  • Best frame Ever!

  • Not from a statistical standpoint but from a pure talent perspective he was the best ever. A great potter with a great safety game. Plus his showmanship was Ali-esque. RIP.

  • the break of 19 was so hardly fought!!

  • haha 69

  • Best break ever surely.

  • disable or reduce the volume of the right side audio, to get rid of most of the chinese rant!!!

  • still ckassic!! ye i watched again! hee hee

  • i am new to snooker , people said he uses a bad (high) stance

but in the video it seems he is having a really low stance?

  • RIP

  • This break embodies Alex Higgins and Higgins embodies fast and loose.

  • he kept playing bad position

  • People compare Higgins personality to O'sullivan's. The difference is, Higgins was a likeable cunt. O'sullivan is just a cunt.

  • HÉy_Anÿ_gúys_wáÑt_t0_chAt_wÏth_mê

  • all this footage can be optained from snookerhardrive@gmail.co.uk please e-mail for a full list available on one usb hard drive enclosure

  • The best snooker players in the world should always leave themselves simple pots

    =============================

True. However this was in the early days of televised snooker. After a long session of snooker the table was playing very quickly (even by today's standards).

A lot of Alex's (and Jimmy's) shots went out of position due to the call ball going a few inches further than expected.

  • 2:10

Always struck me as a ridiculous pot.

Hard enough on a 9 ball table but on a snooker table practically impossible.

  • What a snooker hero.Duh winning. In fairness that was the ultimate bottle clearance and as Steve Davis said only Alex Higgins could do that.

  • in their hayday. the clearance by alex in the penultimate frame was the bes break ever in snooker history and in my opinion the pot on the blue using check side to bring the cueball back to the reds off the side cushion under so much pressure was truly amazing. alex and jimmy nothing to choose between them really. except that shot of all time by alex .

  • this blue was really hell of a shot, fairly crazy to play ot like that. but if it work´s out like that it is the best shot anybody could ever play... and all these other difficult pots, in this situation, ubelievable snooker!

  • nice break..cept' for those damn chinks commentating

  • i feel for jimmy he would have won the final that year in paticular but he still great

  • nice potting the cue balls.the risk were very high

  • hardest break but very classic great attempt

  • Yes I totally agree, He is the legend, he is the creator of snooker. At that time, all middle level players were given jobs in snooker board, but alex was still playing as a player.. although i believe he was snooker board himself... May God bless his soul... Ameen!

  • the stupid chinese commentator kept grumbling about his posture and how "un-orthodox" his play was. FUCK YOU YOU KNOW NOTHING!!!

no wonder all chinese players, however good they play, have absolutely no passion or pace on the table whatsoever.

  • check out my channel when i myself recreate that incredible blue that alex higgins did in this video. Alex Higgins = Legend

  • Can anyone remember his gimmicky break , he used to roll the cue ball into the reds of the side cushion?LOL LOL.

  • alex higgins was like the george best of snooker, both brilliant at what they did but never did their full potensiall unfortunatly :/

  • John Spenser said this could be the frame of the championship, what an understatement, got to be the best break ever and the truth of the matter is only Higgins could have pulled it off.If you d'ont believe me try it yourselft without any pressure.

  • 2:53 - Got to be one of the best shots of all time! Under so much pressure that if he misses the pot, it's frame, match and world championship over. But he still manages to get a phenomenal amount of side on it and bring it back from the other side of the middle pocket. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Rest in peace, Alex!

  • baldy egg head move when a legend tells you to

  • @jaymac271 what are you talking about?

  • oho good player hard balls. But why alex Higgins win

  • "Tables of reds

    Is dancing with me

    Cush to cush"

  • The best break in snooker ever.ruined by a voice over

  • It's a fantastic break , however I was listening to this on headphones and I thought there was a chinese in my house.

  • best blue i ever seen - bottom left hand side on cue ball is unreal, cue balls going away past the centre hole and ends up near the black spot - ive watched it so many times and tried it counless times and never got near, timing on that shot was 100% maybe only jimmy at his best or ronnie at his could do that maybe, fabulous shot.

  • @0114owl1867 totally agree, that blue has got the be the best shot ever. It looks almost impossible. Pure genius from the great man!

  • @0114owl1867 I've seen neil robertson play that shot. It takes the most ridiculous cue power. Way beyond us mere mortals!

  • god bless alex

  • Probably the ugliest break of all time, but the shot making is second to none. RIP.

  • STUNNING POT AT 2:58

  • Can somebody please shut asian reporter tricia takanawa up in the background

  • Who's that dickhead from The Pacific' talking over this fine moment in British sport?

  • @OneBillyTurner It's a Chinese commentator explaining the action (in Mandarin) to the Chinese public who've recently become interested in the game. There's now more of them watching than all other viewers put together. You might notice the Chinese sponsorship on their waistcoats these days...

  • A true legend and an example to all snooker players on how to play the game. I would rather see a 30 break from Alex than a century from Davis or Hendry or even Ronnie

  • Unforgettable

  • I never saw any player using so much swerve...

