This completely spoke to me and how I deal with things in a relationship. I normally believe those type of lies too and I've been trying to look past them, but it's very hard to do. I always feel like my past is sabotaging my future with those type of things. Thank you very much for your advice! I'm going to have to try and write down mine as well and take it one step at a time!
Its so true that woman believe that the man in their life is going to leave. I'm single now and I totally believe it. I believe that every single relationship in my life is going to end. Men just get bored, loose interest, or move on because you don't given them what they want.
But I guess all of those relationships fail, so you can know what a real man is when he does come around. :)
What frustrates me about this video is that it does not speak at all to women who *have* followed their husbands, and it did nothing but lead them into misery and bankruptcy. There are foolish men out there who should not be followed until they submit to leadership themselves. It's not "believing a lie" to observe a man's lack of wisdom in his decision making over a couple of decades, and choose to make wise choices for yourself and your family, even if it conflicts with what he says to do.
Grace's words spoke volumes to my heart. Thank you Grace! I am going to write down lies and then counter those lies with truths from The Lord through scripture to restore my brokeness. I'm glad I clicked on this video. Thank you Pastor Mark and Grace.
"Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets" Hab 2:2 I love this idea Grace. Thank you. Also Mark I love that you didn't dwell on the hurt but looked through it to she how it affected grace/women. I thank God for your example.
Not related to marriage at all but I think I'm very prone to believe to lies too. :(
Wherever they come from I struggle with difficult "truths" every day.
Also, how do you know that a lie is a lie if you believe it? And if you know it's a lie, why do you believe it?
I've been told by people at church that it's a part of spiritual warfare of every Christian and I believe that but it's difficult for me not to fear anything. :(
God has been very gracious so far tho. I'm still a Christian. :D
I disagree with the idea that wives have to submit to their husbands. As a man, I don't want women to treat me as superior just because of my gender. Sorry, Mark, but women aren't sheep to be 'led'- decisions should be made equally by both partners in a relationship.
@Dumbfoundedification Men are not to be dictators herding others around, but to be the head of the household, and the wife is to submit not like a slave, but a s a mutual partner who puts her husbands needs above her own as the husband puts his wives need above his own. It ends a mutual partnership as they both work for each other and then work together in that sense. From scriptures it states that the man is the head, but a decent mam ALWAYS consults his wife.
@baphomet66 By saying that man is the head & that women are led by them is to automatically allow one gender to overpower the other, no matter how much you want to sugarcoat it. Women should ALWAYS have equal standing in a relationship- if your church/mosque/temple says otherwise, I'd advise going somewhere else.
@baphomet66 What's the point in consulting the wife if he will ultimately make the final decision anyway? He's just giving her the illusion that her opinion matters when clearly, it doesn't. That's called ignoring.
@PurpleShades1 Because her opinion DOES matter. When the two people are truly in sync with God's plan for marriage and for them as a couple, they will have the same goals, and wantign to reach them together. My fiance and I confer over things, and there are times where i will tell her she has the say on it, and times where she gives me the say, but we discuss it together. That is the way to do it, and what I was trying to show. Scripture says man is the head, as Christ is the head
@baphomet66 ...And if a man doesn't consult his wife or concern himself with her welfare is she still supposed to submit? And how can a wife submit to her husband as a mutual partner? To 'submit' means 'to give over or yield to the power or authority of another' and 'mutual' means 'having the same relation each toward the other.' So, if a wife submits she cannot logically be in a mutual relationship. You're talking nonsense.
@yisoonshin12 But is that enough? You said yourself that he might do so "at the very least." Btw, a Christian--one who follows the bible's tenets at least--would be just as likely to be cruel to a woman (or to ignore her) as he would be likely to be nice and take her opinions into consideration. The bible is a mixed bag when it comes to practicing kindness; a garden with a few beautiful flowers and yet overgrown with weeds.
if you read Colossians you might notice it has a part about rules for families and where Paul specifically instructs believers to treat their wives well and not be harsh with them and for wives to be submitting to their husband. God joins man and woman together, let them act as one
@yisoonshin12 But, again, how can they act as one if the wife is supposed to submit? It just doesn't make sense. If the wife is at the behest of her husband, it matters very little in principle whether he is nice to her or not--she is a slave to his whims. I can understand how a man might find this arrangement appealing, but how can a woman sign up for it without reservation? Let me ask you a question: If the bible commanded you to do something you found abhorrent, would you still do it?
