sawdust causes respiratory problems in guinea pigs-just so you know. its too dusty for them and since their faces are close to the ground its even worse than it would be for a rabbit, ferret, etc. we use pellets vs. sawdust for our guineas.

There is nothing more cute than a guinee pig. Had one as a kid, she was with me till I was 16. She lived pretty long for a guinee pig. I mated her with a male borrowed from the pet shop, and she had babies Christmas night with everyone watching. Such silly looking little animals, so adorable. Never got another one. But I think about it sometimes. Nice setup. Hope you enjoy it here in the USA!

would you recommend sawdust as a full time bedding?

i have a problem with fleece for one of my guinea pigs, she goes underneath it and sits on the plastic and stays under there (i think shes quite nervous) and she's taught my other guinea pig to go underneath the fleece so now they poop all over the plastic and its a lot harder to clean :c

i'm really stuck on what bedding i should use that would be appropriate for them!

(also fleece bedding is quite time consuming for me)

Hello Piggiepigpigs. (: I have 2 guinea pigs of my own, Mia & Beans. Your cage is great, cute pigs. If you don't mind, I need some help with answers. I use soft, dusty paper bedding, but I was wondering is the wood shaving were better, such as saw dust. I hear guinea pigs can get internal health issues from wood chips, but the dust in mine seems like it can give them respiratory problems. I'm interested in building a cage like yours. Please give me a list of materials I can use to start. Thanks.

@Hardcoreawesomeness5 Hey, I know I am not the uploader, but I can answer question two! It would be a perfect size (floor) for the rabbit, but yes, it would need to be taller. Probably about three grids taller to prevent your bun from jumping out. Good luck!

@Anolink Although I am not piggiepigpigs, I can answer that for her lol :) the answer is:

If you have one piggie and you are 100% sure that it is like a 2x3 cage (One grid is 14 inches so your cage is 28x42 inches) For one pig, yes that is enough. For two pigs, hmm....... well, for three, nonononono it i not big enough. Back to two, a store bought cage usually has ramps or levels or like the sides are at an angle, so my best bet is no that is not big enough. Hope that helps!

@wolfsheart100 I've never heard of a guinea pig escaping from a c&c cage... I know they can but its very very rare. Guinea pigs aren't jumpers or climbers like Chinchillas. Guinea pigs do fine with c&c cages with open tops, unless there is a cat or dog that goes into that room or un-fixed males next to a cage of females.

haha yeah fleece can get smelly if you dont wash it. but saw dust can give your guinea pig lots of different diseases that could be fatal. but hay works good for a bedding. just sayin

@Casey97531 Its not really saw dust. Its wood shavings but in the UK people tend to call it saw dust. Also HAY DOES NOT WORK AS BEDDING! They eat it and if it was a bedding it would be covered in wee and poo and it wouldn't be healthy. The best bedding is wood shavings (but do research before), fleece, or carefresh/recycled paper bedding.
