If it's an intro to a tune that's fine, but label it as such. This isn't much a solo as it is noodling. AGAIN!!!! Gene's "solos" were NOT ment to be something with a melody! They were intended for the blood vomiting to express sickness and dying through the distortion. This "solo" was the transition when the band changed out of the makeup. His Animalize "solo" - and after that - put some sort of "melody" or "groove" to NOT represent the blood "solo". WHY can't anyone just accept that Gene is who he is and why he does what he does? If you don't think he is good, well - DON'T LISTEN TO KISS.

well this is not considered a BASS solo but gene is mediocre. its not like he cant play. he can play. he is better than some bass players. hes no worse than paul maccarney where he plays a couple of notes during the song. if u listen to some KISS and listen to the bass in their not so well known songs u will see that not only is gene an ok bass player but like eric singer and bruce and ace are really good musicians.

This isnt intended to be a solo.....hes just playing quick riffs to pump up the audience. I saw a video once where he was sitting with a guy who was playing a guitar and he had a bass and he totally improvised a bassline for the song the guy was playing....ON THE SPOT!!

You got that right. Let's face facts: if Kiss did not have all the gimmicks on stage, they would have faded like so many other 70s bands. As for Gene being a "good" bassist, give me a break. Geddy Lee is a good rock bassist. Gene is just beating his instrument. I can't believe anyone finds this "solo" entertaining.

Before, the important this wasn't the solo, the bloodspitting "trick" is what really matter. I mean, he just does some ramdom sounds with the bass while he's spitting blood and flying. But if there's no blood, the solo is unecessary.
It's like spitting fire with no make-up. The "magic" is gone.

No I dont disagree at all dude. Gene definitely isnt as talented as Entwistle, Wooten, Geddy Lee or Flea. All Im sayin is that Gene is probably the most underrated bassist of ever. His bass lines were a walking style like McCartney and were just as complex or even more so than Paul McCartney's. If you listen to Goin Blind off of Kiss Unplugged its clear that some serious thought went into that bassline. Geddy Lee and the like are EXTREME talent but Gene is more talented than people give him

I've heard what you're saying before, but JPJ is NOT better than Entwistle was. Entwistle INVENTED lead bass playing. Oh and you said thatwith music theory you can do whatever you want, and thats true so its obvious that if Gene was truly a bassist of Pete Wentz calibre as people say( insane) then he wouldnt have been able to come up with such a bassline, so he must have an intermediate grasp of music theory. BTW is it just me or does it sound like Gene is playing Master of Puppets above??

I know that John is better than John... It's obvious! Whoops! JE is better than JPJ, lol! But both are really really talented... JE is just more skilled, and could use that skill for his talent... I've been listening to KISS music for over 30 years, so maybe you're right, I don't know anything about them or their music. They've recorded a lot of excellent songs, and I love the shows that they put on. That doesn't mean the band members don't occasionally do something that sucks.

Yeah it sucks HORRIBLY, but its Gene Simmons, he can do what he wants on stage, thats why he is famous, this is the part of the show where he shows off cuz that is what he does in KISS, and this is the creepiest thing he can do off stage cuz KISS took off the make-up so no more fake blood. Most attention he gets on stage is singing which isnt so bad, but not the best.
