It easily overheats the compoenets (alot of SMT parts contain plastics that are easily damaged, Allso there is not enough solder on surfacemount boards to require solder braid for compoenet removal and has a huge potential to damage the small pad's. Really the only effective way dismounting Surfacemount parts is a preheat/reflow station and hotair station. With a reflow station you simply heat the board and move the part.
