People who have represented Christianity throughout its existence have misunderstood various things in the bible that caused them to suspend critical thinking, but that is not correct. When Jesus encouraged us to pay our taxes (Luke 20:25) he was thinking critically. When Proverbs 15:5 teaches that accepting correction instead of always being offended is critical thinking. Proverbs 14:23 teaches people not to be lazy.

Atheism is built on the presumption that there is evidence to disprove or provide lack of probability towards the existence of a God. this man is so wrong.because the bible IS the word of God.yes it was written by men but inspired by the holy spirit.there is so much in the bible that has been proved by science but nobody talks about that.

And even if he had, there is nothing holy or moral about the idea of scapegoating one person to absolve another of responsibility for his own actions. It is a barbaric and bloodthirsty idea that is right at home among Bronze Age tribes who had no idea where the sun went at night, but has no place among advanced, scientific minds.

Bill isn't atheist. He IS pretty much saying the bible is bi bologna. Bill is saying 'there ISN'T a god is just as arrogant as christians saying there IS when neither can be proven.' All he want's is logic and satisfying answers.

@HoBustinJopson An atheist is simply someone who does not believe in any god. In order to be classified as an atheist you aren't required to claim with any kind of certainty that there is no god.
Bill Maher is an Agnostic Atheist whether he realizes it or not.

@HoBustinJopson Actually Bill Maher is an atheist. In his interview with Piers Morgan he said he was an atheist. Not all atheists say there is NO God. Most of us say that the chance of a God existing is very slim. For instance even the most famous atheist Richard Dawkins says that he doesn't say there is NO God just that the existence of God is very unlikely.

"Suspending critical thinking" is not something that Christianity teaches. People who have represented Christianity throughout its existence have misunderstood various things in the bible that caused them to suspend critical thinking, but that is not correct. When Jesus encouraged us to pay our taxes (Luke 20:25) he was thinking critically. When Proverbs 15:5 teaches that accepting correction instead of always being offended is critical thinking. Proverbs 14:23 teaches people not to be lazy.

A good bit of the teachings that are in the bible were around before Christianity, and for that reason is why I did not say that Jesus brought into the world a completely new philosophy on good living. I simply made the claim that the bible does not teach people to "suspend critical thinking."

Bill Maher is an agnostic. I have never heard him call himself anything else. He has no problem with people believing in a higher problem. He has problem religion or theism. That is, people who not only believe in a god, but who think they know this god personally and knows what it wants. Anyone who claims to know god is a liar and should never be trusted about anything ever again. They are fricken nuts.

There is no definite answer. Even the Bible says that. It is by Faith that you enter.. Not certainty. There will never be an indisputable answer or else you could not enter by Faith. Thousands upon thousands of years this question has been asked. I suppose bill has the answer. Yes, God said it, that settles it, and I believe it.

Bill Maher seems like a smart guy, but really, I think he should be able to answer if he believes in god or not. If he doesn't he's an atheist, if he does he's a theist. None of the answers really say anything about what you know, just what you do or don't believe. Agnosticism is a redundant word, cuz agnosticism doesn't say anything about what you believe, only that you are willing to admit that you don't know (which none of us do)

The intelligent attitude to have towards the unknown is to admit that you do not know. I am almost certain there is no god, but it would be irresponsible for me to say I am %100 certain with no definitive proof.
