Penn, you'll be excited to hear that Libertarians have been making an impact here in NC. Three Libs are now serving in county-level positions, and the governor's race earned us ballot access through 2012 (so we do not have to spend the next four years trying to meet the horribly unreasonable ballot access requirements in our state). In fact, our candidates for NC Governor, NC Lieutenant Governor, and US Senate all outdid Barr, each with 3%. Just wanted to spread some hope for Libertarians!

Look at the TX district breakdown of this election. 34 electoral votes went to McCain cuz of Texas, but democrats are silenced in this state due to gerrymandering. There's your 'conspiracy.' It's too much of a leap of faith for me to hope he's different. He's just another politician, spawned from the corrupt Chicago political system. What I don't get is the building up of Obama into a world-changing messiah figure. I see another Jimmy Carter administration that may experience a backlash. Swing voters voted out of reactionary emotion, but that's short-term. What happens when four years have passed, and we've gotten liberal legislation like gun control, Fairness Doctrine, etc.?

Not all liberals want guns to be banned outright. I am of the "as long as it is reasonable train" of thought as well as most of us liberals. If I can see a point to it, then I'll support it. I do not see a point to fully auto assault weapons, so ban them. Anything shy of say a 5 rounds a second firing range is okay in my book. Above that capacity, ban them.

Regarding gun control, he's said he has bigger fish to fry, and I'm sure he does.
The fairness doctrine is pretty lame, but we could at least use some legislation to prevent networks from blatantly lying for their political agenda, like what has been demonstrated of Fox.
Barack is the first politician in my lifetime who actually seems honestly concerned and invested in doing positive things and getting Americans involved in politics.

Regardless of what you think about Fox, it's not the government's job to decide what it thinks is "fair." Such power is dangerous. You seem very willing to believe what Obama says. I'm far more skeptical of politicians running for a high-level position, especially when their party wants to increase the power of the government in the realm of free speech.

If you don't like Fox News, don't watch it--that's the free market for you. Remember that conservatives complain loudly about the bias of the so-called liberal mainstream media, and the Associated Press even reported on a media study today backing that assertion. It goes both ways.

I am not uncritical of Obama, but of the viable options he was clearly the better choice.
I like politicians to be intelligent and well-spoken. By the way he speaks I feel confident he is not lying. He considers what others say, is introspective and considerate. McCain only talked in talking points targeted at the lowest-common-denominator.
I think the old McCain will come back, and help Obama in the next 4 years.

I don't think that you are ever going to get a politician whom you agree with totally. A sort of evolution happens to politicians, where whichever one succeeds gets imitated by following generations of politicians. It is natural selection (closer to artificial selection actually). It is your job to steer that evolution by voting for the one that you most like, even if it is a third party (lord I wish more people would vote for third parties)...
