  • Thanks but my movie I just ripped still looks shitty. Any tips?

  • 4:30...it Doesn't work when i Rip it..some stupid error..Any help ?

  • Hi, I've been using your video for years. I've keep the link and every time I need to do this I watch the video again, so THANK YOU! Now I have 2 questions: a) Would it help the quality of the resulting video if instead of 700MB I just use the same size as the original? In this case the DVD is 3GB and I don't mind the size as long as it stays closer to the quality of the original. b) Is there any difference in quality or file size depending of the file extension used: .avi, .xvid, .vidx, etc?

  • @sonoilluminati666

That can be done yes, although it goes almost beyond the point of converting it as it was designed to compress the file size ultimately. I will mentioned that this video is really out dated and its pretty surprising people still use it. If you want to keep a DVD in its original quality I would personally just copy the image as an ISO and mount a virtual DVD player.

  • @RoyalW1979 I know, is just that my intention is to edit that outcome AVI and then the compressed version would be my edit. I would guess it's better to just compress it once than compress it, then edit, then render it to a even more compressed version. But thanks for your answer. Now, how about my 2nd question about the file extensions. Would it make a difference in quality depending on the extension I use on Vidomi? (AVI, XVID, DIVX?) Thanks for your time :)

  • @sonoilluminati666

As far as I know, it's unfortunately a experimental procedure and I know that sucks if it is a timely conversion. I can't give you an answer to be honest although I have to agree that DIVX seem to have better results for video's with fast motion. Especially with motion blurs on an action scene. Although in general XVID is clearer overall for the resulting compressed size.... So yea, sorry I can't break it down to a black or white answer.

  • @RoyalW1979 that works THANKS!! :)

  • THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!!! Finally I can rip movies to 700mb with xvid encoding. I originally thought my ps3 could only play movies that were divx encoded (wirelessly from our pc), but just discovered that it plays xvid encoded movies as well. Perfect. :)

  • crazy awesome and useful tutorial dear sir !!! many thanks !!

  • umm i get a virus when i download the seccond link

  • all I want to do is put an hour home movie on to youtube what is the easiest way? also copy original dvds to a blank the sound is quiet how can I get this back?

  • Good music and good video. Do you know artist name?

  • kann ich bei vidomie irgendwie einstellen das der ton der avi dateinen lauter ist?

    !please thumbs Up and translate!

  • The chill beats made it very easy to watch to the end. Kudos!

  • HELP! No matter what, it does the movie but then leaves about 20-30 seconds of the end off and puts it into a seperate avi. So I have a movie and a 20 second ending. Any suggestions?

  • it don't work.

  • thanks so much for this ! but a question. if im burning to dvd what would be the best size desired to get best quality instead of 700mb since ill have 4 gigs to play with ? and help is appreciated. thanks again.

  • you uploaded this in 2007,and much thanks, is this still the best way to convert to avi format?

  • Great music bro!

  • Sorry. :D

found it while goin through all the old post ;D

  • hye, this is a very good tutorial :D thx mate.

I would like to ask a question,i tried to convert some anime with double audio, which is in english and japanese.the thing is,the .avi i got was in english audio.so wht should change to get it in japanese audio?thx again

  • it says failed to initialize properly

  • I <3 dvd decrypter

  • I rent DVD's from Red Box for $1 a night. I copied and encoded them with this tutorial. Awesome apps and video tutorial. Thanks a lot royal!

  • If I'm doing this with a shorter video, such as a tv show that is about 45 minutes long how can I make the file smaller then 700mb?

  • Thanks mate! Voted up!

  • Hey. I just figured out I can do this with my VLC media player instead. lol Just hit the record button and make sure the record settings are good for the audio and video. They should be by default. It lets me record whole movies without any problems.

