My cat taught me about joy of giving. She was an 8 week old feral kitten when I rescued her from the Tucson desert. My little heroic deed has filled my heart with joy ever since. Saving her life saved mine in return, for she gives my life purpose and meaning. To see her happy, safe and healthy gives me a peace and joy that goes beyond words. No hot rod or guitar ever matched the joy caring for her gives me.

Law of nature is NOT altruism, the universe does not "work together", it is chaotic and random. If it were a body it would fail in seconds. Things do not "receive" what they need to survive, nor exactly what they need to survive, most things do not survive as a result of this. I have to disagree. If you were right life could not exist. Any system from subatomic to cosmic level thrives for balance, equilibrium. There are opposing forces, rejecting, attracting, but within their balance is life formed.

Life is balance, the loss of balance causes explosion or death. The best example is the living body: all its cells, body systems take the absolute minimum for their function, the rest goes for the well being of the whole. As soon as this is broken cancer cell is formed.

In my humble opinion, egoism is the partial separation of the individual from the whole for the purpose of expanded universal consciousness. I would not equate it with selfishness or greed.
