  • (cont.) I do agree that Mauricio's initial position is not bio-mechanically optimized for the greatest propulsive force backward IN GENERAL, however, every swimmer (and person) is different, and that may be the best way for him. It would take some trial and error with other positions to determine his best starting position, IMO.

  • This video actually doesn't provide enough info to determine who's start is "better". The goal is to get to the far end of the pool first, so the video would have to show how far they are going off their starts and in what amount of time. I would normally coach a swimmer to attempt something closer to Mauricio's start, as it disrupts less water at the surface, thereby allowing for a greater carry through of the momentum off the wall, but if he went to deep, it would be counter-productive.

  • umm im nit too sure about this but i think matts is better... i dont think you're supposed to go that high in a start. im no pro, and once again im not too sure about this. btw aren't you supposed to tuck yourself in toward the starting block more? im pretty sure that gives you more force.

  • @adamroflll that is definately true. im on swim team and i was taught to do just as you put it.

  • which one is better or more efficient

  • Wow i need my start to look like that its awesome

  • Yes, you can do this type of start in a meet. It's very difficult, and takes a lot of strength and practice, but it can be pretty fast when done correctly.

  • Can you do that? in a meet? does Michael Phelps eve do that?
