@zzyzx0788 Back then it was very common to marry your cousin. Even thoug Darwin was familiar with the negative impact of inbreeding in doves, he wasn't sure that the same laws would apply to humans. He had to bury two of his children for that, and that idea would haunt him untill his death.

Did he indeed? I would appreciate an explanation, then, of the biblical claim that we all descend from one man and one woman. A certain amount of incest would have been necessary for the growth of the population; or did god make a special case?

Two other things: 1) it's forbade not 'forbiddened', and 2) Darwin's wife was an extremely devout Christian. As have been the monarchies of Europe for the last millennia. Marriage to close relatives was once more acceptable, normal, and even expected.

to address what your explaining, genetic defects occur because when copulation occurs between blood related partners, whether they be cousins or siblings, the DNA that make up the zygotes chromosomes are similar or the same which causes the zygotes chromosomes to be copys, this is the cause of of many birth defects including down-syndrome

You're right. Inbreeding can cause recessive traits to manifest far more frequently, and most detrimental traits are recessive because if they were dominate they would be harder to pass on.

lol indeed, rather foxy. In the UK marrying one's first cousin is still legal to this day. The genetic consequences aren't nearly as serious as marrying a sibling so I don't see any problem whatsoever with it. If it weren't for the significant genetic problems of having children with a sibling, I wouldn't see anything strange about that either. Which, incidentally, is why we have evolved a revulsion to incest I would imagine.
