  • he just makes it look so easy, such a fantastic guitar player... and so passionite

  • WOW.....One only needs to listen.....no comment needed!

  • in a way he looks like ben stiller :D

  • @deraiper92 no, ben stiller looks like him.

  • Nils is right up there with Carlos,Jimi,Keith,Al(dM) and a few other chaps.Where would Crazy Horse(Neil Young9have been w/o Nlls?

  • 6 people don't deserve any mercy

  • @Sven24111969

    RIGHT!!

  • Rockpalast........dem WDR sei Dank.

  • Er ist unterschätzt. Schon immer. Aber er hat es drauf. Habe diese Platte immer noch. Kann sie immer noch hören. Weil sie ist einfach nur g................no mercy........

  • The most underrated, underapreciated guitarist ever. Saw him twice at Mohegan Sun Casino and wow simply awesome, only guitarist I would rate ahead of Nils is Brian May

  • Can you believe this guy has never been in the Rolling Stone 100 greatest guitarists chart? !!

  • I'd say that Nils Lofgren is another underappreciated master for sure.

  • I could listen to the first 21 sec forever!

  • @cadwithoutend so could I , never heard such a good intro , and played without a pleck with the fingers, simplyfantastic!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's my cousin

  • Stunning, simply brilliant.

  • instant classic.

  • så jävla bra

  • My last name is Lofgren too:)

  • This guy always struck me as a more electrified, Euro-version of Jackson Browne. But I was 8 when I made that discernment. Now that I'm older, I'm not so sure that Browne doesnt owe more to Lofgren, than the other way around..

  • nisse du rockar!

  • great thing is that he is after closing his solo carrer joining bruce springsteens band :)

  • Incredibly tasteful lead guitar... Nils is underrated.

  • number 7

  • @wshoward11

So he's a douche for remembering that Vick is a dog murderer?

  • fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Toujoursjuste said it all... Great Guy on and off stage and in my mind the best (Rhythm) Guitarist of all... So much damn soul... I dig Genius that takes time out to share a pint of Guinness and a j(t)oke after hours! Rock on Nils!

  • The most underated musician ever. One of a kind and to people that know of his music, one of the best.

  • i like the part where he sings

  • I ' m not a look around for the good stuff deep enough dude , but while subscribing to XM Sirius satellite radio , heard this dude on the underground garage by Little Steven from the E street band & the Sopranos. Had to look Nils up , with this song he has some moves and makes some moves . What a way

  • What is this song about?

  • @Medic1911 A championship boxing match.

  • Great performer, one of the very very best guitarists. Great gig the other night. Respect. Perhaps always in the shadow of Neil (The Man) and The Boss, but no mean songwriter.

Isn't it great when you see these guys live. Uplifting and stays with you for ever.

    Great work Nils.

  • Rubbish!

  • Through the years he rocked on his Stratocaster, his guitar lost his ' virgininty ', it got a soul... Flip it Nils!!

  • Is that Bill Murray on bass?

  • one of my all time favorite artists

    followed him forever

    until he joined

    Bruce

who i cannot stand at all

  • Now THERE is someone who his UNDERRATED!! He is a REALLY great guitarist, singer and songwriter!!!!!

  • @shockme25159 very true this for instance is one of them

  • Another one of my late 70s obscure favorites. This song is hard to find in the live, electric version. This video is a great rendition of this song which preaches at what cost for victory and success?.............when do we show compassion? when it'sconvenient or non-impacting? Give it up for Nils Lofgren's guitarwork, finishing footwork, and cool headband.

  • das musik ! liebe diesen song .

  • it doesn´t matter , where he comes from , he is a very good gitarrplayer

  • I first saw Nils with The Santa Monica Flyers [Neil Youngs band 73] on the legendary and infamous "tonights the night tour" after that i saw him loads of times especially the mean fiddler and jazz cafe uk venues .A true muscian

    regards

    jimmy

  • Swedish-Italian, great combination...

  • One of my favorites by Nils.

  • one of my lost favorites; always very underrated as a front man...

  • très grand guitariste ,j'ai plusieurs cds ,et toujours un plaisir d'écouter

ce grand de la six cordes

  • love the end!

  • Den bästa låt av Nils Löfgren jag har hört!

The best song I´ve ever heard of Nils Lofgren!

  • Check him out with Springsteen on 'Because the Night' Live in Paris 1985. Incredible

  • One of my favs! inspirational guitarist/musician

  • a very great musician...i love ya

  • Which guitar is very similar with Nils' Fender 61' Vintage Stratocaster?? What a sound!