  • This was undoubtedly, the greatest break, by the greatest player in snooker history, don´t anyone argue, it just is.

  • The blue shot is amazing. How on earth did he screw the white back?

  • RedNeckRoger what youknow about snooker would fill a book, what you do not know about snooker would fill the British Library

  • @RedNeckRoger you´re a bigger cunt

  • @yatter1 i would slap a pool cue over you bitch and then take your mother upstairs for some anal

  • @RedNeckRoger you could try gaylord

  • @yatter1 cunt i would abuse your mother and then kill the rest of your tramp ass family

  • @RedNeckRoger you have a big mouth and a small dick

  • @yatter1 you cunt alex was shit and snooker wont miss this cunt one bit ...any more of you twats want some? i was a friend of raul moat and he was awesome.

  • @RedNeckRoger you´re an idiot that i don´t want to talk to, fuck off

  • @yatter1 hows my little prammy doing....

  • @RedNeckRoger you fucking dickwad

  • Another genuis gone. He did so much to vitalise my interest in Snooker. The true peoples champion. Sad the way it ended

  • @mamaowar amen brother

  • just heard the sad news, grew up watching snooker. Rest well.

  • Just learned about this champ in an Economist obit. Seems like a film-worthy character.

  • What a complete genius. Flawed but aren't we all to a certain extent?? This clear up is pure brilliance! RIP

  • alex and george best cut from the same cloth natural born talent rip alex and george

  • @jdig1984 great analogy, nice words

  • Although it's not pretty this is undoubtedly the greatest break of all time - just ask any true snooker player. It outstrips all the 147's. And the shot on the blue with three reds left is also the greatest individual shot of all time. Ronnie O' Sullivan can eat his heart out over this one.

RIP Alex. You had a great send off today.

  • i never liked him growing up because of things he said and did but you just have to be in awe of his natural talent, why are the greats so flawed?

  • As a child, my parents allowed me to stay up and watch the snooker on TV. One of the most fascinating players to watch was "Hurricane Higgins". I will cherish his memory together with the childhood thrill of being allowed to stay up late and watch him play. May he rest in peace, truly one of the best snooker players ever.

  • R,I,P Alex

  • Yip , This was incredible ,

  • Better than any 147break . have a good time playing Patsy Houlihan in heaven Alex

  • RIP

  • R.I.P. Alex Baby!

  • RIP

  • CLASS

  • You know what ? We all know he has passed away, but this break gets better and better when you really look at some of the amazing shots he played. An amazing, amazing break

  • a flawed genius.the fans loved him,legend

  • genius

  • @mclaughlinkevin absolute genuis - you kept us all watching !! God bless you, you made the game////

  • He was a troubled & complex person - along with addictions, probably not always the nicest person to be around. Only know the snooker player I watched for many years, so my abiding memory is unblemished. Saw him play Davis in an exhibition match at Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh in 82/83. He didn't sign autographs afterwards. Davis did, and he came across as an arrogant tosser - which he was back in those days. Alex's 135 in the final frame of the final to finish Reardon off was flawless.

  • He always was an amazing player.

  • an ignorant alcoholic cunt who wouldnt sign an autograph for his fans unless u gave him money. he was hated in belfast when he died because of his stinking arrogant attitude. hel not be missed here

  • @beechmountbhoy. Alex Higgins showed up my local on New Years Eve, The Greyhound in Handforth and was escorted out by the bar staff. A very good snooker friend of mine loved Alex Higgins until Alex told him to FUCK OFF!!! in front of all 15/20 of us!! Which was lucky for Alex cos GIZ at 6ft 2" 16st and rather drunk was ready to tear him up limb by limb.

R.I.P Alex but he could of been a bit more of a role model. Great player, shitty attitude, still.

    R.I.P

  • I bet you are at the bar with George Best having a pint of the Black stuff!!!! Excellent. Missed already.

  • @peter821028 prob at the bar with george best talking about all the women they bashed

  • @beechmountbhoy ...yeah you are probably right....a lot of bad there too.....But as you said RIP..Sad ending....

  • @beechmountbhoy wouldnt be a wee bit sectarian would you?

  • I forgot how great you were Alex........RIP

  • I'll never forget this break as long as I live. Alex wore his heart on his sleeve, combined with the animal-like way he prowled the table, and his facial expressions - he looked like a bag of nerves. No one else would have taken this break on, and if they had, would have stopped to take sips of water, to wipe their cue etc. Alex just potted them all 'off the lampshades', as he lost position all the time - throwing his body into every shot! He had 'bottle' in abundance. He was my hero. RIP Alex.

  • RIP Alex!

  • Agreed the blue ball 2:59 is the best shot under pressure ever. Alex your a legend. RIP.

  • Must be the most famous break in snooker history..That blue at 2:59 is still one of my favourite ever shots.

    RIP Alex.

