  • Staypress ,London in the 70's and early 80's was no picnic mate. Esp if you were black or Asian.

  • @strangetown22 yeah true but I think it has worked out for them now ,but it surprising how few blacks were in the shot as it was on 68 and they arrived in notting hill as early as 57/58

  • @strangetown22

Yes, things are much better in London now that it is filled with blacks and asians.

Enjoy your city or what's left of it.

  • @GoodieMike We have blacks and Asian-Americans in the States. They have made the USA a better country.

  • @bbdupon

Yes blacks do make dinning out more interesting:

And Asians from the middle east love to show their support for America:

Hurray for diversity and a better USA!

  • fucking brilliant you could see how real London was in the 60's and much safer. It is really shit now

  • Thanks for posting but this whole opening scene does not work. Many of the people on street look at the off screen camera filming Tom Courtenay walking through this scene. You can can see them eihter smiling or looking bemused at the camera.

    .

Gave you 5 stars anyway for introducing this film to me. I am going to buy it.

  • Oi! Where was Jimmy Villiers????

  • It was a really great, quirky little film that I haven't seen on TV for over 30 years and I've never seen it out on DVD. Ranks alongside another little movie gem that I love "Morgan, A Suitable Case For Treatment" starring David Warner. Thanks for posting.

  • which website please

  • The character in the film is called Gerald Arthur Otley. It's set in West London. Although there is a Yorkshire connection as I believe that Tom Courtenay is from Hull, or close by.

  • I live in otley too, and I was thinking the same thing!!!!!!!!!!

  • The character is called Otley...the movie is set in London.

  • This must be Otley in America - it doesn't look where I live in West Yorkshire, England!!!

  • Nice walk down Portobello Road in London where market is held still.

  • it is in London, his name is Otley

  • An absolutely great actor.

  • Always adore Tom Courtenay :)
