the best and clearest intro to gb. thank you! your attention to detail and care are appreciated... please do an intro for loop-based projects using the virtual instruments that come with it.
i don't think its necessary to make a new track to get rid of custom volume/pan. you can just un-highlight the little blue light next to "Track Volume"/"Track Pan" and voila, volume and pan controls are un-ghosted.
can you explain the sound i'm having a problem with the sound like when i plug in my ear phone and turn on the monitor while i'm talking or playing music i will hear myself and the music but when i unplug my head phones i can't hear the music anymore or myself even when the monitor is turned on why is that? and this still happened when i plug back in my head phones!!! it only works again when i just quit and reopen the program so yeah why is that?
@meowey55 You shouldn't have the monitor turned on for a microphone while having headphones unplugged because you will get feedback right away. The track default is to have feedback protection on which will lower the volume if feedback is detected.
The other thing that might be happening is the Mac tracks volume levels separately for heaphones vs the system audio, so it might be turned up for the headphones, but turned down for the system.
Do you know how to set up the Korg NanoPad with Garageband? I can get it to play certain notes, but I can't figure out how to edit the controls. I'd appreciate any help.
Two ways: if you record an iChat audio conversation it will automatically split each voice into separate tracks. Otherwise you'll need an audio interface device that has multiple outputs. For example, a certain four track mixers that have a USB out will give you four channels that can be individual tracks in Garageband.
because i have Behringer Eurowpower PMP2000 800-Watt 10-Channel Powered Mixer and a Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 USB-Audio Interface and i was wondering if i could split all the mics i connect to the mixer. or do i need a better interface
The U-CONTROL UCA202 only has stereo out which means that you can have up to two simultaneous tracks in garageband when you're using it. Whatever you want in track one, mix all the way to the left on your Eurowpower, and whatever you want on track 2 mix all the way to the right. Then in the track properties in GB make sure it's set to only use the left or the right channel and not both of them.
I'm new to Garage Band, I would like to say thanks for taking the time to give a good entry level explanation of garage band, you are really helping us newbies who want to get more out of this software starting with a good foundation, you have really helped me, Thanks, good job.
When you talk about the track PAN and VOL settings, and go on to describe making track pan and volume curves, you stress that it is important to have the main PAN and VOL controls set as required, because they become greyed out. You then describe a complicated work around.
It is actually very simple. When you edit a curve, a blue light is lit next to drop down which selects between "Track Volume" or "Track Pan". If you click it, the light goes out, and the main control is no longer greyed out.
Me and a friend have a problem with simular programs, (His is mix craft) Mine is garage band ofcourse, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to make a sliding sound, how to make notes go up in pitch into eachother into extent without starting a new tone sound, it's hard to explain over text, but think of
^ and v representing lower pitch,
When we do it, we get
Do-^Do-^^Do-^^^Do-^^^^Do (Think of Legend of zelda ocarina of time sound when you get a new item from a chest)
Garageband doesn't have a way for you to do that from within the program, but pitch shifting IS part of MIDI, so if you had a MIDI sequencer that supported it, such as a keyboard with a pitch shift knob, you'd be able to record that in Garageband just fine.
is there any control over the master track being stereo or mono, or is there a way to capture say the right side of an audio track and duplicate it into a full stereo track left & right.
No control over the master track that way, If I want mono I usually either make sure all my separate tracks are mono, or just save as mono when I export.
And I haven't found a way to isolate the right or left side of a stereo track, but let me know if you figure that out! I'd really like to know how to do that in GB.
It's easy to take a mono track and duplicate it on to two tracks, panning left and right to simulate stereo. I do that a lot. Usually mix them different.
Is it best to work through some sort of mixer or is the software advanced enough to have a mic input direct? If so, what is a good mic to use for general recording that can be used with a Mac? Mainly for instruments if you have any experience. Thanks.
Mate! that was really, really helpful...Thanks very much. I was lookin' high n low for info on how to fade in-out...(Everything else i worked out myself) Thanks again! Mike from Manchester, England.
murry, when he meant t-pain style voice, he ment auto tune -.- and you cant use garage band to auto tune your voice unless you buy the program for 400$ and use cool edit, or cubase or somthing else
Great video to anyone new like my self. But i do have a question. How can i loop (this might be the wrong terminology) a section of a song so i can hear just the highlighted part over and over again with out cropping or messing up the audio segment?
Easy! There is a button for it at the bottom next to the play/rewind buttons. Look for arrows going in a circle.
When you click it, it will make a horizontal yellow bar at the top by your timeline. The yellow part is what will be looped. You can just drag the edges of it to loop a larger or smaller area.
Simple, just move your mouse over the top right edge of a sound clip on the time line and the cursor will turn into a circle arrow. Then just drag it out to how long you want it.
Not out of the box in this version. I haven't tried the newest one yet so it might be in there. Also, it supports AU format plug-ins so you might be able to find one that way.
Just like you would expect. Once it's highlighted you can press the delete key, or you can hit Apple+x (the same thing you would do to 'cut' text in a Word document).
Well, Apple released a new version of Garageband and I haven't bought it yet. I didn't think it was worth my time to make a tutorial about outdated software.
These kind of tutorials are a good use of You Tube. Thanks for the schoolin'.

How can I get free loops for garageband ?
Takencxp 2 years ago
It comes with a bunch, but you can loop any audio file that it is able to import. So if you can find a bunch of mp3 loops, GB would handle them fine.

where is a good source to get em that you know of ?
