This is remarkable. Anyone who says there is a big difference is fooling themselves, I guarantee I could fool them all with a blind a/b comparison, nevermind if the sounds are in a mix, then it gets even more difficult to differentiate.
I just wish that VST emulations get better and better in order to kill the hysterical analog market; the prices are so sick for instable old analog synths...you can't afford them any more so I welcome every effort that can punish the insane second hand analog market. (Especially on Ebay) lol
SOLD!! I just picked up the VFX OPX-PRO version from you guys today (I'm on a Mac) Thanks so much for the great product. This is HANDS DOWN the BEST VST re-creation of any synth that I've ever heard./played period. I mean it sounds like i have the real deal! WICKED HOT AND WORTH EVERY PENNY!

i think anyone attempting to make products that do emulations should do a/b comparisons just like this. I had an ob-x for a short time..and it's a really awesome sounding thing.. this software is really fun. i think it still needs some work to be spot on..but it will give you the vibe (which is most important for inspiring music to happen)
That's what I call an ACCURATE emulation! :D I wouldn't blame the Arturia instruments, they also sound pretty awesome, but this one is surely better. ;)
The original is pure, no distortion, the softsynth is ok for a aqmateur, but a pro would like to use the real thing......It does'nt take Einstein to understand that :O)
On the other hand, carrying 20 synths is no the trend anymore, like the song goes...If I had money, I'll tell you what I do, I'd go downtown buy a analog synth or two''
I'll give you that it's much better than most other hw emulations/simulations out there but musically it's still not inspiring like the hardware sound, there's no feel of wonder in the sound. But I don't think that it can't be done - I used to think so but I've since through lots of testing found some products that get so close that you can't tell without doing a/b comparison.
There's probably sweet spots for this plug that combined with some high end reverb product will sound just right.
as much as an analog synth geek that i am, i think sonicprojects version comes pretty damn close to the original...it'll never be 100%, but whatever..its worth the money to buy this..
i've got the arturia pack as well, and they don't sound half as good as their hardware emulations...
and yeah, i own all these actual analog synths as well...
This is an excellent achievement. But as I type this I can tell whether the OBX or OPX is playing. Yet I don't even own the OBX, yet :-)
The noticeable difference is in the compression. I imagine there has been some effort to 'phatten up' the OPX through compression. The mid-bass definitely sounds a bit artificial. I think if you could dial this out and play the OPX through a tube pre-amp (far more natural compression), it'd probably sound even closer.
the software is superb but the issue is not just sound. Its the feeling you get playing a vintage synth as you do driving a supercar compared to an arcade game.I just feel the actual Experience of playing an olf synth cant be replicated and This effects what we play and record .Music i hear recorded on old synths does not just sound better , it Feels better than vsti music and its not my imagination.
OK $150 for the pro version...God knows how much for an original bit of hardware IF you could ever find one for sale.
AND, if you are actually recording (or for that matter playing live) how many of the punters do you actually think are going to give a rats arse as to whether it was was made with a VST or a Hardware Synth, let alone be able to hear the difference when sitting in a mix...give me strength! Will the pretentious wank ever die out in electronic music?
It's all in the resonance. Notice that the Oberheim has a more thick resonance, more juicy. Once you start to crank the resonance in the OP-X it shows it's thin character. It's not necessarily bad, but I prefer the OB, thank you very much.
So close and yet so far. One is like watching a sunset in hawaii the other is like seeing a picture of a sunset in hawaii. and then when you consider that youtube sound its more like seeing a video of you watching a sunset in hawaii and the other is like showing us a picture of a sunset on youtube.
Thanks for this video. As far as emulation goes, the people who created this software have done a better job than any other synth software company I have heard. For example, I have heard Arturia products versus they original, and they sound 100 times different. With this software, I can hear a difference, but it is VERY slight . . . I would say they sound about 95% alike.
Thanks for this comparison video, I know it must have been time consuming.
@subby33 Sounds great!!! Thanks Sounds really good dispite the limitations of BoobYube! I have a bunch of old Rolands: Juno 106, Juno 60, SH 101. Also, 2 Oberheim Matrix 6R's. Nothing beats voltage. You feel it in your loins. (Trying to keep it clean but you know what I mean! It makes your soul dance!!!)
I don't think that's quite the case. It just sounds to me like the filter cutoff is a little off between the two. There's a lot of variance from one unit to the next because Oberheim used a few sources for the parts through the years. Could be that there's an OB-X out there that sounds exactly like this. I'd like someone to do a side-by-side with identical units.
i am a vsti lover but Unfortunately I have to admit that this vsti sounds like a cheap mp3 copy of the real thing, especially in the high frequencies

Un-freakin'-believable! That's awesome. It sounds almost exactly like the hardware synth it was modeled after. Totally going on my to-buy list.

This sounds great! Would love a Matrix 12 / Xpander soft synth... that would be awesome....

I wonder if the hardware sounds much more top end heavy then why they didnt just equalise the digital.

btw I just noticed this video is bit old. There's a new version out, would be nice to heard comparison of the new to the old and the hardware.

This is one reason people need to continue investing in hardware if they want p ure sound. Digital is always a step down. Go non-digital! :D

i think the obx sounds more harsher or edgy. i'm absolutely no software guy but big up for this emulation, very well done.

Truly remarkable emulation - one of the best out there,
I was little picky over the resonance behaviour - for instance in this famous 'tom sawyer' patch, but this is as good as it gets.
and you've got an nice condition OB-X there;D
