You pay for xbox live because of the constant updates, less cheaters, and less little kids. And you don't have to use AA batteries for the xbox controller, you can buy the actual battery pack, which gives 2 batteries so you can play with one and charge the other and also the batteries last about 48 hours of gameplay. I have both the xbox 360 and PS3 and my xbox is better. The ps3 controller and headset batteries die rather quickly so your constantly plugging it up.
I have a 360 too, and to be honest, the main reason I don't play online on the 360 is cause of the people. Honestly, they pretty much kill the game for me. I haven't heard that many "special people" on the PS3. Could be chance, but to me it seems all the "kids" are on the 360.

Even when i got the 80gb core model ( it doesnt come with chrome trim or 4 usbs ports or even the memery card slots Its basicaly a 40gb PS3.) i new it wasnt the best model but im in love with my PS3. 80GB - new lower power consuming processor, no backwards compatible, no memory card readers, 2 usb ports
80GB metal gear bundle - older, higher power consuming processor, backwards compatible, memory card reader, more USB ports. (not sure if they still make them - haven't seen the bundle for a while)
and the old 80 gig, the 20 gig, and the 60 gig can play ps2 games, with the 80 gig having some exceptions because it only has software to play them, not hardware.
and as for saving the games
you cannot just put the game in the ps3 and save it all to your harddrive
as for saving DATA like to a memory card, i'm not sure if you can save the data to your harddrive

old 80; 2nd best; only difference from 80 was emulation back. comp.

yes; the OLD MODEL is MUCH better than the new
and the old 80 gig, the 20 gig, and the 60 gig can play ps2 games, with the 80 gig having some exceptions because it only has software to play them, not hardware.
and as for saving the games
you cannot just put the game in the ps3 and save it all to your harddrive
as for saving DATA like to a memory card, i'm not sure if you can save the data to your harddrive

im a sony fanboy, and i had been looking at getting one for a while. but in the end, i didnt have the time to get the money, and wont for a while. plus, i dont have time to play it
but the console does come with a usb for your controller, and i believe it comes with a ethernet cable. how long and good? i dont know

First off, it still works..perfectly!
secondly, I seriously and in all honesty haven't had a single problem with the PS3 AT ALL!!
(no red lights of death lol)
So, no cons..
But Im starting to realize that 80GB is ALOT of freakin memory!!
but yeah...thats not really a con is it...

Oh,and A WORD OF ADVICE:
Dont BUY any single player games, except for FIRST PARTY TITLES(Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank) cause you'll finish the game and thats it, there goes 60 bucks. I recommend you BUY online games,(and online play by the way, it freakin amazing. Ive played on XBOX Live at friends' houses and I find the PSNetwork is WAAAAY better and easier to use) and RENT single player games.

if u dont have any ps2 games dont get the freaking 80 gb omg, its a 100 dollars more for just the backward compatiblity and 2 more usb ports which u dont really need except for charging controller and using mic, so almost all the time ur gonna atleast use only 1 usb port so wats the point, 40 gb better i learned tht earlier 40 gb is enough memory, i wish i sold back my 80 gb and bought 40
