossert's Oldies But Goodies Show that my father had recorded. He said that he remembers Gus playing this on many occaisions. Glad you enjoyed my post
