there temperment is but the venom is weak. more likely to kill a bird or something
defientely not a human from experience the bites are brutal though so many gnarly little snakes. hard to keep in captivity if wild caught but very beautiful snakes
@nsane992002 Boiga dendrophila melanota. Yeah, the black/yellow are NOT deadly, despite what the guy says. They have some venom but it's not that toxic to humans. The guys regularly get bitten at the snake farm - one guy, Jackie, was bitten by 6 different ones on a recent boat trip to collect them in the mangrove trees - and he got a slight headache... and was fine.
@btran313 It has venom - but it isn't that toxic to humans. In fact, the guy that collected 6 of them from a boat cruising through the mangroves recently - was bitten by every one of them. He got a slight headache and felt hot - but, that was it. They're probably not going to kill you unless allergic.
@hoblywobly Just about every video I do there are 1-2 people that get all bent out of shape about using poisonous versus venomous. Venomous means it can envenomate you - in your blood stream it causes damage. Poisonous means you ingest it and it causes damage. I often use "poisonous" in my descriptions because the keyword is searched on MUCH more than venomous is. I even sometimes catch myself saying poisonous in videos. Don't get all Charlie Manson over it - relax and smoke something.
Very nice. Typical dendrophila behaviour lol. Not going to say anything about "omg he threw the snake" its no biggie. But yeah they really have a different idea of hove animals should be treated down there.
really, if you get a hatchling and work with it from a very young age, they are fairly reasonably tempered, about like a black rat snake. don't have a hand smelling like lizards when you open the tank. use a hook to get it out then it is cool tempered.

I don't know why the fact that they are venomous would be a factor in whether they were handled or not, considering the venom is very mild. The venom isn't enough to do much damage at all. But they are mean.
@Mcdumbshit Retics should only be owned if the owner has the time cash and space to keep one. Snakes that grow that large imo should only be sold to people 18 years+. Or maybe more. To many people just can't take care of a snake that gets that big in the end, and many end up in the wild (the wrong wild that is lol)
Mangroves are fine pets for the right people. That's like saying dogs shouldn't be pets because not everyone gets along with them. They're great snakes to care for, but they're not the best for handling. Venomous snakes shouldn't be free handled-it's an unnecessary risk.
I guess I should add - I've seen snakes in Thailand fall out of trees - a couple meters and hit the hard dirt... this one didn't travel more than 1 foot before landing on the stump. Will be going back to get more king cobra video in the next few days - will post here. join or subscribe so you get alerts when I post next ones.
Yeah, I didn't understand that either... it sucked from my point of view too. In Thailand they do things differently. I've seen a LOT I disagree with...

I owned one of these snakes for over 6 years until about a year ago..
They are just vicious reptiles, and i couldn't put up with a venomous snake that i couldn't hold all of the time..
Now i own a reticulated python and a californian king snake.
Mongrove snakes really should not be kept as pets, i made a huge mistake when i brought one.
bink182rock 2 years ago 5
So you have decided that other people should not keep them as pets based on the fact that you didn't like having one as a "pet " ?
landofthefreemyass 2 years ago
You really shouldn't handle venomous snakes anyways and to boot a Retic isn't much better...

@bink182rock did u ever get bit by it? they carry a neurotoxic venom so i would worry about possible brain damage due to thier bite?...
SOUTHSIDER1985 1 year ago
@bink182rock They're beautiful to look at but they're quick and vicious. Good thing you're still alive.