  • thanks for that video man. really helped me out for a video conversion. cheers

  • im annoyed when i try to decrypt it gets to 63% and then says I havent got enough space and iv got 37.4gb left on my portable and its decrypting to my portable why is it saying that, can any one tell me I will subscribe to you!!! :)

  • nice tutorial but i prefer dvd shrink

  • Ok i did everything on this guide bu for some reason the subtitles dont work, how i can fix that? thx in advance.

  • Brilliant Tutorial...Thanks a bunch, seen this software but never really got into it. and forgot about it too.

    Good Job

  • This program is great. But most of the movides I encode have the audio that is around 1 second apart from the video. Is there any way to prevent that?

  • Thanks for the help man :) beautifully executed and easy to understand.

Also, when you started ripping it with DVD Decrypter, I forgot you were fast forwarding :P

  • Thank you for sharing . The music is very nice what is it call ?

    Thanks for the help

  • Okay I'm having quite a bit of trouble. I was able to rip one DVD into a working VOB file before but now whenever I try to do it the VOB file says the duration is 00:00:00 and I can't play it properly on any media players without it restarting each time it's paused and can't fast forward or rewind, and the vidomi program can't open them. Please help me with this.

Also that vidomi link you posted goes to an unsafe site, on google the 3rd link is a good one at softonic or whatevers it's called.

  • thankyou dude...i was doing it while watching your video..

    25mins to go...hopefully will work

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

  • Forgive me if this topic has been brought up before and I failed to come across it but is there a way to set the video's height and width manually as opposed to being restricted to a fixed width of 720p?

  • when i do the dvd decreptor is says OOHH NOO

  • Thank you man! Ive been looking everywhere for something like this, you helped me out alot.

  • thank you so much! that was REALLY helpful =]

  • thank you.

  • Thanks a lot man!!!

  • @sanchezman94 Maybe you could research into where ever you found that. I wont bother because my original DVD's still work so Im thinking its not true

  • @RoyalW1979

You're right, it's fine. However, some of my DVD's end up with the sound totally screwed up. Did I miss something?

  • @sanchezman94 Do you mean after ripping or encoding? If after ripping, dont worry about playing the VOB's just encode them. If you meant after encoding check these...

    - Did you rip the correct stream in DVDDecrypter?

    - Is the sound playing correct from the VOBS?

    - Try uninstalling ALL audio codecs (or ALL codecs) and reinstalling fresh ones AND ONLY ONE of each. Re-encode

What audio codec are you using? did you rip the right stream?

  • @RoyalW1979

The sound is fine in all the VOBs but only after encoding is it wrong. As far as I know, I chose the right streams. The codec I use is the one with vidomi. For some reason though, the sound error only happens on some DVDs (Dr. Strangelove and Jaws).

  • @RoyalW1979

Also, how do you use Subtitle Workshop to make soft subtitles from VOB files? I can't see how to import them.

  • @sanchezman94 Sorry forgot about Subrip. another program i used. basically you rip the subtitle stream from dvddecrypter, use subrip to convert the vobs to .sub, then subtitle workshop to convert .sub to .srt

  • @RoyalW1979 how come when i try to play movies on my tv dvd player it support mpeg4 mp3 dvdr so i make my movie dvd and when i play it the sound become soft on my tvdvd player how can i fix that?

  • @sanchezman94 I had the same problem and fixed it by going into audio options, first click off 'Use Lame to encode' then click 'select Audio Codec Defaults' and changed it to '44.100 16bit Stereo' click OK, then turn 'Use lame to encode' back on. It worked for me. :)

  • @RoyalW1979

I solved it. All I had to do was close down vidomi after each completed movie and then open it again for the next. I was doing one movie after another.

  • @sanchezman94 Forgot to mention, I also changed in Audio options "no normalize' to 'Two Pass Normalize'

  • @RoyalW1979 It's not true. DVD's are Read only, just like a CD-R. If it was a DVD-RW then you might have a problem.

