  • このころのベイシーオーケストラが一番いいよ。エディ・ロックジョーと比較できないが、エリック・ディクソンも素晴らしい。ソニー・ペインは歴代のドラマーの中で一番バンドにマッチしている。

  • who was the bassist in this performance

  • This is a great song!! I love the solos!

  • that's some great drumming!

  • In reality, Neal Hefti was the one that wrote and arranged "Corner Pocket." However, Freddie Greene. was the GREATEST rythmn guitarest, EVER!!!

  • This song truly is the embodiment of swing (my band teacher uses this video as an example every single year without fail), and to think it came from a guitarist. I love that melody!

  • @PhiltrumOz what you're talking about is referred to as vocalese. Lambert Hendricks and Ross are for sure the biggest names in this style of singing

  • What are the chord changes in the A section?

  • 3:24 : Yes.

  • sonny payne

  • What are all these people doing? Shouldn't they be at home watching tevision and texting their friends?!

  • @PhiltrumOz Try - Lambert Hendricks and Ross

  • There is so much to learn from the drums on this tune. Sonny Payne is a gold mine.

  • @Jesseqisbetterthanyo Freddie Greene, was one of the GREATEST rythmn guitarists of all time. In addition, one of the sweetest, warmest, compassionate persons that I have ever met. The same applies to "Count:!!!!!!!!

  • Freddie Green was known as "Father Time".

  • Who did the tenor solo?

  • @radicalgnostic9 yeah cause holy shit that was great!

  • @radicalgnostic9 Eric Dixon did the tenor solo...he passed away around 1991.....

  • Oh my goodness!!! This has just left me with goosebumps. And Sonny Payne! WHAAAAT?!?! That beat four at 3:26. I can't stop watching this clip!

  • マスター!ヤッパリこれだネ、ベイシー“コーナーポケット”偉大なりフレディーグリーン! #jazzm

  • is freddie green electric or not in this one? I can't tell. If he isn't though holy crap

  • is that Sal Nistico in the sax section?

  • @jakeready64 Jake, this is late coming to you...Yes that is Sal Nistico playing Tenor Sax . Chuck from Cleveland, Ohio 4-9-2011 He was one of my favorites. A monster player!

  • SWINGIN HARD THE BEST SWINGIN BAND EVER

  • Sonny's ride cymbal seems to be at a kind of unusual height, higher than it needs to be. Same basic setup as Buddy Rich but his was always quite abit lower so he didn't have to reach. Of course Sonny was a great, great drummer and everyone has thier own style and likes.

  • @brian740 I heard the beginning of "Shoe Shine Boy" at the end of this video. Would you (or anyone) happen to have a clip of that as well?

  • Sonny Payne is the ultimate big band drummer. He just swings like no other!

  • man! that shout chorus is so kickin'! Sonny Payne lays it down, and the band has no slouches! they really swing hard!

  • 3:26- The stick toss! Sonny Payne, what a monster drummer!

  • love sonny payne, illest jazz drummer ever (most eneregetic at the least)

  • U r right. for jazz musicians, hard to stay together for a long time. Someone does: Oregon Band members Paul MCCandless, Ralph Towner, Glen Moore celebrate 40 years together in 2010! Paolo Fresu Quintet started 25 years ago at still is formed by the same musicians (Tino Tracanna, sax, etc). Longevity is very important it a jazz band to grow together. But you know, evryone wants to be a leader, especially in Italy: Oscar Wilde (I guess) said: "One italian is a good guy! Two italians are a riot!"

  • Sunny The King of "Payne & Swing , Groove ,Time , Picket Wilson's Pocket and Funk : forget 'bout the videos Today, he nailed Them.. Thats, if you Have Ears////

  • I wonder how many people dancing that night knew what a great band and song they were dancing to, and history now recorded on YT

  • loved the drummer guy! 3:24

  • lol... playing this tune is jazz class..... this version too....

  • this ararangment is one of the best the count basie band has composed basie knows what hes doin

  • Freddie Green is the greatest guitarist never to take a single note run solo.......what a master at chording the pocket he was...........

Ask Larry Carlton and Robben Ford about his contribution to playing.......

  • This is an excelent example of Basie classic. Freddie Green's guitar line is quite audible so one can easily study his unique playing.

  • @jmtoor I had this as my rigtone on my cell. got alot of smiles from the ladies.

  • ha! no dumbasses could NOT like this video.

  • Sonny Payne, the ultimate "time keeper" . One of the greatest drummers of all time.

    Thank you for this clip.

  • Who is da tenor player?

  • @decus69 It's Eric Dixon, Marshall Royal played alto sax !

  • first tenor soloist??

  • I believe it''s Marshall Royal.

  • I tried to learn how to play this chart but am completely snookered!

  • The hardest swinging big band of all-time. I love Benny Goodman, Jimmie Lunceford, and Duke Ellington, but nobody swung harder than Count Basie, Although Duke's band was definitely the most versatile.

  • I'd give anything to have have been in this band playing any instrument. What a glorious sound! Thanks!

  • i wana marry sonny payne.... no, i dont care that im a dude

  • I just picked up a big band gig and this is one of the tunes the leader called out. It will be my tribute to him minus the stick flip which was just awesome !!

  • Sonny is right in the pocket.

  • Freddie Green had been with Basie since the mid 30's. You can't get a couple of artists to stay together a few months nowdays.

  • @colsnake331 Who is da tenor player?

  • @colsnake331

not from what I've seen ...

  • @colsnake331 what r u talkin bout u is gay jk yeah u right they always leave

  • :"Sonny's Pocket"- He never overdid it and always played to the piece perfect .Wish we could have seen him/ THANKS FOR this.....

  • Another great Basie song. Good work Brian 740.