  • Comment removed

  • its nice to find a video that has tom in it too!

  • I love the first 20 seconds! omg so nice

  • proud to say i would NOT be the guitarist i am without nils

  • @dmjc2154 Do you have the tab for this and or "back it up" perchance? Please.

  • i don`t have right here, but i would try to google it

  • I did did try that but the tab for back it up doesn't exist online. If you do have it can you email it to me. I'll PM my adress

  • Hey, you got knopfler in my EJ.

  • love the outro, great moves lol

  • Nils is from my neighborhood, which is cool, but like 14 years older, I think. He was a competitive gymnast. He also plays the piano so beautifully, I don't know whether he's better on the Strat by now or the keyboards. But he appears content with his life. He also ROCKS! The rumour is that the Stones even gave him a look-see when Mick Taylor left (the same is true of Rory Gallagher). Neither were addicts, so Wood was the unfortunate choice. He can play, but can't stay sober enough on stage.

  • Nils would have been good with the Stones...

  • @63Brummie

But hey he is fantastic with Bruce Springsteen. . .

  • The truth is, he is fantastic with or without other musicians. Even on a solo acustic tour.

  • @4rainbowed Rory Gallagher would never have needed the stones , he's a better player than anyone from the stones, probably one of the greatest blues men ever.

  • Not an early classic but still a CLASSIC Nils track. Put Him Away Don't Let Him Recover. His Eye's Are Flooded He Can't Even See. No Mercy No Quarter.

  • he has his on style

  • I was never a big fan of Nils Lofgrens music or songs, but as a guitarist myself I have always admired his playing, he is really something special. Great guitar player

  • Yay, merciless guitar , Nils !

  • dude lofgren is pretty much the best last name ever

  • The outro kicks ass!

  • grin

  • Cool guy....the drum water looks cool, but the microphones sure don't like it...

  • Wonderful song

  • Whats up with the water on the drumkit?

  • It looks cool, that's what.

  • Its a sweatathon

  • einfach klasse

  • 3:42 - 4:06 fantastic!

  • nils is the balls.I used to live next door to him in maine

  • Then i guess, you heard some rocking guitarplaying often?

  • Nils is a very complete musician (classic formation, violin, piano, bandoneon, accordeon, guitars...+ great singer + gymnastics!, + so good teacher, etc...) and a very great composer. He is so friendly and good to people, down to hearth guy, great father, etc...

Those Vai & Petrucci are just guitarists, even they are amazingly good.

In Nils, we like Nils the first.

  • Well, Vai is also a great guy, almost a comedian, and very versatile as a composer, arranger etc.

People seem to think that only because you're able to play guitar fast, you have to suck at everything else. That is not the case.

  • @toujoursjuste down to hearth! yeahhhh!!! yeee frenchito

  • look at his hands in the pieces he only sings.

    He's is america's greatest guitarist

  • I prefer the original version on the "Nils" album. Unfortunately it was never released on CD

  • Comment removed

  • Nils is not only the best guitarist alive in the usa, but the best writer. yer a jerk, and a hairband putz.

  • America's best guitarist.

    Nils.

  • Ever heard of that Vai guy...?

Nils is a great guitar player, but you can't compare him to guys such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson or John Petrucci.

  • You can, in my opinion.

  • Idolizing Mozart and Beethoven and saying they are the bests, it's ok. If I say Chopin or Paganini are the bests, it's ok too, I think. It's a matter of taste. And, if course we can compare them, yes you can. Yes we can !

  • Well... They're still completely different types of composers, just like Vai and Lofgren don't share too many similarities. They're all great in their own way.

  • Isn't he swedish..?

  • Actually his father is swedish and his mother is italian

  • Actually he's American , he was born in Chicago, his mother is Italian while his father is Swedish

  • No I heard he was born in Chicago!

  • Comment removed

  • @bissemannen thats really cool

  • @bissemannen

No, he´s born on 21st June 1951 in Chicago. He has nothing to do with Sweden.

  • @NightwishAndi I think his father or grandfather came from sweden. But he was born in Chicago.

  • @NightwishAndi Partly true, he's father was from Sweden and mother from Italy.

  • @bissemannen Swedish father.

  • @bissemannen he was born in chicago

  • hey guys...nice to see some Nils fans here.....god he is great....

  • My favourite Nils Lofgren Track. Another excellent track Is "Rusty Gun". Worth a listen.

