I made this high altitude video and a long distance (0.7 mile) video because someone asked me to. Like you they couldn't find videos like this so I made them a couple. I haven't seen anyone else do this either. People are too afraid to crash I guess. Even on the multicopter forums no one has claimed to do this. If you find any others who have done this let me know :-)
Finally someone that flies HIGH with a *copter and have a camera mounted. I've been looking for more of action flying videos, that would be cool. Do you know of any? Thanks for posting the video! :-)
LOL. Glad to know theres another Multicopter pilot out there. I'm flown many other variations of multicopters by now. If you need any help with it just post me a message or ask Amain hobbies about me.
So I'm browsing youtube videos trying to get some ideas for my own arducopter build, and I come across this video and go, "Wow, that background looks familiar... that lake is kinda shaped like Cal Park... and that road kinda reminds me of highway 32... wait... that is Highway 32, and that's Marsh Junior!" What a small world!
You need something like a Hoverfly Pro to control the ship and the GPS board to go with it. Currently the hoverfly GPS will give you position hold and return to home capabilities with more to come. If you want to spend a bit more money for a system that has every feature, get a Mikrocopter.
Great video. I´m new to the world of Quadrocopters and I´m really enjoying it. I want to cross over to FPV for video fotography. I read alot about alt hold or position hold. Can you explain the set up for it? I really want my quadro to lock on a position while I´m recording and taking snap shots. I just don´t know what I need to buy. Thanks in advance.
Hi could you describe your anntenna set up please? Also, is that a standard TX/RX your are using or have you used a long range setup? Great vid, cheers
@BustinLoose47 It is a 300mw 1.3ghz video tx along with 72mhz pcm RC link. The video antenna receiver is two patch antennas with diversity receiver. The video has a range of at least 4 miles. The RC link goes about 3 miles.
The Gopro is just a camera. The OSD data is an overlay that comes from the flight control system. Since then I have switched to a hexacopter . It has the same equipment but 6 motors instead of 4. The max payload I've carried is 1.5 pounds although I'm sure it can carry more. Thanks! I figured when it reached 500 feet I might as well keep climbing. A fall from 500ft would be no different than a fall from 1000ft. (destroyed!)
Does the GPPRO HD version come with OSD data... or is that something you can add to the modifications? What is maximum payload it can carry. This is an awesome video bro! Nice flying!
I try to take precautions when flying higher. I'm a full scale pilot and Certified Flight Instructor so I stay aware of where air traffic generally is compared to my flying site. I also use a handheld VHF radio to monitor traffic. If I hear any traffic over the radio or I can hear their plane from the ground I will start looking for them to stay out of their way.
I'm waiting for the first video of an airplane smashing into one of these things..not that I would want that to happen to your setup but it's gonna happen to someones.. lol!! very awesome though.. I'm looking into this hobby now that I realized that FPV is good enough. Watch.. when I finally do this.. the airplane will smash into mine...O_o
wow i really like it what kinda of quadcopter are you useing does it come with the alt hold with it? i think it will be cool to try to take it up to 3,000ft just for a good area veiw:)so did you set it up to go to 1,000 ft or where you flying fpv?

Its a 170 Degree field of view (like a fish eye lens).

It was calm down low but seemed windy at 1000 feet. The altitude hold was ON and you could hear the motors fighting to maintain altitude.
mspencer30 5 months ago
That's BRILLIANT!!!
Love how you got yourself in the shot at the end :D
Was it a still day or did you need to fight the wind?

Nice video and thanks for sharing your setup. I am beginning to use FPV and it is very funny.

Well at 400 feet it will probably be as destroyed as if it were at 1000 feet.

I love a good dive bomb from high altitude! I've only gone up around 400ft myself, I get a bit worried up high like that. :-)

@BustinLoose47 is this something that lets you watch a live feed of the video without looking at the plane or heli ?