  • @RoyalW1979 no, if it was +RW then it would

  • @RoyalW1979 Hey guy, thanks for this recommendation, it was real straightforward which i like but unfortunately the sopranos dvd which i ripped came out in FRENCH!! Luckily the VLC media player which i use has subtitles but what could have caused this problem d'you know?

Has it got something to do with Region settings? If you have a clue let me know

  • @RoyalW1979 Don't worry about it! Problem solved.

  • @sanchezman94 - not true... it does not write to the DVD

  • @sanchezman94 DVD's are read only, it in no was affects it.

  • Does any body know any free program to rip dvd's with subtitles on it , i know how to do it but don't know of any 100% free program

  • @SuperUSA2012 dvd shrink and dvd fab?

  • @sanchezman94 DVD Decrypter can't in any way modify a commercial DVD, nor can it change a one-time-write DVD copy (Even though you wouldn't need DVD Decrypter to rip it). For what it's worth, though, DVD Decrypter is mostly obsolete, as is Vidomi. Neither one has been updated in years, and there are many other applications that work and render a better video file.

  • @CWR03

name a few! i dont wanna download stuff thats crawling with troyans

  • Hi could you help? when I hit the start encoding button in vidomi I get a window pop up that says Vidomi Encode Initialize Error: Encode codec failed to initialize properly. Could you advise what to do?

Is it comething to do with the parameters? as the film is 2.11 GB (2,267,152,384 bytes) so i set target size and media size at 2268MB.

Any help would be very much apprecited. Thanks

  • @teenyhead Its usually the case of conflicting codecs. Ive had that problem before and all I did to fix it was, uninstall ALL codecs, restart and install a minimum of codecs i needed for a particular case. I just prefer XVID for video and MP3 for audio. But what ever you choose is up to you, just dont have too many (especially of the same codecs (ie: DIVX1.0 + DIVX+7.0 + XVID2.14.4 + MP3 + OGG etc) it just makes some programs hard to define which codec to use as theyre all bascially valid)

  • @johnsmit90210 if you encode the black bars for one it increases the size of the avi. and two a player cant tell whats on the video so in actual fact, youll have 2 bars on the top and bottom. 1 "spacer" and 1 that you encoded. does that make sense to you?

  • @VChapaev im not aware of AOA, but why convert to divx and convert to avi? i mean, divx is avi???

  • @dochartagh torrents definately work

  • @comk4ver check where you are saving it on vidomi settings.

  • Can you use these films to edit movies in WIndows Movie Maker?

  • man great video i appreciate it. its just that for some reason i got no audio on my avi files after they got converted. is there a particular reason? i mean on ur video when u go to audo options, u know where it says use audio track yeah i got nothing but u had something written there on ur video so maybe its the files i converted. thanks

  • @salfetka Im guessing you forgot to choose an audio track during the dvd decryption. double checj you at least have a video and an sudio stream in dvd decrypter

  • @comk4ver sry your having trouble.. lol.. check the Destination before you decrypt the movie. It automatically names and places it on the root of your main or External hard drive. good luck

  • THANKS SSSSSSSSSSS

    NICE WORK^_*

  • Thanks so much man I needed that tutorial so I could change the files from DVD Decrypter to an AVI file, thanks so much it worked and now I have Avatar on my computer and on my ps3.

  • WTF IS up with your comp ???

  • @PS3UP My PC back then was way out of date. And now that its upgraded a few times since i uploaded this tutorial, its.... well still outdated

  • Websites for programs don't work anymore...

  • @shockingstuff

I dont believe you guys, i uploaded this 3 years ago and you guys still cant find links to the programs? Yea the sites for both programs are no longer online but still i googled it and found the first results to be valid links sheesh

I cant post links in here so i posted them in video description

  • does this shit still work

  • @schitzophernia187 apparently

  • When I finish converting, the video is no where to be found. I did everything in the video, what happened?