  • That's a great song, with a great acoustic sole at the end, brilliant for some one so young at the time

  • Interestingly enough I think in earlier years he was more of a classical musician.

  • Yes classical accordion, there,s a great video of him playing with an accordion group, I think in Sweden, must have been on tour.... where did that come from? Its great!

  • I'm prod that his father is from the same country as me.. SWEDEN. he is great !

  • truemmerweibchen---- Ja --das ist HERZ---

  • hammer geil :D love it!!!!

  • Steal away is on th A&m records 25th anniversay classics volume 13 Nils Lofgren cd.....no other singers noted on this cd.....Pure Nils!

  • Cootsa, I think you mean Robbie Dupree?

  • no, I have the cd of Nils Lofgren singing "steal away"...Just wondering if there is a video that goes with it?

  • Does anyone even remember him singing "Steal Away: in the 1980s?

  • I saw that tour I'M sure he played it... it was on the Nils CD produced by Bob Ezrin, with some songs written with Lou Reed...I remember them playing it on the Old gray, with an old Mickey Mouse vid,I stayed up all night to watch it, a great song Nils at his best

  • what a great performance

  • Yes . . . amazing . . .

  • Hey!, doe anyone have a vid of "steal away" by Nils Lofgren? I have the cd, but would love to see him perform this song! He's fantastic!

  • I was there...he's effing fantastic

  • Anyone else thinking "Zoolander"?

  • Go , Nils ! Go Sweden +Sicily ! !!

  • go nils! he understands what it takes!

  • Fender makes the best guitars

  • Oh good times!

  • Heard him with the e street band, never really bothered with his solo stuff till now but this is great. Real nice!

  • listen to no mercy and baltimore. he gets it

  • my family know nils well :)

  • Awesome.

  • Saw him in the 80th with Bruce Springsteen in East-Berlin... and solo two times in the 90th... everytime good concert, excellent guitar, very simple but very good live performance... and this song played in a neverending tape during one of may best se. ever!

  • Best guitarist in America today.

  • brill

  • ... the greatest guitar on earth.... ;-)

    beste wishes...

    oldoldraven :-)

  • The consummate professional.

  • One of the greatest riffs of all time

  • No one can slate nils for NOTHING, he's great with what he does with the guitar, he does things no one else woud think of lol, thanks for the video !

  • Boring part four.

The pickups are made by Bill Lawrence, they have Blade type pole pieces.

  • Boring part five.

Do you have any idea how "tall" he is? He seems to be somewhere around 5'4" (1.60 m). :S

  • That's probably about right, i have met him on several occasions, and he is realy short, but as Yoda would say "Judge me by my size you should not".

  • Stupid comment.

  • Your comment is not very constructive either, my friend.

At least mine got me some information I was interested in. What did yours get you, or society in general?

  • Boring part three.

I think Nils thought it might improve the sound of the pickups

  • ive got a lot of his albums but he is the only fella that the guitar looks bigger than him, i dont mean that as an insult

  • Yeah, I only noticed how short he was in that FOX News Network vid.

  • I met Nils years ago...my band was opening for the Hooters in Wilkes Barre PA (Kings College)...Nils was playing at the Station that night also...as soon as we were done my fiance and I drove over to see Nils...what a great night...he was unbelievable and the funny thing was the Hooters came over after they were done...so my wife got to meet them in a more social setting....Nil's band was hanging out..Nils made a brief appearance...I still have a pick from him (he doesn't use one very often)

  • See that pickguard on his Strat, it's hand made out of Oak.

  • Why would anyone want to mark MITCHWILD's comment as spam and give it thumbs down? I think it's an interesting and relevant fact. :)

  • Thanks Ritchie! the pickguard was made by Nils guitar tech Larry Cragg, who also played in his band at the time, see.... i can be even more boring if provoked!

  • DAS IST ein SAU GEILER SOng

  • He IS AWESOME AND THE TONE ON HIS GUITAR IS THE BEST OF ALL TIME!!!!

  • you're right there currenman....he's amazing...go see him whenever you can!

  • Schade das es nur noch so wenige gibt wie Nils Lofgren.

  • This song is just ...... FA-BU-LOUS and Nils is just IN-CRE-DI-BRUCE-LEE-A-COUS-TI-COUS-TICLY a wonderful guitarist.

  • He's from sweden and his... I don't know how you say it in English, but his brother is my friends dad. And Personally, I think that's really cool :D

  • Nils is an American, born in Chicago, Illinois.

    His parents were Swedish/Italian :P
