@jamon51 Yeah, 2S6s were heavy bitches. Only way to do 'em in was either scrape the ground and rush in then drop 'em before they get a lock (you have about 5 seconds or so) or pop behind a hill, loose a FnF and go down behind it again (to lose the laser lock).
Or you could sacrifice a squadmate.
I'm itching to play it again, been so many years, and nothing else like it...or Commanche 3.
I loved playing that game, even when newer games with better graphics came out the quality of MicroProse and the enemy AI and etc still made this a great game. Wish I still had it.
First hit 9 to engage the rotors to the engine, and then hit + to pull the collective and throttle up. Easy flying is different than realistic in that in easy flying you only have to go to your desired altitude, level off, and then put the nose down to go forward. If you do that in realistic you'll nose into the ground, so play around with it in Training mode.
But that's my big problem I don't know how to resolve. I hit 9, it starts the engines, but when I hit + on the NumPad, It doesn't do anything. I tried everything, but nothing seems to work. Am I missing something out? Should I use some a program to resolve this, like DosBox?
@jamon51 I have a problem of gaining altitude. I hit 9 to engage the rotors so the red light turns into green but my + button doesn't do anything. Not at the top of the keyboard or on the right of the keyboard. I "play" the game on Dosbox.
@jarvtuom Try shift + instead. That might work for you. You might also have a joystick that is configured to use the throttle control and in that case I don't think the + key will work--turn off the joystick in the setup config before you run the game. I think it's something like "setup.exe" or something. Also, try vogons.zetafleet com -- they have excellent help for old games in their forums.

when I upgraded to longbow apache NONE of my guided missiles would hit ANYTHING - was so weird and annoying, no problems before then they just would head towards target fine but miss. strange, did my 14 yr old head in.
I was hit in the fuel tank and was leaking out... I could possibly have headed to the FARP and then back to base though. If it hadn't been for that dang 2S6!!
Microprose and helicopters - sweet combination all the way back to 85!

Ever heard about dropping Chaff or Flares to avoid the "we´re hit!"-Sound? usually x or y for flares!

Don't use the NumPad, just the keys at the top of the keyboard.