  • @StarAnice You did everything right.. it places your decrypted video onto C:\ so you probably wanna look at.. Start menu.. My Computer. .. C:\Avatar.. just as an example.. dvd decrypter automatically names it and places it into C:\.. but sometimes it gives it a weird name. so before you start decrypting see the name and Destination it's going to copy it too.. Also if you have a External hard drive connected, sometimes it will place it there. Like F:\ so check the root of all your drives

  • @BrutexxForce - agreed

  • thanks

  • i think you type it wrong at 00:16 Not DVD DECRYPTOR IT HOPE T BE DVD DECRYPTER

  • @kaisararkhan yer my bad

  • when i go to audio settings i dont have the AC3 option why?

  • @theOscar007 Make sure you chose a audio stream in dvd decrypter and not just a video stream

  • :O woow

  • EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!!!!! And thanks for introducing me to Vidomi! The whole process worked FIRST TIME! Until I get familiar with the tools, I run this video right along side of the two programs when I'm setting up a new video convert. Thanks Royal!

  • Thank you! It was really helpful ^^

  • cant wait to see the results, thx a bunch

  • This music kicks ass what is it?

  • @ryebag Xzibit - Paparazzi (Instramental Version). You can search for it on YouTube. :-) It is pretty cool.

  • u made it really easy thanx

  • does anybody know where i can get the vidomi v0.469 file as their website it a search engion?

  • @301davo see video description

  • huge? 6-10 gb is small..

  • @swehunter2000 this video tutorial is 3 years old. in 2007 it was fairly big for a movie

  • Awesome job. I wish all my installations were this easy.

  • i used to use a prog called winavi video convertor which was a hell of a lot easyer than doing this, but sometimes that prog was hit or miss...this is alot more work but seems good...vidomi takes a while though!

  • this is absolutely FANTASTIC!! No question about it.. there is no other tutorial better than this one for this task! Absolutely phenomenal!!

  • I'm having a weird problem that I havent had before... when I convert a movie to 700mb it splits the file onto 2 parts and makes borth parts 700mb.........it's really weird, I've checked all the setting and couldnt find anything wrong, has anyone had this problem and can help me please please?

  • @Ronja06

Could be because the settings you're using are actually too good to make the file only 700 mb big.

    Try reducing the settings further.

  • @Ronja06 is it set to split anyhere at all? also check the codecs configuration

  • nc vid, good help, thx^^

  • RoyalW1979, I see youre an mma fan. It was actually wec 47 that i was trying to convert.

  • @JjEjFjF I was a bit... back then

  • My movie didnt have any sound after doing this. Does anyone know why? I did everything that was done on the video

  • @JjEjFjF check you chose an audio stream in dvd decrypter

  • 4:53...ive been doing these movies for a while now...that noise when its done gets on my nerves!!!!!!!!! whatever thanks anyways b! 5* again

  • GREAT video man. Very well explained, good use of programs, and the best solution I can find.

  • Thankyou!

  • thisis useful cuz now i can put movies on my netbook...thanks alot

  • horrible sources.

  • @Z3R0GT7 Just google the names, they're the first hits!

  • thanks newshoster!!

  • Thank you very much. This is awsome to be able to do this!!!

  • I'm trying to put a movie on my new mp4 player. After converting it to avi and placing it on the mp4 player I get a "video file format error"? Any one know what I could be doing wrong? Thanks

  • The file format (.avi) is incompatible with the player your trying to play the file with.

Try playing the file using a different media player.

(I.e VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player, etc.)

Any problems, let me know. :)

  • I can get small clips to play on my 8gb mp4 player, but not whole movies. So I know that the avi format is compatible with it.

  • the mp4 player can only play mp4 format videos

  • @boltsinkinc7 did you encode it with a mp4 codec? or xvid like in the tutorial?

your mp4 player obviously doesnt support the format/codec you encoded it with

  • Then use ConvertX2dvd

  • What if I have a movie in Xvid format, will it convert it to dvd format for me? And if doesn't is there a program that will? Sorry, I'm new to this stuff.

  • thanks my friend!!

