I've been a big fan of QMS since 1968. To this day, they remain rather obscure to the mainstream. I won't even pretend to single out one thing they did above all others, as their best, but if I did, The Fool and Pride of Man would take top billing. There are 10's of thousands of words embodied in The Fool but they're written in your heart. Pride of Man requires no explaination. QMS was a really good group.
boy does this bring back great memories a classic !the guitar iterplay has moved me since i first heard it all those years ago an album i still cherish, cheers from down under.wah wah cruisin'

I had a reel to reel recording of this song direct from FM radio which I loved to play non stop back in the day. I was about 13 years old when I learned a few of the licks ... and now I realize that I have unconsciously kept on playing them to this day ... long after I forgot about their origin (ex .46, I just found this and the memory of sitting for hours with this music is flooding through me. Awesome! Hmmmm, actually I really should say Far Out!
I have been listening to this song since 1968...every time, I still find something new I hadn't heard before....and indeed it is a "bunch of hippie bullshit" that still holds up 42 years later
yes, it is a a journey into the unknown, which inevitably leads you to "the source" be it god or whatever. just like the the tarot card "the fool" which is a young man taking a leap of faith.. the leap may kill him but the reward can be illucidation.
I know exactly what you mean. I experience the same thing when I sit back, close my eyes, & listen... I mean REALLY listen, to "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus.
@MileyCyrusTrueLove I listened to this "Party in the USA song you mentioned...I didn't have any quasi- religious expieriences.. i just got really.... I mean really horny
i remember i found this album in a box of garbage on the street all caked with mud. i cleaned it up and listened to it and thought" a bunch of hippie bullshit" that night i had these dreams with this song as the soundtrack where i was cliff diving into the ocean. it was just like the tarot card..a real jungian experince..thanx for posting
i dunno if it rates a twilight zone episode, but its the only dream i still remember after so many years..lt was so vivid...i can still see the water and i can still hear the music from this song..amazing
This unusual music is very heavenly, very symbolic, and it resonates with one's deepest connections with the Infinite. In your dream the ocean represents, for lack of a better word, God. You are, in your dream, taking a leap of faith into the presence of God, as a drop of water would return to its source, the sea. It was a Jungian archetypal experience. Those very vivid deams seem to come from a realm beyond the ordinary. The "pearl of great price" is found among discarded trash.
...hippie bullshit? dude, you're the guy finding albums in the trash and takin' 'em home...sounds like kind of a hippie thing to do...peace and love to ya, man...i just take umbrage at that offhand characterization...ya know, freaks have feelings, too....
@1969buzzy hey no offence intended... I was a punk rocker at the time... but after listening to this box of trashed records I became a flower-punk... believe me i was the only guy moshing at the rainbow gathering.
@zipahead ...o.k., peace to ya...q.m.s. is one of my favorite psychedelic era bands, i'm glad that you got the chance to be introduced to their music...they got little airplay back in the day, and they're unheard of on the "classic" rock stations...btw, i'm new up here, and only posted my comment twice 'cause i didn't think it "took" the first time...peace, love, and joy to ya, my friend....

Sucks to split The Fool but what you gonna do? At least it might turn people on to QMS.

The Fool was my most favorite QS song, especially when cruising on Lake Tahoe. There was nothing more serene than this!

Sad this only has 5000 views, obviously most people who know about this either stumbled on it or were around in CA during the 60's.

This thing was written while of a large dose of LSD and forgotten until a bit later. Glad he wrote it down.

Is this a progressive rock instrumental masterpiece or what??? The subtle changes that run through it are great.

QMS Masterpiece. Cippolina. Both one of a kind.

Oh Yeahhhh.
A perennial late night FM radio "sign off tune" - back in the day....as was "When the Music's Over" - Doors and several other "extended" tunes.
I love Cippolina's guitar work, never been anyone quite like him...