  • Alex was right up my street, a maverick which made snooker popular like it has become.

Fire in his stomach, which any sport needs, in some of their players.

  • God rest his soul.

  • A true great player and legend . I would rather see a 30 break from alex than a century from Davis.

  • true ledgend

  • R.I.P Alex Higgins... youll be missed in the world of snooker !!

  • R.I.P. Alex

  • Legend.

  • R.I.P. TO A LEGEND!!!! SADLY MISSED :-(

  • What a break, great smile at 1.44

  • Thanks for the great memories Alex... bucket loads of charisma & box office appeal...he wore his heart on his sleeve and as with McEnroe in the same era you couIdn't take your eyes off him as his skill and apparently frail emotions would have you strangely glued to the TV set. (I definitely agree with kirky666's comments and also wish I had posted my comments 24 hours ago whilst he was still alive - RIP)

  • unorthodox cue action etc but effective very good player legend !!

  • GOD bless his soul :'(

  • R I P ALEX

  • Legends never really die. Thanks for everything Sir!

  • R I P ALEX MY IDOL...LUV YE XXX

  • RIP to one of Snokkers greats

  • night night hurricane, there will never be another player like you, ever,iv watched this break so many times, all the back slapping players now would not be where they are now without the hurricane

  • RIP

  • The greatest break ever without a doubt. Very sad to hear the news this morning, but for anyone in their forties or older this is how we will remember him.

  • Dennis Taylor said that the shot he played on the blue would almost never work even if you tried it a 100 times in practice...thank you for the memories Alex....

  • I'd forgotten how horrible his technique was - stands up on every shot almost before he's finished striking the cue ball!

But what a player! The snooker world's a poorer place without him.

  • simply superb R.I.P fella

  • rip alex you were great

  • Rest In Peace. Cheers.

  • RIP Alex Higgins, the powers that be should hang their heads in shame, the ban was deserved but taking away all your ranking points was snooker commiting suicide, LEGEND SORLEY MISSED

  • Irreplaceable genius. He did not always grace himself with dignity but if he chose to he could beat anyone by playing a game that was miles ahead of everyone else. Peace at last.

    Thanks for the memories

  • Rest in peace Alex.

This is the greatest break I have ever seen.

  • RIP Alex

  • Jeeezz, that red in the middle bag was acute! Spencer said he pushed it over the pocket? hardly lol

  • A LEGEND. END OF.

  • The fact this was under such pressure makes this the greatest break thru all times.

  • Comment removed

  • still amazing to watch this,on the brink of going out he pulls it off against jimmy.fitting he won the title that year

  • He was wankered!

  • great break, no doubt about that, but his positional play is rubbish-the amount of times he runs out of position and has to make a great pot to keep it going. Still i suppose it was a totally different type of game in those days and perfect positional play every time wasnt really expected like it is today

  • @bigpmc eh? hmmm

  • @cartehenia Well surely you cant deny his positional play at the start of the break is woeful, I mean obviously the circumstances can never be replicated by me but im a reasonable amateur player and even i would be disappointed if i played shots like those at the start of the break. The position i mean, not the pots themselves, they are fantastic, but he really shouldn't have had to make such amazing pots. The best snooker players in the world should always leave themselves simple pots

  • @bigpmc -'The best snooker players in the world should always leave themselves simple pots' - If only it was that easy. Armchair snooker is a game we can all excel at. You obviously have no clue as to why Alex played the way he did. He played inspirationally, he played to entertain. He simply wasn't orthodox. He wasn't remotely interested in playing correct positional shots. If he had been, he would actually have been a much lesser and vastly different kind of player.

  • @prescient8 I never said it was easy, i just said that is how the game should be played. For example Ronnies 147 in 5 odd minutes-there is no point in that break where he plays a particularly difficult shot. Why is that? because his positional play was so good that he didnt have to. Are you seriously suggesting that alex left himself difficult shots on purpose just to entertain? That would be an incredibly stupid thing to do. The goal of any sportsman should be to win, not to entertain

  • i have watched this break dozens of times, and over the years we have seen some truly remarkable snooker this break by alex is sy=till the BEST ever ever has any one seen alex at the crucible this year it brings tears to your eyes

  • above all breaks be it 147 or whatever. this is the best clearance Ive ever seen..i mean hardly in position once...genius

  • OMG, absolutely zero cue ball control, but what a great shot maker, and I agree with international, without Higgins i don't believe there could be O'Sullivans, and what I will say is they have a great sense of theatre and drama, but Ronnie is definately the more talented of the 2, but where I give Alex an edge, is he believes he can pot every ball no matter where the white ball ends up, totally fearless, and very little whinging ever, about kicks.

  • Snooker was probably not as technical as it is today back then and I agree that the modern players (Davis, Hendry, O'Sullivan, Williams, etc) have taken the game to a new level. Jimmy White hasn't been able to compete for years has he? But back then the game had CHARACTERS! Big Bill Werbeniuk, Higgins, Ray Reardon, etc.