  • Not a bad tutorial but there are so many video converter out there which uses CUDA (nvidia cards parallel processing power!) and have Multi-core CPU support which makes it all much faster (in case of CUDA up top 70% faster). So if you have a NVIDIA Video card - google for

    CUDA video convert

    =)

  • To crop both black bars is the reason why so many ripped movies look just wrong (stretched). Never crop black bars on wide screen movies or you will see actors and everything overly elongated (overly tall and ugly).

  • @pduarandall incorrect. chopping the black lines out is a good thing to save quality of the rip. in the case of a widescreen movie, the player automatically adds lines in to make up for it. if it isnt doing this for you change the aspect ratio of your player

  • what music is that? Does it have a name?

  • He names it at the end of the vid.

    Xzibit-Paparazzi

  • @steeleye2000 ill say this once instead of repeating it in the numerous times people have asked. its xzibit - paparazzi (instrumental version)

its been in the tags of this video since i posted it.

for a trivial side to it, i mixed it a bit to fllow through the 10 mins of the tutorial

  • @RoyalW1979 - I like your version better. :-)

  • what do i do if it has reading errors?

  • yeah. i get this too o:

  • @tak351 most likely your dvd is dirty/scratched or unreadable

  • can't get it to work on windows 7 pro 64-bit :(

  • @chrisman02

At what point does this give you an error? I have Windows 7 64bit and it worked OK

  • @chrisman02 wouldnt have a clue. im still on xp.

im pretty sure both programs are 32bit software.

  • Thanks. Very nice vid. + very helpfull. Merry Christmas & happy new year

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you very much!

  • looks like Vidomi hasnt been updated since 2002? Maybe DVDx would be a better program since its more up-to-date?

  • @ruthven78 new links in description. not to say not use another program. just use what works for you really

  • Thanks man thet is sweet

  • Damn!

I was just finished after 2 hours, and i took magyar instead of english xD!!

It worked great besides the mistake i made.

  • Never mind. I found it. When the successful box pops up (4:52 in the video) it plays the same musical jingle that DNA Productions, the guys who made Jimmy Neutron, use(es). ("Hi! I'm Paul!" - three-eyed chimp character with twisting trees beside him, animation.)

  • @dogman15 I remember when that first came up and my volume was all the way up...scared the bejesus outta me, then I thought Jimmy Neutron had just went off lol

  • thank you! x

  • it worked great for me...except that the subtitle isnt there?

  • @patrickn16 vidomi doesnt encode subtitles sorry.

dvd decrypter can rip them though. in my case i use a porgram called subtitle workshop (also free) that turned the subtitle VOB's into popular subtitle formats such as SRT, TXT etc. This of course are soft subs which is a 2nd file to your avi. If you want hardsubs (that is subtitles perminantly on your avi) then i have no help there sorry. I have never needed to find out as i am happy with just softsubs for now

  • great tutorial. i am doin this as i speak. it has all worked so far. i allready had dvd decriptor and i have loads on films that i have copyed on my pc but cant do anything with them apart from watch them on my pc. ill let you know if it works coz it is encoding to avi at mo =]

  • it takes forever tho ... over an hour ... for two passes.

  • fantastic tutorial, it's help me a lot, and very fast

  • great tutorial

(except the music, but i muted that so...)

    thanks!

  • lol when i convert vids to divx sound is not cuahgt up with the video

  • how do you survive with a 40gb hard drive? =/

  • @blazed85 that was just my system drive (c drive). the rest of my drives were over 500gb at the time. now have 2TB.

  • i try to get vidomi but wen i download it says the link is broken plz help

  • @supernaturalroxrichy see video description

  • Thanks for the tutorial, love the track though, please tell us what it is!! Please!

  • Fantastic tutorial, thank you so much!

  • use xvid4psp.

    it's was better.

  • how do you use xvid4psp

can u help me plzz im tring to put

team america world police unrated on my psp

  • Does the quality of the DVD remain when its converted ?
