Chevrolet revived the G8 as a "Caprice". However, it is only used as a police interceptor. I don't know why Chevrolet doesn't put that into mass production. It was a good car.

Americans should do this with these pontiac's like this guy who converted his pontiac 2006 G8 back into an Australia Holden Commodore SS look which looks stunning and unique in the U.S that is.not in Australia since we have them everywhere but the Pontiac G8 is unique in Australia.
i never understand why dealers do not clean the exhaust tips. If they bought a $5 bottle of stainless steel cleaner and a brillo pad they could look prestine... Especially on a car with quad exhausts.

Im a GM Holden employee (Elizabeth South Australia plant) and got to drive lots of GTO's and G8 GT /GXP 's when they were fresh off the production line,I loved these cars and was proud to see our products going to the USA!...and I could not believe it when GM made the decision to kill off Pontiac....By the way If money was no object I would go and buy myself a "70 GTO JUDGE Ram Air IV 455 as a nice weekend cruiser !.."LONG LIVE GM V8 POWER !!"

Rear wheel drive works (I own a rear drive car), its ride is comfortable and more controlled than front wheel drive, too! I'm a Ford man, but I love these Australian rear drive GM cars......

I NEVER consider G8 as a Pontiac, since it's not. It's an IMPORT. To me, if it ISN'T made in North America, It's NOT a Pontiac. I DO like the strut based Trunk opening, like my 08 GP uses.

@TheDOWNSOUTHG Pontiac rebadge of the Chevy actually had some differences, Red gauges on a Pontiac version, and even the likes of G5, if you look at the back, it kinda looks CLEANER than Cobalt junk, by moving the round backup lenz that's on the tail-light in Cobalt down to the licence plate. As a die-hard Pontiac fan, GM just kicked me out by killing my only favorite brand. Unless Pontiac comes back in it's former glory(Without import or rebadge, reskin is ok), No more biz for GM from me.

@TheDOWNSOUTHG, Even though Pontiac sold more than Buick and Cadillac combined(Pontiac was no.3 in sales after Chev and GMC), but they kept Buick due to the popularity in China and Cadillac just to keep a luxury division. Obviously they didn't want to kill GMC since the Corporate name GM in 'ENGRAVED' on it though it's nothing more than a Chevy with different grille and logo. Even though MOST of recent Pontiacs were rebadges, they weren't as much a copy as GMC was to Chev.

Also, it has been confirmed by inside sources, the G8 will come back in 2012 as a Chevrolet. It will be based on a revised version of the Commodore that will be lighter and will probably have the new Gen V small-blocks with direct-injection.
Problem for me is, I just test drove the G8 GT, and well, I want one, now!
@Motorfordtoyota The Caprice isn't a Commodore, it is a Statesman(larger version). You're right, that will only be for cops. The Commodore, which we knew as the G8, will actually be coming back as a premium Chevy. That news broke back in late November thanks to MotorTrend and Australia's Drive.com. The export deal has been signed and they'll be here for the 2012 model year(probably for about a 3 year run until the all new commodore comes in 2015). No V6 this time either, just the SS(GT).
@ludicer That's what's going to happen! They're reintroducing the Chevy Caprice, which will look almost exactly like the Pontiac G8. It's only going to be a police car, but since all police cars retire from their duty when they get tooold, people will be able to buy a used Chevy Caprice police car in the future.
The Aussies sure know how to build muscle cars! I heard over in Australia the G8 body kit is a popular option on the Holden Commodore, this car's sibling.

@wiz2111 The handbrake was designed that way by Holden to make it easier for them to convert the car to left hand drive, which in turn allowed them to bring it here to the US as the G8.
This is a Holden Commodore. It was built for the Australian market and has long been the best selling car in that country. GM gives its australian division the leeway to develop this car to Australian standards, just like Ford does with the Falcon. It is to them what the Camry is to Americans. GM owns Holden. They also own Pontiac. That is why they were able to rebadge and convert it.
In other words, this is actually an Australian car, not an American one.
@wiz2111 By that same token, the Ford Falcon(Ford Australia's direct competitor to the Commodore) was developed even more specifically for Australia than the Commodore was. Because of this, it proved too expensive to convert. That's why you don't see Falcons outside of right hand drive markets(in fact I dont think they're even sold outside of Australia and NZ), but you can find Commodore variants in the US and the Middle East. GM wisely made the Holden more adaptable.

Fantastic car and fantastic video.
Also, it has been confirmed by inside sources, the G8 will come back in 2012 as a Chevrolet. It will be based on a revised version of the Commodore that will be lighter and will probably have the new Gen V small-blocks with direct-injection.
Problem for me is, I just test drove the G8 GT, and well, I want one, now!

@Motorfordtoyota The Caprice isn't a Commodore, it is a Statesman(larger version). You're right, that will only be for cops. The Commodore, which we knew as the G8, will actually be coming back as a premium Chevy. That news broke back in late November thanks to MotorTrend and Australia's Drive.com. The export deal has been signed and they'll be here for the 2012 model year(probably for about a 3 year run until the all new commodore comes in 2015). No V6 this time either, just the SS(GT).

@ludicer That's what's going to happen! They're reintroducing the Chevy Caprice, which will look almost exactly like the Pontiac G8. It's only going to be a police car, but since all police cars retire from their duty when they get tooold, people will be able to buy a used Chevy Caprice police car in the future.

kyle i have watched your channel for awhile and i have yet to see any corvettes from 1957-1979 thats what i would watch for awhile or an 80's chevy c-10 shortbed or the ss454 chevy truck these newer cars just dont appeal to me oh yeah im picky too haha btw a 57 chevy belair would be nice to see and a 55 belair too what can i say i love old vintage cars and trucks haha

@wiz2111 The handbrake was designed that way by Holden to make it easier for them to convert the car to left hand drive, which in turn allowed them to bring it here to the US as the G8.

This is a Holden Commodore. It was built for the Australian market and has long been the best selling car in that country. GM gives its australian division the leeway to develop this car to Australian standards, just like Ford does with the Falcon. It is to them what the Camry is to Americans. GM owns Holden. They also own Pontiac. That is why they were able to rebadge and convert it.
In other words, this is actually an Australian car, not an American one.

@wiz2111 By that same token, the Ford Falcon(Ford Australia's direct competitor to the Commodore) was developed even more specifically for Australia than the Commodore was. Because of this, it proved too expensive to convert. That's why you don't see Falcons outside of right hand drive markets(in fact I dont think they're even sold outside of Australia and NZ), but you can find Commodore variants in the US and the Middle East. GM wisely made the Holden more adaptable.
