I love this scene in the movie, the score is awesome and the dialogue so cheesy it's great. Also what a cast for the main musketeers, Irons, Byrne, Depardieu and Malkovich, alongside DiCaprio. one of the best 90s films ever.
this film is where you realise how good Leonardo DiCaprio is he rocks in a role that in if the film was made today would be played by a lesser actor maybe an actor who made his name as a sparkley vampire - don't say his name, but Leonardo rules so glad i was a teenager in the titanic years good acting and hot.
The veteran actors playing the musketeers are the highlight of this movie. Some of Jeremy Irons' lines are priceless. As for the rest, well, they should have shot the casting director. The heroine looked like a drag queen and the doomed young hero would be believable as a Bakersfield burger flipper in a road movie.
I never cared for this movie on the whole but this scene of the charge always gave me goosebumps thinking of charging into almost certain death and with the honor the soldiers had couldnt aim and look they just fired and then couldnt fight honoring the brave too much
"Magnificent Valor"...shit...if that was me, I'da been like, "look at these dumb mufuckaz." Then I would've started placing bets on who would get shot first. I wasn't that impressed with this movie, but it was still ok. Too much dialogue, not enough action--same thing as Gangs of New York. I'm all for a good story, but can I get some action please...
@laylo1717 But still, to the four of them filled up the hallway, so the could only really miss if they intentionally shot high. I did miss the closing their eyes part though.
I think they did intentionally miss, D'Artagnan was their captain. So I don't think they wanted to him and his three friends. And in the end, they were completely on their side.
I wish they have killed that little bitch Loius. If I was there, i woulnd't let him locked up.
I would get all of that guns in that place and waste it all in his balls and knees, then i would get the mask and put on him and let him slowly bleed to death. (no i am not a Psicho.)
This movie was amazing. Underrated is not the word for it.. who cares about critics..what do they know? PEOPLE are the critics and PEOPLE liked it. It is a beautiful movie, beautiful time in history and serves great purposes and lessons to life.
Leo really knows how to act. I like him a lot! He is up there with the good actors. I wish more movies with storylines as epic as this were made more often...now you got stupid stuff like..animation crap..or saw..or worse..paranormal crap..
It was because the acting was considered quite poor. Plot was also fairly predictable. I would give it 7/10 because I wasn't really convinced by the acting myself. The romance between the queen and D'Artagnan was also a bit unrealistic

Were those hair extensions in Leo or was it his natural hair? This movie being just a year away from Titanic, I don't think it was enough time to grow hair of that length.
I think this movie was underrated as it came in the aftermath of Titanic and people saw Leo in a different role. On the contrary Leo proved himself more in this movie with the double role which he amazingly did so well. He convinced me that he is a bad and a good king, Thanks God that there are people like you who find this movie magnificent as it is one. I watched this movie like over 10 times and I still like it and especially the Battle scene.
Yeap...i agree...for those of us that grew up with the legend of Ntartanian and the 3 musketeers that final charge scene was the BEST scene ever created in a film.
I loved how Dartanyians men could shoot with there eyes open. his men were very loyal and prideful to know that Dartanyian was there captain. I cant spell his name lol. but he is truely a hero to his men.
this is the saddest part of the movie... but really good, the young musketeers have respect for the older and wiser musketeer, i love they look away as they are firing... I will always love this movie for long i live....
@oldlonesomesong: maybe not for you it is not sad, But for me it is sad... i love D'Artagnan, he is the best and the hottest in the movie..... Gabriel Byrne is a great actor. Love him;) :*

@SLPIFan yes, it was a very good movie. underrated? well, it was rather contrary to "20 Years After", the original novel by Alexandre Dumas, which had a portion called "The Man in the Iron Mask". as far as being a "faithful adaptation" to dumas' work, therein lies the failure. but still a good movie in/of itself
Un Pour Tous, Tous Pour Un!

In the book, only Aramis and Porthos take part in overthrowing the king. They succeed, but Fouquet gives them away, so the original king is returned, and the prisoner goes to an isolated prison. In the meantime, Porthos dies on Belle Isle while he and Aramis fight off hundreds of soldiers from the King's army. Athos dies of a heartbreak when he finds that Raoul killed himself in war. D'Artagnan is submissive to the king, and in the last chapter, dies in a battle (very victoriously)
(2nd) Aramis is the only one left alive, however, D'Artagnan's last words are: "Athos and Porthos, au revoir until we meet again. Aramis, adieu forever."
Though he was the last, because of his deceitfulness throughout the book, this line makes me think he's probably going to hell. It's a very dark ending.
Yes, I agree it doesn't go along with the book. But the book had quite a dark ending. It's not a way you want to end a movie, and I like the movie's ending better than the book.
God I really do love this scene. Just an amazing moment having them charge like that. I probably would have tried not to hit them as well. Just close your eyes and let the gun drift a bit so your probably going to hit the ground or the walls. There are just some great movie scenes and this is one of them.
Yeah, they miss on purpose, VajzeFierakee. You see one soldier actually closing his eyes, to keep from aiming. They can't bear to kill their heroes. And when they realize all their friends missed as well, they know they really are in it together, all for one, and then they can refuse to listen to Louis.
they respected them so much that they all turned thir heads or closed there eyes they didnt wana see who they shot nut under the kings orders they had to shoot

yeah true, but they didn't know that when they were born. and if they don't take the throne, who will?
tazarooni89 4 years ago
Surely if he's d'Artagnan's son, that makes him and Louis both bastards, and not eligible to be heir to the throne?
