I grew up in Overland Park in the late 60's . I look back to KC with very warm memories. I look back now and see it was a good sized city with absolutely nothing going on. The new KCPL district looks wonderful and very much needed to wake up it's sleep. Although , after moving to Boston I could never live back there again ... the buckle of the bible belt is too stifling
I am from California and will be visiting Kansas City in early March. I will be staying in the Overland Park area. What are some cool and unique things to do in KC? Bars? Clubs? Juice Bars? Nightlife? Shopping? Also, I hear that it's pretty rough and "ghetto" there. Where are some areas that I should avoid?
@iamtheGERk I am from the area and Overland Park is very safe. A very nice middle class area. If you want to go to unique places there is westport, the plaza, crown center, downtown, and city market. All are great. There you will find plenty of night life especially downtown and westport. Food wise go get bbq at either gates, arthur bryants or oklahoma joes. You cannot go wrong with any of them. Also, you must go to the WW1 museum and the Nelson Atkins art museum. Have a great trip!
@iamtheGERk Kansas City, Kansas has the beautiful LEGENDS Mall; LEGENDS has alot of restaurants (Dave and Busters, Longhorn Steakhouse, Outback Steakhouse, T-REX Cafe, Chiusano's Brick Oven Pizzeria, some fast food restaurants, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and alot more) a movie theater with 14 screens, and outlet stores. Kansas City, Missouri has entertainment centers. The Sprint Center has concerts and sporting events. In March the Sprint Center is hosting the Big 12 Tournament....continued
@PhillipRansburg well all cities on earth have some bad looking spots, you can say that about any city. As a whole though, Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri have great attractions, an attractive skyline, and it's all around Kansas City is just a fun place to be.

As usual the mexicans ruined Kansas City. Minnesota Ave looks like a mexican ghetto.State ave is a mexican ghetto. I can't even go to my old neighborhood because if these south of the border rats and their ghetto third world life style.(Spit) at mexicans.Another Great town in America ruined by mexicans.
Culturally rich-metropolis my butt, Kansas city a cow town with nothing to do. I lived here for 27 years and there is nothing to
Do. the plaza? Small no stores, sports? ALL of your teams suck what else is there to do that is unique to Kansas city. There is more culture in a refugee camp in sudan. what is there to do in Kansas city???
@MrChucknorris1228 You were in KC for 27 years and couldn't find anything to do? Ever stop to think the problem may be you? I dread to think what your idea of culture might be.You probably didn't enjoy your time here because I suspect when people saw you coming they went the way.
I grew up in KC. I've also lived in StL and New Orleans. I also used to travel for a living and have been just about everywhere. Kc definitely IS spread out. One lap around I-435 is 83 miles, and the metro area goes well outside of it... just to get an idea how big of a land mass it really is, so it's hardly a little cowtown like the ignorant morons from the East assume it is. It is actually one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to.
@MrChucknorris1228 Spoken like a true moron who has never been there. What is your contribution to the world? A stupid video about a home made flame thrower.... LMAO!!! Inbreeding leads to people who make home made flame throwers. Were your parents still brother and sister after the divorce?
@kctransplant70 He doesn't realize that Oklahoma and Texas are the laughing stocks of the United States... probably a good chance generations of inbreeding of his family have kept them there due to poor education and no money because his sister and grandfather were too busy shagging making more brothers and sisters. Last time I checked Kansas is leader in transportation, highways, drivers, top 15 in math, science, and english, the capital of aviation, and is lush and green.
@kctransplant70 Out of the 38 continental states I've been to the only places that keep up in fun and what I'd consider as a great place to live is L.A., San Diego, and Kansas City. I've also been to Cuba, the UK, Spain, Bahrain, and Italy... to be honest none of them stack up. KC is and will always be the premier spot to grow up and live. I didn't become angry, racist, and tempermental until AFTER I left Kansas...
@GDF333 Interesting I may be moving to Kansas City for a while and I have traveled all over the world so you comment is comforting. Thanks and please share any other personal experiences you have about the city... fellow travelling friends THANKS
@lalatutu123 All cities have pros and cons, as you know being a well seasoned traveler. The great thing about Kansas City, and Kansas in general, is that we set everything up in a well structured grid so traffic is always flowing and everything is put in place so that you can find everything you set out for. The city is incredibly clean and always feels alive. The roads and buildings aren't up to par, they exceed them. Manners are always used and you can never find yourself bored.
@lalatutu123 The shopping centers located on all sides of the cities have new and interesting things to offer, the civic center is new and you can always find expos and meets every single week! Missouri has some of THE least alcohol laws ever in that they aren't all about deleting its existence. You can always find a bar that you feel at home to.
@lalatutu123 If you've ever been through San Antonio or Oklahoma City and their "Riverwalk/Bricktown"... times them by 1000 in fun and things to do and there's KC downtown alone. That's not all, you also have Town Center, Crown Center, Zona Rosa, Great Plains Mall, Brookside, Independence Center, Legends, Oak Park Mall, and the coveted Country Club Plaza... You have to travel it to know it, it's by far the greatest city the US has to offer.
@lalatutu123 Like I had said earlier, I've been all over the US. The only cities that REALLY do compare from my experience in determining everything together from fun, family, geography, and driving it'd have to be the metropolitan areas of Orlando, Philadelphia, Denver, San Diego, and L.A.
This isn't a competition between St. Louis and Kansas City. Nor is it about race. Just admire the video for what it is and don't turn it into anything else.
St Louis is horrible and dirty its not by far like Kansas City. Kansas City is very trendy and affluent, Im from Texas and we dont have near ..the big city sophistication that KC has. Dallas is like a Big suburb and Downtown Houston is a ghostown at night with rampant crime. San Antonio is like miami everyone speaks spanglish, Austin has NO charm at all, just a bunch of outside roadhouses and bars.

I love KC and am proud to live here. The culture is astounding and the people are always nice. The low price of living is great. I have only been around here for 13 years, but the changes are astounding and almost all positive. We still have a ways to go with the sewers which require a massive overhaul, and the need for some sort of light rail system, but those needs are becoming ever more noticed and hopefully will be addressed. Once again I am proud to live here.

Seriously though, I like KC very much, but we do have a bit of an inferiority complex, and it does filter through in this piece. But no matter, it looks good, and is actually pretty accurate.
@SamJendo1 Have lived here for 17 years and have never felt nor sensed an inferiority complex. Upon moving here I was immediately made aware of the history here, and found it to be a place with a lot of character, and extremely kind people.
@rdeora What? Even 30 years ago it had a pop of about 400thousand and 1.5 million for the metro area. Were you even actually in the city limits? And did you get to the center of town and see anything? Rhetorical questions...
