I initially supported Afghanistan campaign, because there seemed to be more legitimacy for us being there than the disastrous and wrongheaded invasion of Iraq. Now it is clear to me that this is a war that cannot be won. We completely ignored the failures of the previous occupants, the British and the Russians. The Afghans will always be Afghans. Yes, they will likely gloat and brag about their "victory"(a Pyrric victory), but that's how it goes. Let's stop being the world's police.
This is just another money making machine for the rich elite. Just like Vietnam was. Americans went in there too under the same guise as this war in Afghanistan. Has any body other than myself stopped to realize that the Americans have been "fighting" this so called war for twice as long as they fought in World War ll ???? WTF????
The allies could take out Germany, Italy, Japan just to name a few in WWll. But they cannot capture a few dudes living in caves??? Whats wrong with this picture???
Coming from a kid who's probably never even seen battle, I'm sure that hurts his feelings. Go back to rooting for the troops with you're empty car magnets and flags made in china, you fucking moron.
haha what u talking about? im dutch from holland and we have also alot of troops there working with civil specialists we send to rebuid afghanistans! whats wrong with u? in my opinion u go to wars as a nation not as a few individuals wich can decide when they give up when they like! a great 11 century persian poet said it best: when u go to battlefield u take the risk of losing 1 life(yours) when u turn ur back to the battlfield during battle u risk losing an army! u turn ur back to commerades!!
No it wasn't, it was to do counter-terrorism and bring a small gang of independant people {not backed by any government} to justice.
What we have now is mission creep. We are nation building, and only because of the nightmare we created out of Afgahnistan, not that it was that nice before.
We fucked it up, as we've been seeming to do with a lot of things these days. We, meaning our government, not you and I personally.
yeah what ur saying is 9/11 never happend and taliban and alqaida are good guys? u liberals are such ignorant idiots! these muslims wanna rule the world and they see u americans as pigs and will totally fuck u and ur wifes when they win this war! then u have to have wear a 2meter beard and ur women has to walk in burka behind u! democrats thing muslim terrorist hare full blooded tolorant democrats where u can sit and talk with!!! what a norrow minded ignorant idiot u are!! bin laden loves u!
Matthew thank you for resigning & speaking out against this immoral and illegal occupation. We also need to bring the troops home. I protested the war 2 times during the bushy yrs. there were around 100 people with me both times. I protested last month and there were only around 10! This is why I'm an Independent: there is so much HYPOCRICY in political parties.
Been reading the Protocols of the Elders of Zion lately? lol. Keep preaching that shit as if it's any kind of independent thought or critical thinking. You lemming.
Urban elites who want to have a central government at war with tribes of uneducated, barbaric religious fundamentalists that live in the rural mountaness badlands.
Hoh analyzes the situation clearly. It makes no sense to add more troops in Afghanistan unless it is part of a plan to leave less disasterously. Whether we stay or go, it is going to be very, very ugly and those of us who say "Get out now!" will be attacked by those whose only strategy is to accuse those who face reality of "cutting and running". My country scares me righ now, unless Obama gets us out and the majority of Americans recognize that the disaster is caused we diverted to Iraq!
We are only there to perpetuate the profits of the military-industrial complex. Halliburton, for example, was the #1 largest contractor to the U.S. Army; they made bank destroying and rebuilding Iraq. Anyone remember the billions of dollars that went "missing" under Halliburton's contracts? I do.
Enough's enough. I don't want America to go into foreign countries and kill KIDS for no reason. No big wars without BIG evidence that it's the only solution.
I do. I remember the billions of dollars missing. I don't know why the real progressive dems don't bring that shit up.
To me, that's a bigger story than Acorn. I can't believe anyone even talks about something like Acorn when there is such massive corruption on this level regarding the military industrial complex. Thats where the money is going, the real money.
Now u know the reason. Military industrial stealing is the elite class stealing money... and Acorn even though 90% of the organization is run by white people makes people think minority thief. That why you don't see anyone making any noise
@EcrossH i love and all my repect. I hate usa, and i would invade it and change it, if you didnt change your regime. AND after the war, i would make sure that usa never had an army again.
US forces have occupied Native*American lands for 213 years, many of those natives would certainly consider taking back their, Home*Land if the opportunity arose...
thus the occupier must continue to oppress The*People... FOREVER... as those conquered have the right to remember the history of their treatment... and seek justice for the crimes committed against them.
That was IRAQ, not Afghanistan. We went into Afghanistan because it is in our strategic (economic) interest to have a presence there, AND because it lacks a central government while on the border of a corrupt state WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS. Yes, the military industrial complex fuels these decisions, but ultimately the decision to go or stay will be based on the potential for security there.
The Soviets made the same "mistake".... And the Soviets were there to suppress Islamic Fundamentalism.

What do we do about Afghanistan? Let it turn back into a 12th century paradise?
What happens when we have to end up in that country again?
This claim that AQ will not simply go back is as believable as Iraq having WMDs.

Your missing the point. Why did we start this war? it wasn't to build a nation, I can tell you that.

Search for Matthew Hoh's resignation letter online, it's very well written and well worth the (short) read.