@Apmhflick No I am not. Submitting is not making someone more valuable than the other. If the man doesn't consult with his wife, yes, she should still show him love as Christ showed His love. Men are to love their wives as Christ loves us, ergo, he should not want to make his wife feel weak or less important. She submits by showing him that he is loved by her, and he then loves her as he ought. It is not a sign of being weaker.
@baphomet66 And yet the apostle Paul wrote in his first letter to the Corinthians that "women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says." He also writes: "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression."
@Apmhflick Pt.2 These verses obviously show (& there are many more) that submission by biblical decree amounts to NOT merely loving her husband, but to keeping her mouth shut and listening to her husband as a slave (also sanctioned by the bible) "obey[s] [his] master." Also, if "men are to love their wives as Christ loves us," that only further supports my point. End pt.2
@Apmhflick Pt.3 Would you say we are equal to Christ? Here's St. Paul again: "He must become greater; I must become less" (John 3:30). More misogynistic biblical passages... Genesis 2:22, 19:1-8 Exodus 20:17, 21:7-11, 22:18, 38:8 Leviticus 12:1-14, 12:4-7, 15:19-23, 19:20-22 Numbers 1:2, 5:13-31, 31:16-35 Deuteronomy 21:11-14, 22:5, 22:13-21, 22:23-24, 22:28-29, 24:1 Judges 11:30-40, 19:22-29 I Kings 11:1-4 Job 14 Proverbs 7:9-27, 11:22 Isaiah 3:16-17 Ezekiel 16:45 End pt.3
@Apmhflick For pt. 1:Keep in mind the time period of Paul. Back then women were not given the rights they have now. Now in modern times, it is not unusual for women to teach (think of your school were all the teachers men?) and preach and teach in churches (The person who runs our children's' ministry is a lady after all, and the pastors wife speaks and does worship as well).
@baphomet66 Thusly, yes God created man first and after seeing that none of the creatures were suitable to Adam for a companion, God created woman from his rib. From the side to be equal, from under the arm to be held and protected,. Read Ephesians 5:21 through the rest of the chapter. Men are called to be loving and not domineering, to love their wives as they love themselves for they would not harm themselves. why would they hurt the wife who is one with when they join in marriage
@baphomet66 But wait: You seem to be excusing the misogynistic passages of the bible by saying that it was a different time and yet you immediately fall back on quoting the bible as evidence of how husbands should behave. You're talking out of both sides of your mouth here. So which is it: Do you follow what the bible says in total or do you pick and choose? And, as far as Christ being perfect--that's a stretch. Look up the Freedom From Religion Foundation's essay 'Why Christ?' for details.
@Apmhflick You need to realize that I am not doing that. The old Testament is the old covenant. It was the time where Christ had not shown up and they slaughtered lambs for attonement. When Christ showed up and died on the Cross and was resurrected three days later, He became the new covenant and thus we are no longer held to the old testament laws (IE woman marries her rapist etc) because Christ is the new covenant and the old one was nullified
@baphomet66 Also, yes the times are the key. Christ said to follow HIM not his apostles. What was his commandment? Follow my commandments, the greatest of these being love. We look to Christ, not Paul, not what they say, but what Jesus says. He said to love our enemies, and love our neighbors as ourselves. Seems to me wives would then be loved too don't you think?
@baphomet66 But Christ said in Matthew 5:18: "I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." As far as I can tell, Christ has yet to return so everything has not yet been accomplished. Therefore, according to the Bible (to Christ's own words!), you are still required to follow ALL of the Old Testament laws. Where does it say to throw the OT away?
@Apmhflick "Look up the Freedom From Religion Foundation's essay 'Why Christ?' for details." Have you read the passages (not just the verses) which this argument refers to, or are you taking the writer's word for it? As a literature student, we are taught to consider the source and if another work is quoted, we should go read that, too.
@dulcimer742 Yes, I have read the surrounding passages for context: I've read the whole bible, in fact--numerous times. Most of the verses do not look better in the light of context: some, in fact, look worse. Check 'em out and tell me what you think.
@baphomet66 "Why would they hurt the wife who is one with them..." Maybe because they believe the lies of the Enemy, who says that they are not "really" one, and that if he learns some real pain from her past that he can't cope with that it's "really" okay for him to cheat on her or leave her or slander her or gossip about her or yell at her and make her afraid of him. It's all about believing the Enemy more than believing Yeshua.
